"The only reason we didn't pick The Current South Shore is that the apartment was on the fifth floor, and the porch was way bigger. It didn't have a cover, so we were wondering how we were going to shovel it and where do you put the snow when you're five stories up. The Current South Shore was actually really nice. It was brand new. It was six months old. The apartment that they showed us was a studio with a huge porch, and that was for independent living. I would give it a 3 only because right beside it was an automotive shop, and you could smell the oil if you went outside. Also, if my dad needed more help, he would lose his apartment, and he would get a smaller place. The staff member who gave the tour was wonderful, but the other person was awful. We gave them money first and then changed our mind because the other person was so bad. The place is beautiful, but one of their problems is the way the driveway is. When you come in, there's not much room. It's the way it's designed."

"My 2-bedroom apartment is lovely with a scenic view facing east at a wooded area. Other apartments face a reservoir-lake with ducks, egrets, turtles, geese. A gentle waling path with benches at intervals surrounds the building. The staff are wonderful and supportive. The 300 plus residents are friendly but not intrusive, interesting bright and stimulating people. The many activities and programs available on a daily and evening basis provide more than sufficient to keep everyone happy. I came here alone after my partner unexpectedly died the month we were to move, and I was so warmly welcomed and made to feel at home that the grief of my loss was mitigated. This is a wonderful place to be."

"I visited Anchor Bay at East Providence. The layout of the building, the rooms, the setup of the dining rooms, and the halls seemed very, very appropriate, and I liked that very much. I realized they have a lot of people to take care of, but it's very good. It was just about what I would expect for a place like that. It was very nice and very clean. They have a game room. At the time we went in, there was a whole room of people in chairs doing chair exercises and a room where they were sitting down, talking, and stuff of that nature. They had the regular dining. It was a combination of a place where they could eat if they wanted to, or they'd spend the day there just sitting at tables in groups. There were two to three at a table. They had a beauty parlor. The dining area had a setup to prepare meals, to warm them up, and stuff like that, so you could be guaranteed that you'd have a nice warm meal if it required it. They've brought them from the kitchen up there, and then they serve them to the people. The staff was very, very knowledgeable about the place and very accommodating. He didn't go much into the details of the finances, which I was interested in, but everything else, he was perfect. The facility was very good, very clean, and very nice."

"I went to see Wingate Residences on Blackstone Boulevard. It was a big high-rise building, so it was tough to get from place to place in the building. It was very big but it had everything. My biggest problem with this place was that it was pricey. The staff was great, they were wonderful. They had everything you can imagine there and more, they had a salon, they had a gym, they had massages, and they had all kinds of stuff. In terms of location, everything is there."

"Apartments are oversized. Decorated nicely. Food is delicious."

"My sister was there a few weeks recuperating from a fall at home. Everyone there were so passionate and caring. She had a beautiful room , she enjoyed all the meals that were served and had many social activities to join in if she was interested. She was very happy there and we were so relieved to have her being taken care of until she felt better to return home. "

"My brother-in-law has moved into The Highlands on the East Side. It's very good. We liked it because it was the most affordable. We also liked it because it was nice and small. He has trouble walking, so it was nice and easy for him to navigate. Upkeep and maintenance seem fine so far. The staff has been very good. They have community areas and a dining area. It's not as fancy as the others, but perfectly adequate for his needs. He participates in the activities. He's very social, so that works out well. He's been doing Jeopardy, some of the game shows, bingo, and things like that, nothing very strenuous. It's not the highest-end place ever, but it fits his needs. We're happy with that. The food is OK."

"Whaler's Cove Assisted Living was a great place. It's beautiful. It used to be a department store a long time ago. It's very beautiful inside, and it's got elevators to everywhere. You bring your own furniture and you decorate your apartment the way you want it to be. It's kind of an extension of where you came from. It's a little expensive. One of the things that I thought was good is that they have a sliding scale and you can kind of negotiate the prices depending on what your needs are. The staff during the tour was terrific. She explained everything. She showed me everything. She introduced me to one of the residents so that we could get to see an apartment. I think the bedrooms in those apartments are bigger than my bedroom at home. It was a busy day for them. She had some things going on in the auditorium that she had to be at, so there wasn't time to do anything like eat there. It looked very clean. There's a big reception area when you go in the front door. It was very quiet there, except people were going up and down the elevators. It was a Saturday when I went there, so some of them were probably going off to spend some time with family and stuff like that. They have a lot of activities there. They have a big auditorium that shows movies and a full-size movie screen like you'd see in a theater. They have a library. They have a lot of good things. One of the things that impressed me about it is the fact that it's a very active community."

