I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad was taken to Vanco in Goodletsville TN on May 19,2023 from the hospital for rehab. They took him to a room and the smell was atrocious and it was coming mainly from the bathroom. It was an overwhelming urine smell that was very disgusting. The director over housekeeping came and told me that it had been cleaned that day. I told them in no way was this bathroom cleaned today. I asked them to get me some cleaning supplies and I would clean it. Mean time my Dad asked for a urinal from a staff person which was a nurse. It took them 40 minutes to bring the urinal. I decided at that point in no way we're we signing papers to have him stay there. I located a company that would come get my father and transfer him to our house until we could arrange for another place in the next few days. The company needed the facility to contact them so they could come and get them. The women that held the papers for us to sign to keep my dad there told me they would not call to arrange the transport that my father and that he would just have to stay. I looked at her and told her no that he didn't have to stay in these horrible conditions. She told me you need to sign these papers. We got my dad's wheelchair and walked out of Vanco. My dad is doing fine now and other arrangements are being made for his care. Please don't send any one you love to this place. It is a dirty and nasty place. The only bathrooms that smell and look clean are the ones visitors use.

The vanco team was very helpful and took great care of my father in law. They supported the family through all of our questions and gave us great insight.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

If you love or even like your loved one please do not put them in this place. Our father was sick he went to the hospital on February 3, 2020. He had an infection in his hand that was clearing up really well. He was weak in his legs so when he was released from the hospital he went to this facility for rehab. He was there for a few days things seemed to be going alright. My sister and I took turns being there everyday for him. The only time his restroom got cleaned was when my sister went and hunted someone down to clean it. Our Dad was getting ready for physical therapy so my sister changed his shorts and put clean ones on him. He decided he needed to use the restroom before he went to therapy. My sister was walking a long behind him but he was doing very well getting there on his own. He went in the bathroom and all of a sudden my sister heard this commotion in there. She opened the door and Daddy was laying in the floor. He slid in urine that was on the floor that had not been mopped up. Help came in they put him back in his bed in the clothes he was wearing that was now covered in urine. On another day it was a Sunday our brother went to see Daddy. He walked in the room and Daddy and his roommate both were eating with their trays on their bedside tables. Both of them had urinals with urine in them sitting right beside their food trays. My brother found someone to come and empty them a tech walked in and grabbed the other gentleman's urinal walked in the bathroom and poured it out then got Daddy's and done the same thing. Once she left my brother thought to himself he never heard her flush the toilet or wash her hands so he walked in the bathroom, There was no need to flush the toilet because she emptied both urinals in the sink and it wasn't going down the drain the urine was standing in the sink. We were all there on February 17 my sister, niece, Mom and I. The physical therapist came in while we were all standing there and we all told the therapist that Daddy was hurting all the way down his right side and he replied he would re-access him. Daddy was hurting and didn't even want to get out of his bed from all the falls. My Mom and I left my sister and niece left to go down the rode to Sonic to get Daddy some ice. Their ice machine was broken down more then it worked while Daddy was there and whatever he drank he had to have ice in it. They came back Daddy wasn't in his room they walked down to the physical therapy room and there Daddy was sitting in his wheelchair with a puddle of blood under him and no one around. This physical therapist who had just told us he would re-access Daddy got him out of bed took him down to the therapy room and put him on a stationary bike with nothing on his feet but those socks you get at the hospital with the tread on them. Daddy's skin was real thin and he bruised so easy. My niece got some attention to him they rushed him back to his room and put him in his bed. This idiot of a therapist put Daddy on this bike with no shoes on so the peddles ate through his foot and almost went down to the bone. They bandage his foot up and said for him to not put any weight on it so all the time working to get him better so he could go home was just wasted by one of their employees. Daddy did finally get to leave there but it was because my sister showed up and Daddy wouldn't wake up they didn't seem to be to concerned about it. My sister called an ambulance and he was rushed to the hospital. He had to see a foot specialist and we thought he was going to be alright but his foot was so bad that they couldn't keep the infection under control. He had a pic line put in 3 different times he was on several different antibiotics at once. I have never seen my Dad in this much pain it was absolutely heartbreaking. He was moved to another nursing home with 4 different infections in his foot. The antibiotics they were giving him were so strong and powerful that his kidneys started shutting down and this is all in the middle of the Covid-19 scare. We weren't able to see him. Finally on April 16, 2020 my Mom and I took Daddy a milkshake and they told us we could come in 1 at a time so I walked in his room and his first words were where have y'all been? He had no clue about the Covid mess. I sat with him for a while then my Mom went in. I called my sister and she rushed down to see him as well. My Daddy looked up at me and asked me if I was going to be ok? Lying I said yes that was the last time me or any of us saw our Dad alive. He was septic from all the infection in his foot and his kidneys couldn't handle the antibiotics. We got the dreaded phone call around 11:25 p.m. on April 18, 2020 he had passed away with none of us with him because of the virus. We had 2 great people while we were here at this facility. Lori was so good to Daddy she was his nurse if she was there and then there was a Tech by the name of Jeff that was wonderful with Daddy and helped us a lot. Most of the others here including some of the higher up positions were rude and had attitudes that weren't very becoming of them. If you have a loved one here please make sure they are getting the best care possible because now we all have to learn to live in this world without our Dad and trust me it is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.

Vanco Health Care and Rehab took care and looked after my mother, and the staff was very efficient. The rooms were not perfect by all means, but they're very clean and in good shape. They have activities outside the rooms, and they were able to go and meet with all the people that's in there, at a certain times they play games, and they also have crafts that they do in the afternoons. There are different type things they do. The community are also in a good location and is accessible. It's a place that's for people that are a little sicker, they don't go out a lot. But they have entertainment all the time, and a preacher comes in and they had a church service. They also have someone come in from another church and sing to them, they had that every Saturday. When we first got there the food was delicious, but the second time they had somebody make the food and it wasn't good.
