"Goodwin House Bailey's Crossroad was very lovely. I was received by the staff extremely well. The gentleman who gave us the briefing and the tour was incredible. We saw people in the art studio working on art projects, we visited the gym and saw people working out, and we saw people dining. We got what we were looking for and had a very good sense of the facility. I was very impressed with the staff. They were very courteous and going about their jobs. The activities looked absolutely amazing. There were so many things to choose from and lots of people participating."

"Everybody is very nice at Cherrydale Health Care Center. My husband seems to like the food. The people are nice, they really are, but I guess you have to be nice in this line of work. I don't have any complaints, and I don't think he has. The place is clean, and they're available when you need them. My husband is in a double room. He certainly has enough space for himself and so does the other person. I like the idea of him having someone to talk to. On the other hand, he's so sick right now, and he's not talking to anybody. He hasn't been involved with activities, but I would probably give them a high rating. They have physical and occupational therapy; he has been involved in those, and it's very good. And the people that run those programs are very nice, too. They also have parties. We were here on the Fourth of July. They're very good with patients. I think it's expensive, but I think that anywhere, they're all expensive."

"I visited Goodwin House. I am impressed with the residents and the staff. I am also impressed with the activities. The facility was carefully laid out. It's attractive, homey, and lovely."

"My mother goes to Leewood for respite. I have nothing but good things to say about them! They take care of my mom, she loves being with them. She's always happy to see everyone and her friends! She participates in activities, she eats very well there and she has fun! My mother is a stroke patient, she is unable to speak many words as well as use her right arm. They are always assisting her and making her comfortable! Amy- the director, always goes beyond the call of duty. She runs a wonderful place, and it shows by the caring nature of her staff! When my mother is in their care, I literally have nothing to worry about! They are our second family, and I am truly blessed to have them in our lives. "

"I have very high regard for The Virginian. My wife stayed in their skilled nursing facility for about 50 days. The service was good and the meals were terrific. They fed my wife along with the other residents of the skilled nursing facility the same menu as the residents who were fed on independent living and assisted living areas of the facility. The staff was outstanding. They published a calendar of activities and brought them to my wife's attention, but there was no interest. The pricing seemed to be not that bad compared to other senior facilities. I would rank them very highly on the cost side. Given the pricing information on what it would cost, it seemed competitively pretty good. A woman by the name of Lorna, who manages one of the wings of the skilled nursing facility, went out of her way on the day of my wife's discharge from the hospital. This lady kept her office open till about 7:15 in the evening to ensure that my wife could be fully checked in. But that was just one of many, many five-star things that the skilled nursing facility did for my wife while she was there."

"This facility, in northwest DC, is part of Sibley Hospital, but it has its own nursing home. It's on the edge of the city, with a wooded area all around. But its location near the crowded area of Georgetown means it can be hectic to get through; that can also be a benefit, since there are a lot of accommodations nearby. While it can be a little confusing to find your way to the skilled nursing area from within the hospital, there is usually a helpful staff member to help point the way. The place has a very upscale feel: very modern and new-looking, pretty and well decorated. Outside the rooms, there are nice sitting areas, as well as a separate dining area for residents who don't want to eat in their rooms. The food served seems appealing and there are many options available daily. The rooms, some private and some shared, are also very nice and appointed with attractive furniture. The place is well staffed"”and the staff members are very interactive, assisting with meals, engaging residents in conversation. There are scheduled activities daily. Many people assume the long-term nursing care is only for people who have been in Sibley Hospital, but it's not. Because it's located on a hospital campus, there is often an easy transition from hospital to skilled care, which is a plus for many residents. "

"Very clean facility! The rooms are clean but unfortunately there are two beds per room. Very friendly and caring staff. Dialysis center in the facility. I would have given it five stars if they were not using tap water for feed tube flush and for taking medications while there was an Arlington county boiled water advisory in place!"

"My grandmother spent the last year of her life in the Alzheimer's unit of the Washington Home. The facilities are quite pristine and well cared for and despite it's large size and high number of patients it really does feel like a close community. The nurses and staff were always available to give status updates although you really have to plan your visit if you want to meet with the doctor. They have a good amount of activities for both the patients and their families. There are also a lot of volunteer opportunities. Visiting hours are fairly standard and the staff can sometimes be somewhat abrupt when the hours are over. Safety was our only main concern while she was there. Because of the unit she was on, there would frequently be other patients walking into her room and upsetting her. Not much can really be done about that I suppose but it really upset her sometimes and made her stressed out at times. "

"I liked Woodbine Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center. It's a very nice place. Availability wasn't immediately available for my mother, so that was unfortunate. It's very well maintained. I like the activities that they had for adults. It was right in the process of being remodeled. I don't remember a pool or a salon, but what I cared most about was that they had memory care facilities. The rooms were a good size. I believe they were set up for two patients."

"I was the legal guardian for 2 people whom I had to place at Rock Creek Manor Nursing Home. They were very helpful and attentive with both of the residents. My brother, who was psychotic was one of the two people I had placed there. The nurses were very kind to my brother and with Miss Weber. The management team were very helpful with me as the guardian. Of course, I would visit the two people I had placed there at least every other day. The facility was also clean and as the facility was a "lock down" facility I knew that my brother and Miss Weber were both safe and would not wander off."

"This facility is immaculate. I only have terrific things to say about it. It is split up into two separate spaces: one is a nursing home and the other is an assisted living space. The facility is extremely clean and tidy. The staff working there is extremely nice. The nurses that I worked with were very patient and knowledgeable. There seemed to be a high level of interaction with the staff and the residents because all staff knew EVERYONE of the residents. It was an extremely pleasant environment that felt healthy, safe, and professional. The residents seemed to be very happy living in this facility. There were a lot of activities to keep them busy that were provided by the social work team. I thought it was a very comprehensive center focused on making sure residents are happy and healthy. The Louise Lisner Hurt Home is an excellent facility that I would recommend to family members when they are ready for this time. "

"My experience with Forest Hills of DC was great. The lady that helped me was very personable. She gave me some good suggestions, she wasn't at all pushy about the place, and she was very forthcoming with the cost. We got to talk and I told her a lot about my dad, and she was pretty blunt. My dad is only 70 and it seemed like he would be pretty young for that place because most of her clients are in their 80s. The meals are prepared for you. When I got there, there was a guy who was doing folk singing. They have Bingo nights, card nights, and walks. She also notes that if you have any particular interest, you could bring that up to the event coordinator and the would try to get somebody to come and do a speech. They're very open to ideas about your interests and trying to put something together for the group. It just seemed dated compared to the other place I saw. I had to park off the property down on the side street because there's not much parking. The staff has to park there and that leaves very little parking for guests."

"I just love this place because the staff gets so involved with the patient and they are really all about getting people back to life. We had a family member admitted here after a major surgery and he needed some pretty severe rehab to be able to walk again. Well, they work with them here every day and if they don't want to get out of bed and exercise...THEY MAKE YOU DO IT!!! Not in a harsh way or to be mean, but to help get you back to moving. I cannot say enough good things about this rehab team and how dedicated they are. "
