The staff is very good and caring. They have made it bearable for our Father to be away from us. I would recommend this facility.

The Covenant Living was a really nice place. It was very restrictive because of this COVID stuff, and they only allowed me to schedule a visit by email, and then they would take us and bring my friend to me. I could not go into the facility based on the rules, but from what I saw of it and the staff that I know, I was very, very well impressed. The place was relatively new and very clean, and the staff was very professional.
I did not get to tour the facility other than the one area where I would meet with my friend for an hour or so. The surroundings were nice. It’s in a middle class neighborhood and a lot of retirees live in that area. They took care of her, they gave her nursing care, and they even had a staff doctor there. She did not have any complaints, and she said that they were taking care of her well. I also asked her about the food, and she said it was OK.

My aunt was in West Broward Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for rehab. It was pretty good, the only thing that upset me a little bit was, she wasn’t sitting up much. She was in bed most of the time, other than the time when she was going for physical therapy. I didn’t see her sitting up in a wheelchair or anything like that, and it might have been her refusing, so I don’t know. That’s the only thing that I would say was bad, everything else was pretty good, except for the food. The staff was good, there were no problems. It was pretty clean.

My mother was a resident of this nursing home. I visited her there every other day for approximately six years. The facility itself was suitable for use as a nursing home. I mean, it was not a modern building as I would have preferred, but it had everything a patient could need to be comfortable. There was even an adjoining park where patients and their visitors could go and enjoy the fresh air. The building was spacious, and the amenities plentiful. There was always a lot of activities for the patients. A lot of times the patients were treated to field trips; such as the fair and the movies. I went with them a few times. I noticed that the patients were well looked after and cared for on these trips.I got to know the staff quite well; meaning the nurses and CNAs. The majority of the staff were pretty decent folk, and seemed to have a genuine concern for the patients there, but there were a few who had no business being in a nursing home. My mother was a combative patient, she didn’t trust a lot of the staff, and at times she didn’t want them to touch her. Not to clean her. She didn’t want to take her medicine most times. I know this must have been hard for the staff to deal with. I walked in my mother’s room one day, and found a CNA physically fighting with my mother. My mother was screaming for help and no-one came to check on her. The CNA told me that my mother kicked her in the breast, and it hurt. On other occasions my mother ended up with injuries that nobody could say how they happened (including a broken finger). My mother passed a way a few months ago, and I feel like I should have found a better nursing home for her. Miami Gardens Care Center staff can use more training in how to handle combative patients.

Financial Assistance for Nursing Home Care in Pembroke Pines, FL
Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
- Medicare: Medicare will typically cover all skilled nursing costs for the first 20 days of one’s stay in a nursing home and a portion of the costs until day 100. After 100 days in a skilled nursing facility, Medicare will not cover any part of the cost of the stay. While this is adequate when short-term care is needed, those in need of long-term care will need to either pay out-of-pocket or use another source of financial assistance.
- Medicaid: Medicaid covers most of the costs of living in a skilled nursing facility for those who qualify. Care, room, and board are covered with no time limit, but residents may be charged for extras like specially prepared food or cosmetic services. Medicaid eligibility standards are strict and complex, so not all seniors are eligible for Medicaid benefits.
- Veterans Benefits: Veterans receiving a VA pension may also be eligible for the Aid and Attendance benefit administered by the VA. Aid and Attendance is a monthly allowance that beneficiaries may use to pay for their long-term care, including skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.
