Assisted Living Reviews for The Residence at Cedar Dell

I visited this facility

I think in Cedar you had to spend time in the dining room, and they did in fact have a unit that had cooking facilities so that it’s possible to prepare something. It’s just that these places for our interest right now seemed to be a little of all of them. They were protective -- and that’s good -- but more protective than what we need at the moment. We actually put in an application for one of the residences which was a two bedroom, and then I guess we held that for a month and then decided that it was probably not our time for the assisted living. We saw a one bedroom, and it was very spacious, bright, and very appealing. If you are going to be out for the evening to dinner and you are going to be late like 8 o’clock, you have to let them know because they lock the doors; this is a security feature but it’s just something that I don’t really want to be announcing myself, and that’s just my particular preference. We were invited for a meal and we did not partake because we didn’t want to spend the time sitting at a table and being served, but their meals supposedly were very nice and there were people who were lining out to get in to the dining room. The people had favorite tables and wanted to be there, but they supposedly have a very good menu. We have seen the sample menu, and it was appealing. They did have a community room, exercise, hairdressing room, and a barber shop; they really fill most of the needs of the people, and those needs that were not met at the facility were considered to get transportation.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My parents have received excellent care from the caring and experienced personnel of The Residence at Cedar Dell. Initially, my parents were in the assisted living together. Then, my mom required more monitored care in the meadows unit. However, the staff encourages my parents to be together as often as possible to maintain their quality of life.

We encourage them to be active members of society, to be independent, to express themselves and to flourish. We create life experiences and events, rather than merely providing “activities.” Reflections is distinguished by its Five Principles for Vitality, which connect with the whole person through Continued Learning, Arts & Culture, Physical Fitness, Community Connections and Wellness & Self-Care. Through these five dimensions, residents can thrive in the moment as their best selves. Favorite programs include: crafting, music, exercise and reminiscing activities- trivia relating to old movies, songs, TV shows, historical events, etc.

Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?

Our Resident Care Director and Reflections Director complete a pre-move in assessment, post move-in assessment after 30-days and residents are then reassessed every 6 months or sooner if needed based on medical need/intervention (fall, sickness, hospitalization, etc.)

What techniques does The Residence at Cedar Dell use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?

Dining Details: Our plates are yellow, which is an “Active Color” that stimulates the salivary glands. Apricot-colored placemats provide color contrast for visual clarity. Tables are set with minimal centerpieces to avoid distraction. Soft, melodic instrumental music provides ambiance and aids digestion. Glass drinkware is used instead of plastic to maintain dignity. Contrasting colors are easier to see and distinguish, so our uniforms have a different color top than bottom and servers wear colorful aprons. Our caregivers wear lime green because it is a clearly visible color to residents with dementia. A social dining program alleviates isolation and depression. Caregivers are also trained to keep conversation cheerful. Offer foods that can be easily eaten by hand such as shrimp cocktail and potato wedges to assist residents with dexterity challenges who struggle with cutlery.
