Nashville, Tennessee, has around 600,000 residents, with over 11% of them being 65 or older. With so many residents already in their golden years and more to follow, the Metro Parks Senior Recreation Program focuses on their well being with services and programs, including dancing, visual arts, crafts and other recreational activities at three senior sites and nine satellite programs. Metro Parks and the Department of Social Services also give direct assistance to families and seniors who are elderly or disabled. The Senior Dining program offers lunches on weekdays, and Metro Transit Authority’s Access Ride provides seniors with transportation to meal sites, medical appointments and entertainment, such as the never-ending live music on the downtown strip.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
