"I visited The Waterford on the Bay, it's about the same as others, maybe a little nicer in that sense. When I visited, it was past the lunch hour, but they gave me lunch. They were nice. They gave me a choice, I asked for something and it was good. They offered me a full lunch, but I had just more of a snack lunch. That was fine for me, but they would have given me more."

"The staff in Meadowview assisted facility are very friendly. My mother is very happy to be fortunate to have people to talk to, especially when she get's lonely. Most of the family visit her on the weekends. This facility are there for her every day of the week which is great because everyone in the family are always busy with work. My mother is 88 years old and isn't stable enough to walk by herself. Her legs are very fragile. My mother has fell down several times when she was living by herself in her home. Living in this assisted facility has helped her over the past 2 years. My family agrees that this facility has given my mother the best assistance. I am content. I hope my mother lives many more years and I know this facility will help her accomplish it. "

"My mother is staying at Queens Boulevard Extended Care. The rooms are very nice; they're excellent. The staff is very friendly. We are very happy. I will not say the food is excellent, but it's OK. It's good and very neat. I like the environment. I like the furniture there, especially the way they set up the beds. Two of the beds were by the window and I liked it. Very bright. "

"I like Regal Heights. It's a fine, clean, small place. The staff is very professional, very nice. They call promptly if there is something wrong and report everything right away. They call me to tell me that they're changing the medication and ask for my permission. They don't do anything without my permission, which is nice. My aunt is 88 years old and couldn't take care of herself anymore. She kept falling, so she needs 24-hour supervised care. Regal Heights is very clean, nice, and organized. The social workers are very nice and excellent in their work. The transition was very easy. From the social worker to the Medicare/Medicaid assistant who did all the papers for me, and the office, they made it very easy to take care of everything. "

"Elmhurst was beautiful, and they were caring to the seniors there. They were able to go around and not confine to one spot; it was really nice, but unfortunately my father did not have the coverage that would keep him there longer. You have a 24hr nurse station, and you have home attendants that come do your laundry and clean your room. You have books downstairs and beautiful scenery. They are friendly, caring and there were people helping with feeding some of the other people. They had two rooms on each end where it was like a living roomwhere they could sit down and watch TV, and then they had another room that was the cafeteria. I wish I could afford it, but it’s very expensive. "

"Good for rehab: bad for long-term. My grandmother stayed in this facility for 2 months undergoing rehab for a broken ankle. She received good, attentive care and the nurse assistants were unusually nice. There was a good activity schedule. My grandmother absolutely loved the physical therapy department because they gave her daily attention and helped her walk. But the facility itself leaves a lot to be desired. While hospitable to residents and visitors, it often has a strong smell which suggests minimal cleaning. Also, the facility is very hard to get to without a car and is practically in the middle of a highway, so if the residents want to sit outside they have to sit near the garbage cans out in front (there is no garden area or proper place to sit). My grandmother ended up needing long-term care so we moved her to a different facility. Long story short: Rego Park is fine for rehab, but not for long-term. "

"Community Action Bedford Stuyvesant (CABS) is a grass roots neighborhood nursing home openned in 1976. I have personally found this facility to have caring staff and clean surroundings. They are also connected to an assisted living building. If you are in need of these services you should contact a variety of facilities and go and see what your own impressions are but also consider this facility and add it to your list of places to visit. "My mother is staying here after having a brain bleed which has left her with many deficits. I think that she should be in a room closer to the nursing station because she cannot advocate for herself and her cognition at times is impaired. Instead the room she is in is quite far away. Out of sight is out of mind. Most recently there was a medical emergency that happened, in my view, because she's not monitored enough. I think that there ARE some very dedicated people working here. But, the care for my mom's condition is lacking."

"I liked Lucille Rose Adult Day Health Care Program when I visited there. The place was very secured. There was security personnel around and non-residents were not allowed to get in unless thoroughly inspected. I was not able to look at the rooms but the lobby was beautiful. "

"I have been in Bushwick Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, and I didn't like it. People walk past you when you're calling them when you need help; I didn't like it at all. It's decent and clean. The only thing is that when you're sitting there by yourself and you're yelling, everyone acts like can't they hear me. These people are walking by working. They leave you in your room sitting; that's not good. I couldn't walk at the time, and it was hard for me to get to the bathroom. I wore pampers, and they just left me. They came there when they were ready. With that being said, it's always clean and everything. it is everything that's behind that makes it all bad. I went there to have physical therapy, and that was about it. The food was not for me. I'm allergic to onions, and everything they cook had onions. They really had to substitute with chicken, and then they weren't doing that right. They have lunch and all that. Breakfast was half okay, I'm allergic to onions so they had to substitute. The way I eat every day, I eat chicken. I didn't mind because I like chicken, but they could have substituted it with something else - anything. People have pizza and everything. I don't have it. Others have a sandwich and all that; so, not good. I like the way it's put together. It's clean and decent. It's just, the food and the people walking past you, are the two things that to me that are just out of place. A couple people that were working there (two or three people) walk past while I was sitting there calling them, and I was in a single room. They just kept walking past. The rest of the staff was all right. You know, few people that was alright and few people that wasn't. There were people working on the floor that are sometimes are not good at all. They have some staff members that were not all that either. You had to call and look for them. You have to get them when you needed them. I recommend they substitute the food for people who were allergic and make sure they get better staff on the floor. If you want to be on the floor working, you got to be on the floor working."

"Jewish Home Lifecare was more aggressive physically in having you do their exercises, and if you were sort of not that enthusiastic on a given day, they kind of came after you and said, "No, you must come down. This is for your benefit not mine." It was a little less personal. The people who were doing the rehab, I don't think worked directly for the Jewish Home. They were contractors that came on a regular basis. I think it was an 8-story building, and each floor was pretty much the same, the way they had the rooms added in that did not have private bathrooms. I know it didn't have private bathing facilities. The only way you could bathe was when one of the nurses would take a reservation for you at a certain day and time, and she would accompany you into a room that had a bathtub that you could walk into -- an old style bathtub. I think the Jewish home probably could use the lobby area where the visitors would come. That was sort of up-to-date, but the rest of the place was a little on the tired side although it was vast. It had a library, which essentially had Jewish theology books that you could check out and read. What my overall complaint for every place was the lack of having a daily major circulation newspaper. The food was just adequate. It was essentially the food was brought to your room. I was in a five-bed area, which was divided up with curtains between the beds. The food that I had was not kosher. I guess they had a kosher food area, and they do have rabbis that come in, but since they knew that I was not Jewish, it was not something that they had just kosher food. We did not have pork products that I can recall, but it was sort of non-sectarian. "

"I wish I had known before sending my father into Margaret Tietz that their facility was not as their web site suggests, caring and kind with the cute little hearts. The nursing staff was unkind, the doctors were never available (it was like pulling teeth to get them to see patients), and in my father's case, I don't know why, but they didn't feel it was necessary to monitor someone as sick as dad while giving him coumadin, a blood thinner. When someone has a bad heart, bleeds easily and bruises easily, I think most would agree they should be monitored frequently. Their physical therapy was pretty good, and he even liked it, but a coumadin overdose sent him right back to the hospital. It took about 4 days to get the bleeding under control. Dad didn't have to die. Cookie-cutter medicine just doesn't work."

"My aunt stayed in Amsterdam House for ovre a month and a half after a stroke. The care was excellent - from OT, PT, Speech therapy, and floor nurses and aides. The level of staffing was very adequate and very responsive to my requests. The food was fine. The room was a bit bare but very clean. My aunt was very well taken care of during her stay."
