My husband is currently at Long Island Care Center. Once you go inside, the lobby is beautiful and they always have flowers there. The lady is sitting there with a smile on her face. They are very nice when you come in. My husband got a big room, and he has a neighbor. He likes the bed, and he's by the window. He's not complaining. The staff is very nice. Everybody talks to you when you come in and when you leave, they say goodbye and have a nice day. The facility seems to be very nice and clean. The people are very friendly.

Long Island Care Center has been pretty good so far. My dad was transferred from the hospital to that center after being hospitalized, and so he has received all these therapies, physical, occupational, and speech therapy, but because of the COVID-19, no visitors are allowed. However, they basically gave us the chance to have a video chat with him so I would see him, and I feel like the center tries to be good to the residents. They also gave him a dietitian, and once every quarter I get to talk to all his providers, like the therapist and the nutritionist, to see how he is doing. They would tell me about his weight changes and things like that. Once every week, I talk to their floor manager too to see how he's doing. I used to have a really good relationship with one of his therapists and she was super nice. She would sometimes call me and give me additional updates about him. From the video, his room is always pretty clean, and he shares it with someone else. He got COVID-19 shots back in January, and the rest of the staff also did. They had two people who got sick with COVID, and we don't know how they got it, but they were isolated, and that has been good. Before COVID, they used to have this recreation center where they would provide lots of activities for the residents. So instead, they have TV for the resident's rooms, and then the other thing they do is they play music on the radio every day, and take my dad out to the hallway just to watch everybody because he couldn't do that much to start with.

My mother just spent 10 weeks at LICC. Due to covid-19 restrictions we could not visit during this time to see first hand how my mother was doing. LICC kept telling us that my mother was not ready to go home and needed more time in rehab. From all indications, LICC took advantage of the situation, milking Medicare for the maximum time they could. When we made it clear we were unwilling to pay out of pocket after Medicare ran out, all of a sudden they were willing to release her. Even then, however, they tried to get us to self-pay for an additional 2 days, saying "they do not discharge patients on weekends". We had to insist that they discharge my mother on the Friday before, instead of the Monday after. Although the care at LICC seemed reasonable (not exceptional), they often left my mother sitting in a wheelchair in the hallway for hours at a time. Also, we found my mother's case worker to be rather unhelpful. Every time we asked her a question, she told us we had to speak to someone else. So it seemed we had to make endless calls to get the info we wanted/needed. We recommend that you avoid this nursing home. But if you do choose LICC, make sure you know your rights and be forewarned that their ethics are questionable.

The fact that this facility has a parking lot is why I chose it and I'm glad I did. My dad wasn't walking to no avail, the nursing and therapy staff would simply not give up they treated him like family and ultimately he participated in rehabilitation on a daily basis, my dad left the facility using a walker, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart is simply not enough!

We did not like Long Island Care Center. The dining area is very depressing. There were old patients in different levels, and people there scream. The nurses or aides would take a long time to come. Sometimes they take them outside and place them in line, like it was some type of military place; I guess to take some fresh air. We just didn't like it.

There not enough words to describe how horrible his place is. My dad who is 83 and visually impaired was left every morning cold and trembling in his bed - after the washed him in the morning they just left him there for hours. He was scared to get out of bed so he would just wait there. I would go there most mornings (calling in late to work) to stop the horror. No one would listen to me when I tried to talk to the staff. Nothing changed. I finally signed release papers that I was taking the medical responsibility for him- which I gladly did. Also, I saw something there I had never seen before in any facility. My dad was in a shared room with 1 other person, my dad's bed was near the window. Because the room was so small, there was no way to get a wheelchair next to my dad's bed to transfer him into unless his roommate was removed from his bed and his roommates bed was pushed at an angle out of the way so my dad could get out. This was a huge hazard in my mind. What if there was a fire? I could not believe my eyes. Please do not take your loved ones to this facility- it's beyond a horror story.

The staff at this rehab center really cared about getting my grandmother better so she could return home. The nurses were busy but were always friendly and helpful. I could not believe how patient the therapists were with her. They let her go at her own pace and I eventually got her back home. I would have liked to see her doctor there more but he was always available when they called him. Parking is crazy, but its in Flushing so I was surprised that there is even a lot next to the building. My grandmother is doing great now and I know its the rehab staff I have to thank for that.
