I am/was a resident of this facility

I recently finished 2 and a half weeks of post surgery rehab at Glades West in Miramar FL. I was highly impressed with the level of care I received in all respects. The staff was very attentive especially the CNAs who provided the personal in room care. The physical therapy staff likewise was not only professional but approached an otherwise difficult time with such a cheerful attitude that PT was practically enjoyable. The nursing, social services and care coordinators paid attention and resolved all my needs and issues such as transportation to my surgical hospital and transportation to the airport upon my discharge. The physical facility was spotless and the room was equipped with TV, phone and call buttons if necessary. I would highly recommend this facility.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We were in Glades West Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. What I saw was the saddest thing on Earth. My husband fell there six times, four of the six times, they tried to deny it, but other people saw it. He ended up in the hospital as a result of one of those falls that he took. I did not hear one kind word of compassion from anyone the whole time. We were there for almost a month and it was very sad. People were being yelled at for complaining or asking for something for pain or if they had soiled themselves. People were being left to lay in their soiled clothing and wet bed for hours at a time. It's very sad. It's not a good place. We got out of there about a little over a week ago. It was the day after he took the last fall there. They decided that it was time for him to leave, and they never did check him out from that fall. He was in skilled nursing plus they were supposed to do rehab (physical therapy and occupational therapy). When they come in, they put them in a diaper. No walkers. There's a bunch of wheelchairs. Sometimes, they'll let them in a wheelchair to sit up, but most of the time, they just want them in bed. The physical therapy was minimal. One bathroom had feces left in it for three days. It's not everywhere, but you have to clean those things. You look so hard to find some kindness and it's gotta be there someplace, but I did not see it. They didn't have a fully functioning kitchen. They kept saying they were in renovation or getting new help and so on. I saw a printout they put up of different things to do, but all I ever saw was on the one side, there was a woman who would sit and do some little occupational-type things with the older ladies around the table. That was the only thing I ever saw being done. I had to hire private help out of my pocket to pay by the hour just to have someone to sit there to watch him, just to make sure he didn't get hurt. It was very sad. Don't let your loved one go there.
