The people that I encountered at The Landings of Cabarrus were very, very kind. The rooms were small but clean. In talking with them, the administrator had been there for several years. She had called me after my first drop-in visit to speak with me, which I thought was pretty cool. Then she even offered to see if I would be able to get a discount, so she was helpful. The attendants who work in the memory care side were all kind of middle-aged who were tenured, so they had been there a while. They told me they tried to pay them a little bit more to keep good people there. The staff was excellent. She's very knowledgeable and kind. I think she knew what she was talking about. They have an activities director and a little physical therapy room. They describe some of the they do with memory care, such as tossing a balloon to each other, which my husband really enjoys doing with my grandchildren. They also have a little bit of painting, and he used to do watercolors, so he might like that. They have a courtyard that is beautiful. It has lots of furniture outside, and it's secure, so he would be able to go out there. They have a little barber area, and they have somebody come in once a week. You just sign them up. It's an extra charge, but it's very reasonable. That's going to be a big help for me. The private room was small, but I think that it will be adequate. The bathroom and the shower were very nice. My husband can get in easily and out safely. They can help him with his bath, which he needs help with. It looked very clean. There was no clutter in the hall. I didn't see any dirt anywhere, and everything looked organized.

My mother was at The Landings of Cabarrus. It is brand new, and it is a great building, but there is not much care. They weren't treating my mother very well. She was there for eight months. There were a lot of older people with memory issues, and it just felt like she was there, and no one was giving her the attention that she needed. The management wasn't very nice. The facility is nice. They have an enclosed outdoor space so people can go out. They have other things, like a place for them to have physical therapy and stuff. They have some little activities, too. I chose them because they accept Medicaid.

We had scheduled a tour for The Landings of Cabarrus and the lady there was 30 minutes late. When we walked in we saw several residents that were just sitting there kind of asleep. We saw no residents engaged in anything, and the nurses were just going around, but the facility was clean. It was nice. There was no smell, but I just did not get that warm feeling, and my sister could not bring her own furniture there. They've supplied all that. The facility itself was fine. I didn't see any garbage. Everything looked fine, but somebody else had to do the tour. That just didn't sit well with me. When you spend that kind of money they need to be prompt.

My mom is a resident of The Landings of Cabarrus. It's a very relaxed atmosphere with a beautiful area where they can walk. They do activities daily. The atmosphere is bright, too. They have their own rooms. They can have a kitchenette type of room if they like, or they could have a regular room. The furniture comes with it as well. If you want to get a larger bed, you can, but they do provide the furniture as well. They're very hands-on with your loved ones and they treat them with respect. They let them have their freedom to the point where they don't feel like they're being babied. They allow them to live the best they can with the situation that they have. My mom has dementia, but she dresses herself. They just make sure that she takes her medication, and that she's eating. They wash her clothes and all that kind of stuff. They take the resident on outings, they have arts and crafts, and devotion. I would describe them as just caring people, doing their job, and making sure everybody is taken care of. No fuss and very pleasant. It's a very pleasant atmosphere. It's all-inclusive so you don't have to worry about other things you need to pay for.
