The tour at Amber Court of Pelham Gardens was pretty good and very thorough. They had very nice amenities. They had a library and very good artwork. But they were on double occupancy. They had very few single rooms. They also had an admission code for their own particular care. They had a specific matter of payment.

I toured Amber Court of Pelham Gardens. It was nice, clean, and calm. They showed me the rec room, the cafeteria, the therapy room, and the outside. The staff was very nice. The layout was fine. The residents were watching TV the day I went there.

The individual at Amber Court of Pelham Gardens who conducted the tour was informative and pleasant. The main parts of the facility were attractive. But the rooms looked a bit older and small and probably needed updating. Most of the rooms had 2 people sharing a room. So, they would each have their own bed and their own dresser. They could certainly decorate the room that they wanted, and then the bathrooms were in their rooms. They had a couple of single occupancy rooms. They were small rooms where a twin bed would fit. The main areas had been updated and very nicely decorated. There was one large community room with a TV in it. And so, a lot of the residents were sitting and watching whatever program was on. In that room, they had a chart posted with activities for the week. The day was not tightly scheduled with things to be done. There was a large dining room and the residents were assigned a table. There was a library, but the only person I saw in that room was the unofficial librarian, who was one of the residents. They had a medication management office, a small office where the residents and the assistants could go and get their medication. They would charge additional fees if someone wanted to have his own cable TV in the room or a telephone in the room. If they wanted a small refrigerator, that's an additional cost. The 2 admissions people that I talked to were very nice and very helpful, and they were excited about the program and about the residents who live there.

There was nothing I liked about Amber Court of Pelham Gardens. It was not very clean. It was small. The person that helped me walk through seemed nice and informative. My mother didn't like it either. She walked in there and then within 10 minutes, she was like, "I want to go." It didn't smell right. It looked old. They had one big room where everybody watched TV. That one big room was attached to the dining room. To me, it was very small and very cramped. It looked like there was nothing outside if my mother wanted to sit outside in the sun. They were nice to me and they were nice to mom, but all I met was the person that gave me the tour and the front desk. There was nobody else really else around. I didn't see many amenities. It's next to a couple of nursing facilities, so it's kind of off the beaten path from the highway. God forbid someone has dementia or Alzheimer's and they get out the door, they're going to wander into homes that are there, and a street that's wide and open and cars do fly through there.

The only place we saw was the Amber Court of Pelham Gardens. They have private rooms, which I thought was nice, but it is expensive. I'm only realizing now that I cannot afford it, so I would have to share a room with someone I don't know. However, I think that Amber Court of Pelham Gardens was a place that we were definitely considering. It was clean. The person who walked through with us was very nice and very informative. We saw that they did have activities. We didn't see exactly what they were, but I saw they did have activities. I know that you can leave the grounds and walk around, which is a plus. It was a very pleasant tour. The place was clean outside and inside. I think there was a gym and a salon.

I toured Amber Court of Pelham Gardens. The layout was nice. I don't know exactly what to say about the staff because they seemed to be very busy. The place was kind of crowded. It's pretty good, it's very busy though. Maybe they need more staff. They have lounge areas on every floor and one major big lounge room on the main floor, which was crowded. They have different areas. They have places where they could sit comfortably or sit together with masks. The living areas were good. They were nice and clean. They had staff working. The people were playing cards. Mostly they were just sitting there watching TV waiting for other activities to get started. But I didn't pay too much attention to that; I just saw the workers bringing people back and forth from the area. The facility is so crowded. The staff might be a little bit on the par to keep up with everything. It seemed like they were taking care of the people there, but I didn't get to see much interaction with them. The ones that were upstairs on the floor in their little social lounge there, seemed very comfortable and very happy. I didn't get to see much staff intermingling with them.

I'm a friend of a resident at this assisted living facility. This facility is in need of new management. I visited on several weekends and the meals on the weekend are always the same grilled cheese and a soup. The other issue is they always lose the residents clothes regardless if they're labeled with the residents name. That's very irresponsible and unprofessional, and yes I did experience seeing bugs and mice crawling on the residents beds. I was in shock. The employees that work there should be ashamed, starting from management all the way to lowest position.

I am a relative of a current relative living at Amber Court, in the Bronx. The place is absolutely discussing. They try to keep the entrance looking good, but its nothing like what it seems to be at the entrance. The place always smells of urine, its filthy, theres bugs ,and much more. The staff is very nasty, they treat those poor people like animals,no I take that back! animals are treaded better!! If you can try to avoid this so discussing place!!

I visited this facility today in search of a new home for my 94yr old grandmother, and I was very impressed by the atmosphere. Upon entering, we were welcomed and given a tour by the Admission Supervisor (Sheila), who is a lovely, knowledgeable, energized woman. My Downs: 1)the meals didn't look that appetizing (mash potato, breaded chicken cutlet and string beans) 2)rooms were a bit small for two people (dorm room style) My Up's: (what you may not know until you visit) 1)you are allowed to bring some furniture, electronic devices, and your own mattress 2)people are very positive, all worker know residence by name or nickname 3)nice garden and seating outside two separate areas 4)activities indoors and outdoors (weekly trips) 5)residents seem very happy and well taken care of ( one woman passing us in the hallway, and without us asking, she said she really liked the facility and that it was a great place 6)rooms/bathrooms were clean and without any smell 7)fresh paint, new carpeting, air conditioner in all the rooms 8) All daily living needs are on sight 9) you can just walk in for a visit, but an appointment is always better ( we called and they asked us to come in within an hour, because people were in meetings) 10) neighborhood is nice and quiet After visiting many Assisted Living Residences in the Bronx and Westchester- I found hope. This is one of our top contenders. Now Grandma needs to decide. Good Luck. Jackson3

The positive about Amber Court was that the administrative staff was very caring and forthcoming. The negative was that it wasn't all what they said it was going to be in terms of programming or the whole ambience. They had activities like bingo and some arts & crafts, but there wasn't anything challenging. It was more geared towards the mentally ill. That was the piece of it that I didn't like. They were more people with mental health issues. The apartments were nice, and I liked it. They could improve on the meal plans. It wasn't appetizing at all, and there weren't many choices.

One of my church brothers is there at Pelham Gardens. It is a nice place. It is clean and nice. They have a lot of activities, especially in the summer time. They have the 24-hour care too with nurses. The staff is very nice. For the few times we go there in the day time, they're pretty good. They don't have the attitude. It is a nice community of people. They have activities like line dancing for the old folks, movies, and ping-pong. It is like a home because they can bring some of my friend's furniture. It is like a home away from home. Their rooms are very clean. It is another place for people who have few dollars. I could see this is a very clean place. It is also a pretty big place.

Amber Court looked old, the carpeting is old. There were lots of people walking around with walkers. The place is a house for sharing. The rooms were very small for 2 people. They were as big as the bathrooms. The room is only good for 1 person, but the price is too high for 2 in a room. I didn't like it, and I will not recommend them to others. But we were shown the dining room, it was nice. They have a chart with scheduled weekly activities, too.

The facility is a great facility but sometimes they fail to clean on time and provide decent meals for the elder. they have recreation centers for the elder and also bingo night and therapy night which is great; it helps some of the 70 and 80 year olds to communicateey so that they won't feel lonely and isolated. there is a beautiful park to visit and the older adults love it
