Deerfield Beach is a charming coastal city in the south of Florida with a population of only 86,339. Older adults aged 65+ represent 22.7% of the city’s residents, which is a greater percentage than the national average of 16.8%. Housing in the area is significantly more affordable than in other parts of Florida. Seniors also pay less for their health care and can choose between several hospitals, including Broward Health North. Seniors can expect to pay an estimated $4,195 for home care in the city and $4,385 for home health care. The two types of care offer similar personal care services, but home health care providers are also trained to medically monitor people.
Below we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Deerfield Beach area – complete with services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled resources to help seniors and their families to access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

We hired Superb Care for my father-in-law. They are really good. I cannot complain. They set me up with the company that enables us to pay for the in-home health care. The actual healthcare worker is phenomenal. She is awesome. It just has been a really good experience all the way around. She does some light housekeeping. She helps in getting my father-in-law started in the morning. When we originally hired them, my father-in-law could not walk. He is in a wheelchair, and he has to have help in getting into the shower, get dressed, and all that. He recently gained some of his strength, and he is walking with a walker now. He is now getting breathing treatments and help in getting him started.

After that we decided to try a live-in. It was a huge decision to change what was working so well but I was exhausted beyond description. It’s been 6 months now and our live-in is an angel and my mom adores her. Julian and Ava both listened to my concerns and fears and they chose so well. They know that you might have to keep trying new caregivers to find the perfect match and are willing to keep doing that until you are very happy with your person. I am very thankful for this agency one of the best in town.

We chose Caregivers of America to help us care for my mom when she was diagnosed with Cancer. The office staff was extremely understanding and compassionate every time we called with questions. A girl originally from the Bronx, Mom was very outspoken, to say the least. Well, the office staff chose a wonderful, patient aide who mom eventually allowed to help her bathe and get dressed, and kept her close to grab her when she got wobbly. She also took her to and from the Cancer treatment center which she needed because she would get sick on the bus they provided. The aide was punctual and stayed in touch with us. Our experience with Caregivers of America was a blessing in such unfortunate circumstances.

It’s not like it’s a job that they show up at. I think that makes a big difference. My mom has been with them for two and a half years. I am happy and satisfied with their service for my mom. She has 5 caregivers and they provide 24-hour care. They do absolutely everything for her. She’s in the last stages of Alzheimer’s. She can’t move basically. They have to move her every 2 hours. She was actually walking when she first entered the program and now she’s come to the point where she can hardly move.

The caregivers are excellent. They care about my mom personally and have established a relationship with her. They go above and beyond because they care about her personally.

If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
- Long-Term Care Insurance: Long-Term Care Insurance covers expenses related to senior care, including in-home care. Depending on the policy type, beneficiaries may receive a cash payment to use towards long-term care or reimbursement for qualifying long-term care expenses. Note that there are limitations- typically a maximum benefit of $150 per day- and exact coverage terms vary depending on the exact policy, so always check the details.
- Medicare: Medicare does not cover in-home care because it is classified as custodial, or non-medical, care. However, some Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans, which offer expanded benefits, may cover in-home custodial care.
- Medicaid: Medicaid coverage of in-home care varies between different states because it is not a federally mandated benefit. Currently, all states cover some in-home care either through their standard Medicaid or a waiver program. The specific coverage rules are set individually by each state.
- Veterans’ Benefits: The Aid and Attendance benefit is a monthly cash payment that beneficiaries can use to pay for senior care, including in-home care services. To qualify for A&A, Veterans must already receive the VA pension and meet several additional requirements, including needing assistance with the activities of daily living.Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs to learn more.
- Reverse Mortgages: Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECMs) are federally insured loans that are available to homeowners age 62 and over. Reverse mortgages allow you to access a portion of your home’s equity in cash, tax free. Many seniors use reverse mortgages to finance their care expenses, including in-home care. Note that although there are no monthly payments due on reverse mortgage loans, borrowers do have to repay the loan once the last surviving homeowner passes away, moves, or sells the home.

What is the difference between in-home care and home health care?
In-home care refers to non-medical personal care services. Seniors who receive home care may need companionship and help with running errands such as grocery shopping. A home caregiver can provide assistance with daily living tasks such as dressing, bathing and eating. Home health care providers offer the same non-medical care services with added nursing care. An in-home health caregiver may visit seniors who need assistance with managing a chronic illness, their medical equipment and their medication.
What is a home care assessment?
A home care assessment is conducted between the home care agency and the senior client. The goal of the assessment is for seniors to discuss their care needs and expectations of service. After the initial assessment, the agency drafts a care plan tailored to the client, which can be revisited regularly.
Can you write off in-home elderly care?
While in most cases, only in-home medical services are tax-deductible, there are some instances where non-medical care can also be written off. For in-home care to be deductible, the client needs to either be severely impaired cognitively or need significant assistance with at least two daily living activities for more than 90 days.
