"Lohman Village at The Wartburg Adult Care Community was very nice. I like their independent living facility and they are not very pricey. The staff was all very friendly, the amenities were nice, and their common dining room was also nice. This is where both the assisted living residents and the independent living residents go to. I would recommend this facility to others. "

"The Waterford on the Bay seemed very friendly and clean. It was easy to get in and out of. Everybody was very nice, and we liked it. They had shared apartments basically where two people had their own room, and they would have a shared kitchen; that was what we were prepared for. The facility is in Sheepshead Bay. It's right on the water, and you could sit out on the water. which is really nice. They have a big nice dining room that has lots of windows to look at on the water which is good. The food was decent. "

"Good for rehab: bad for long-term. My grandmother stayed in this facility for 2 months undergoing rehab for a broken ankle. She received good, attentive care and the nurse assistants were unusually nice. There was a good activity schedule. My grandmother absolutely loved the physical therapy department because they gave her daily attention and helped her walk. But the facility itself leaves a lot to be desired. While hospitable to residents and visitors, it often has a strong smell which suggests minimal cleaning. Also, the facility is very hard to get to without a car and is practically in the middle of a highway, so if the residents want to sit outside they have to sit near the garbage cans out in front (there is no garden area or proper place to sit). My grandmother ended up needing long-term care so we moved her to a different facility. Long story short: Rego Park is fine for rehab, but not for long-term. "

"I wish I had known before sending my father into Margaret Tietz that their facility was not as their web site suggests, caring and kind with the cute little hearts. The nursing staff was unkind, the doctors were never available (it was like pulling teeth to get them to see patients), and in my father's case, I don't know why, but they didn't feel it was necessary to monitor someone as sick as dad while giving him coumadin, a blood thinner. When someone has a bad heart, bleeds easily and bruises easily, I think most would agree they should be monitored frequently. Their physical therapy was pretty good, and he even liked it, but a coumadin overdose sent him right back to the hospital. It took about 4 days to get the bleeding under control. Dad didn't have to die. Cookie-cutter medicine just doesn't work."

"My brother is currently a resident at Elmhurst Care Center. The facility is exceptionally clean, the food is delicious, and the staff is attentive to the residents. My brother was in another home before this that was filthy, served food I wouldn't serve to my dog, and the staff was nasty. Thank goodness he was sent to Elmhurst. I have witnessed staff members spoon feeding residents who were not able to feed themselves. Bless the good people there for their hard work. "

"The home has plenty of things to do for their residences to keep them active and engaged. They have musicians come in to play music, plenty of games for them to play and have various activities going on weekly. Their staff was very friendly and attentative. There was plenty of aids around to help any of the residents who needed it as well as to make sure everyone was safe and accounted for. The residents even have access to computers and can be assisted with writing emails to loved ones etc. The only main issue I saw with the facility was that there was a few problem residents and/or of lower cognitive function which interrupted some of the events for the other residents. Overall it seems like the residents are well cared for and compared to other nursing homes are treated better. This does not appear to be a place you just put people in to die. "

"I had a lot of good comments about Regal Heights. It has a very pleasant atmosphere. Mom was there for two weeks before she died. The staff was taking good care of her. "

"This living facility is awesome. They have such a great program for the residents to meet with high school students from The Mary Louis Academy and build a bond every Thursdays throughout the entire school year. On these visiting trips, the residents would participate in playing bingo, interacting with the students and it was mostly grandmothers and grandfathers. Usually, the grandmothers were more chatty, expectantly. The staff was courteous and cared for the residents, food was okay, environment was good. I had a chance to speak with numerous residents, we painted the grandmother's nails and made them feel pretty. Sometimes when your living in a facility for various reasons, you kind of just want to talk to people and get to know someone else or have someone make you feel good about yourself, whether it's being proud talking about your family or what not; that is what we provided them with, company and companionship. This is how I always envisioned what a nursing home should feel like. They should hold activities for the residents to feel more involved in society and not just the packed away, put them out of your thoughts, because they are old. I felt the residents were living comfortably and the staff was always nearby to assist the residents. The experience was overall friendly, inviting, safe, and warm. I would definitely recommend this facility to anyone and everyone. "

"I visited this facility when I was looking for a place for my grandmother to stay for long-term care. I expected the place to be like a hospital because of its size and outdoor appearance, but it is actually very nice and homey inside. I went to visit on a Saturday around 3pm, a time when nursing homes are usually dead, but this place was bustling and full of families, kids, patients, etc. It was a warm environment. On each floor, the residents were crowded in front of the TV, but they looked entertained (versus at other places where the residents are forced to sit around doing nothing at all). I got a very good impression of the place. I spoke to a resident who said it was a "great nursing home" and all of the nurses I spoke to said they liked their jobs. Obviously they could have been lying, but they seemed sincere. The care of patients really depends on how happy the nurses are! Since my grandmother did not end up moving here, I do not know exactly how the care is. But I can say that I got a very good impression of the facility, and it is in a great location, right next to a bus stop and close to the subway (7). It is a huge facility that feels warm, homey, and hospitable. The rooms are average size. "

"My husbands's widowed father moved there after he was unable to live alone. He quickly acclimated to the loving peaceful surroundings at Providence Rest...what a treat to be on Long Island Sound. Every person working and volunteering there is exceptional. The Sisters of St. John are so humane and professional. I started volunteering at their fabulous Adult Day Health Care after my father-in-law died. I am so impressed with the organization at every level. "

"I picked this facility over others primarily for the care. My Aunt is in her first stages of Dementia and was wandering in the streets with no recollection while living alone. Here I feel her safety is of the utmost concern for them. She is treated respectfully and eating well. The rooms are clean and she's with other patient's who are in the same state of health. It will take time to make it her "home", and I'm comfortable that the staff follows up with me on any concerns or feedback regarding her care and adjustment. I couldn't have asked for a better situation when I had nowhere else to turn to for assistance. "

"I have been in Bushwick Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, and I didn't like it. People walk past you when you're calling them when you need help; I didn't like it at all. It's decent and clean. The only thing is that when you're sitting there by yourself and you're yelling, everyone acts like can't they hear me. These people are walking by working. They leave you in your room sitting; that's not good. I couldn't walk at the time, and it was hard for me to get to the bathroom. I wore pampers, and they just left me. They came there when they were ready. With that being said, it's always clean and everything. it is everything that's behind that makes it all bad. I went there to have physical therapy, and that was about it. The food was not for me. I'm allergic to onions, and everything they cook had onions. They really had to substitute with chicken, and then they weren't doing that right. They have lunch and all that. Breakfast was half okay, I'm allergic to onions so they had to substitute. The way I eat every day, I eat chicken. I didn't mind because I like chicken, but they could have substituted it with something else - anything. People have pizza and everything. I don't have it. Others have a sandwich and all that; so, not good. I like the way it's put together. It's clean and decent. It's just, the food and the people walking past you, are the two things that to me that are just out of place. A couple people that were working there (two or three people) walk past while I was sitting there calling them, and I was in a single room. They just kept walking past. The rest of the staff was all right. You know, few people that was alright and few people that wasn't. There were people working on the floor that are sometimes are not good at all. They have some staff members that were not all that either. You had to call and look for them. You have to get them when you needed them. I recommend they substitute the food for people who were allergic and make sure they get better staff on the floor. If you want to be on the floor working, you got to be on the floor working."
