"My tour of Castle Senior Living at Forest Hills went well. The staff seemed pretty friendly. Right now, it is being renovated. When the renovations are completed I think it will be a really great place for senior living. So it was fine with me. The first floor was beautiful, but they were renovating the second floor, so it wasn't as upkept. One anecdote that I have was they took the seniors out to the park the day before, and the next day since they enjoyed it so much. They decided to have a picnic. Things like that are very good for the seniors, and also I found that they're really trying to make the space as beautiful as possible. From what I've seen, the staff seemed hands-on with the patients, and that's really, really important. The dining looked very interesting. They were just preparing for lunch, so everyone was just getting together to sit. I like the option that if you don't want to sit in the dining room you can have it in your room if you need. And if a family member visits, they could have a meal with the senior that's residing there. And they allow their seniors to make their space their space. They allow them to bring in their own personal items. I saw one that was so beautiful. The lady brought in her own painting, her own dresser, and her own little armchair. It was really nice."

"I am moving into Atria Kew Gardens. It's a very nice looking place. It almost looks like it's in a park, and very nicely landscaped. It's much more roomy than where I'm at now. There were a lot of closets for a one-bedroom apartment. I had lunch there, and it was very good. I saw the activity director briefly, and they talked about James Stewart. It looked like they were discussing movies. I was told that there's a walking club. I have two two cats, and they have someone who comes in and watches your animals if you do need that. They have transportation. Those were two things that helped me decide, and overall it was very nice. It's very well-kept, and it's very attractive. The staff was very, very nice and personable. It's just got that good vibe there; that is why I'm moving in. You know, it's just a really nice atmosphere; that's what made me decide on there."

"My husband moved into Sunrise at East 56th. The place is gorgeous. The care is very empathetic and professional. I couldn't be happier. The food is delicious. They have a variety of activities. They have a lot of music, singing, walking, arts, and crafts. The rooms are beautiful. They are very accessible, and they listen to you. They are concerned about the family's needs."

"My aunt suffered from a stroke earlier this year. Because it was detected very quickly by the staff at Atria, she was treated in the hospital early enough to prevent damage from the stroke. The staff has been extremely helpful, and the facility is lovely. "

"My mother has been a resident since November 2019. She has her own small apartment with a small kitchenette. The staff, housekeeping, maintainence, food service etc. are kind and caring to the residents and visiting family members. There is a wonderful Nurse Practicioner, Grace, who does her best to keep the residents healthy. The Wellness team is efficient and addresses concerns in a timely manner. The resident director, Coleen, and her administrative team's priority is the safety of all of the residents. Katie, the Engage Life Director, does her best to offer programs and entertainment to stimulate and please everyone. My mother was so happy that the entertainment and the creative arts programs are back in place. She is looking forward to signing up for a sight seeing car ride in the future. I highly recommend Atria Park of Great Neck. "

"The apartments were much too small in Coterie Hudson Yards. I'm a very large person, so they are completely out. I'm not ready for anything like that yet. So, my number one dealmaker was the size of the apartments. I could not be comfortable in their one-bedroom. The staff was friendly. The tour guide was excellent. The food was mediocre, though. I asked for a medium rare hamburger. It did not come; it came more well done. I asked for a toasted bun, but the bun was not toasted."

"I moved into Sunrise of Edgewater and the two weeks of lockdown was extremely difficult for me. I did not have a working television, I was not allowed out of my room, and I had no contacts with other people except when they brought medication, so it was an extremely difficult time. They are very well staffed, and it appears to me they have as much staff as they need in order to conduct their business. They are currently serving a lunch meal in the dining room and other meals are provided in the rooms. Medications are brought to the rooms as well. There is very little activity of any kind, and there are a lot of decorations because of the holidays. They allow visiting, but they make an appointment. You can have a 20-minute visit twice a week inside the garden area. They try to repair anything that goes wrong as best as they can. I had a situation where my bathroom could not be made warm, so it was cold all the time until I could not shower. I asked repeatedly for someone to fix it, and they said they do not know what to do and what could be broken. Finally, I said, "I have not showered in 10 days and I'm going to shower in somebody else's room if you do not fix this." So, somebody went up to the roof, found something up there that was not working, and now it's fine, but it took too long a time. The other thing that troubled me is that I said, "My room is warm, why can't I get a little fan and put the fan on, so it would take some of the heat from my room and push it into the bathroom," and they gave me the most incredibly stupid response. They said, "No, you cannot have small electrical appliances in your bathroom," I said, "What about the electric shaver, what about the hair dryer? What are you talking about?" and they were kind of stumbling and did not know what to say about that. It was an unprepared kind of response. It made me very angry because it did not seem to matter to them that I was in a place where I could not shower. It was very, very stupid and petty and unfortunate. This year, they try quite hard to present a variety of pleasant food in good portion sizes, because they are very well aware that we don't do enough to eat more than we're being fed and that's good because in many other places, they feed you overly. The rooms are very beautiful. My room has five windows in an octagon shape, and it is just beautiful. I feel very safe. I feel that they really go such a long way to make sure that we are kept safe. I want to see how they handle the vaccination because they tend to be a little bit behind on things. They should be actively securing information to give vaccination now, so when our turn comes, we would be able to do it, but I don't see anything happening now. The staff tries very hard to be pleasant and caring. They have somewhat of a difficulty with managing some of our residents because residents at this age and under these circumstances tend to be difficult and very self-opportunistic. They have a hard time managing that, but they do the best they can. They try do some kind of physical workout, I think, but it is not seen with great pleasure, and I have not taken part of that. I find them extremely expensive."

"I did a tour of Sunrise of North Lynbrook. It is close to my home, but I didn't care for that place because of the appearance and the people that live there were all in wheelchairs. I just felt it wasn't a good fit with my parents. The staff was fine, he was helpful and informative. It was clean; but I didn't like the rooms, the bed, the living quarters. I felt that they were small, and I didn't like them at all. It's the living quarters I was very disappointed in; and activities there weren't that many compared to other places, for the people to do."

"My mother-in-law is at The Waterford on the Bay. They've been wonderful. They allowed us to pick out what food she likes and they allowed us to bring her clothes. Every time we see her, the aides seem to be feeding her or dressing her or changing her and they're very busy with the other people, too. I have only good things to say about them. They were wonderful from the admission people, to the dietary, to the nursing, and to the aides, and they're going to assess her for rehab. We are very happy she's there. They're always cleaning. She has early dementia, and they have her in the activities that she can do. They were very good to us and they took her right away. I know she's safe, and I could go to sleep and not see her. She's on the Serenity unit."

"I toured Atria Riverdale yesterday, and I was really surprised with all the activities they have. It was a really beautiful place. The bedrooms were nice, bright, and airy. Everyone was so friendly. The dining hall looked like a restaurant. The staff was very friendly and very nice. There was a theater room and they have entertainment that comes twice a week. They had a salon, a computer area, and a library. There was a room where they did activities, like painting and drawing."

"I went to The Veranda Assisted Living. When they showed me the rooms and how they renovated certain things, it looked good. At first, I saw people like they were under the influence of alcohol. According to the state law, they cannot stop them from going out of the building, but if they are drinking in the building, then they're going to get penalized. When I was going in, I saw some people drinking, but they were standing outside. When I spoke to the manager, she said they could go out and they could drink, but they cannot use it in the building. The building was clean. They're doing a lot of renovations. They showed me the place where they're eating. It was nice and neat. They said they are doing renovation, floor by floor, coming down, so the whole building is going to be renovated eventually, and it looks good. The manager was helpful. The dining area was nice and clean. They said they have activities for them. They have special therapy, too."
