This is my 3rd nursing home this year. They all suffer from understaffing, altho Crossroads seems to have the most staff. I like my room. It is not huge (approximately 15x10). I share a toilet with the person next to me but there is a bathroom right across the hall. There is a sink in each room to help with the twice a week showering. There are things to do here with a small group of active residents. The staff is really nice as are the therapists. The bad issue is the food. It is terrible (0 star). Low quality of food that is cooked poorly. The biggest complaint is that the food is overcooked on the outside and still undercooked on the inside. To order, they send around a form the day before, and you pick what you want. Far too often, this form is ignored. Luckily, across the hall is a fridge we can use and a microwave so I have a few days food stored and that's what I eat.

I would never have a family member, relative or friend go to Crossroads Care Center in Sun Prairie. There were 3 staff members that seemed to care about the patients and their needs. Usually I would ask a question and the response would be “Oh she’s not my patient -you’ll have to ask her Nurse” ( who changed daily so you never knew who was taking care of her). My mother was there to receive physical, occupational and speech therapy. No one could ever tell me when she was receiving these therapy’s but assured me she had them. I received a call approximately 5 days after her being admitted in this supposed Skilled Nursing facility that she would be released in two weeks. My response was “ she will be better by then?” Well that’s how long her insurance will pay. I talked with the Social Worker about her discharge. She stated they would make the arrangements and let me know when she would be picked up. I hadn’t received a call on the date she was being released so I just went over there and to my surprise…she had been picked up over 2 hours earlier. The main arrogant Nurse said I was called and told when she was being discharged. I told him I had not. He stopped another nurse and asked her if I had been called and at that point I asked if he was calling me a liar. Think about it…why would I drive there if I knew she was released?? There were no discharge papers given to the facility she was returned to. This is the worse place ever!!
Bad experience there

This has to be the worst facility of it's kind in Dane county. The food comes cold and bad the rooms are not air conditioned. The head nurse is rude and sarcastic. They don't have phones in the rooms which are so small there is no place to sit down and no chair available when you go to visit her. My wife was there two weeks for physical therapy which she never got, she got bed sores When I realized if she was to ever to get better I need to move her to another facility they did every thing they could to prevent me from moving her. I would never let a loved one go there.

First of all this website is extremely misleading. The facility is nothing like--is not pretty at all. This makes it looks like some nice luxurious hotel and its far from that no air conditioning in the rooms, food is sub-par. The CNAs for the most part seem very caring but also seem to be overworked. But director of nursing is pretty cold and don't know why she's there. She may "know" nursing but the one she fails in is kindness and bedside manner. She talks down to the residents. The administrator seems to be very young and doesn't seem to have enough life experience to be running a facility. She's also pretty cold an I just would not want anybody I love to be in a facility where the top 2 management people are so cold! The only staff that I had a positive experience with and I cannot remember her name, was the admissions person and she was just so nice and so warm. She seemed to truly care about the residents and my aunt who was there had nothing but wonderful things to say about her. I also met her in talked with her a few times and got that same warm feeling and could sense that she was misplaced in her role. She seems to be the type of person who would be better off working for a company who truly has a mission and wants to take care of its people its patience and not just in it for the greed. I also had a good experience as did my aunt with a social worker and I think her name was Kelly. This facility is owned by a for profit and it shows because it's all about the money. They specialize in taking care of people who no one else will take so if that helps you at all. If your loved one you are told that you are being sent here please try to go somewhere else ask the hospital to try to get you somewhere else and this should be a last resort.

Crossroads of Sun Prairie is an excellent community. They're a little understaffed, but the care is good and the food is good. They have activities available for the residents. They have a library and some other amenities. I have a 1-bedroom which isn't really spacious, it has a bed, a dresser, and there's two people in it. They take very good care of the facilities by keeping the floors and areas clean and the fire exits open.