"I toured Allerton House at Proprietors Green. It was exquisite. The staff were very friendly. They had everything that I could be interested in. They had a theater, they had a pub, they had transportation, and they had a lovely dining room. It's extremely clean. It was in a very equipped location for everything."

"My mother has moved into All American Assisted Living at Wareham. I like that the rooms are two-bedroom units, so they always have a roommate. They have a secure outside courtyard, and they provide a lot of activities for the residents. The staff is very caring. They make time for everyone. They don't seem stressed. Even though they may be, they have very good attitudes. She's in memory care. The food is very good."

"We toured Allerton House Weymouth. What we like best about them is the decor and the appearance of the place. We like the location, too. Everything basically meets our expectations of what we would be looking for should we decide to move somewhere. However, they probably would not provide transportation to our doctors that we use now. The staff members were good. It looked like there was a good variety of food and a lot of options that you can take. It's very flexible as far as when you eat."

"When I knew my sister needed to live in an assisted living/memory care facility, I developed the criteria that I felt was important. Ideally I wanted the facility to be near me so I readily could have 'easy' contact for visits and to meet whatever needs might arise. I wanted the facility to provide safety and security for her, a social setting to combat loneliness and activities to keep her engaged. I wanted her to be able to live her life as fully as she was able. Living in Hingham myself, I looked to Google to see what (if any) facility might exist in my immediate area. When seeing that Allerton House was an option, I called to make an appointment with the Marketing Manager. Upon entering the site, I was blown away. It was very well appointed - actually beautiful - and had the look and feel of a private residence. Once the Manager explained the services and answered my initial questions, I was shown an actual unit. I was convinced my search was over. My prayers were answered! Initially I secured a unit in the assisted living portion of Allerton. After two years., my sister relocated to the memory cars area in a wing of Allerton. Simple transition. Fast forwarding, my sister has lived at Allerton for 3 1/4 years now. She loves it !! And I love it. The care and attention she receives daily has made her feel loved, comfortable and secure. No more being responsible for cooking, cleaning etc. and other pesky chores. And she dines in a restaurant quality dining room daily. She often raves about the variety and quality of the food. And the availability of snacks and special offerings for occasions is a bonus. She is an active participant in the numerous activities, enjoys the bus trips to various local sites and has made many friends - no longer alone in a big house. Among her friends are the staff who are extremely caring and supportive. I am kept completely informed of any concerns the staff may have of her needs both medically and socially. We communicate in person, by telephone or by text. The management, nursing staff, aides, receptionists and maintenance staff are exemplary - each and every one. Being the primary giver, Allerton House has given me peace of mind. I know my sister is happy and being well cared for while living her life in a nurturing and loving environment. Hats off to the staff at Allerton who consistently - particularly during these trying times - meet her needs and my expectations and then some! Amen. "

"I visited Smithfield Woods Senior Living and toured their assisted living facility for my friend. I like the sense of community and friendliness there. The staff members were extremely knowledgeable and very patient in answering my multitude of questions. The rooms, even though my friend will be having the smaller-sized room, are adequate. It's enough to fit a little seating area plus the bed, has a kitchenette, and the bathroom is a nice big size. I'm very pleased with it."

"I visited The Phyllis Siperstein Tamarisk RI Assisted Living Residence. I chose it for myself and my wife because it's closer to where I live. Also, I know people who have gone there. It's a beautiful place. The entire place is beautiful. It's clean and has no old person smell. The food is good. They have a gym and a library, but I haven't visited all the areas yet. The staff has been excellent. The building itself is spectacular, and it is organized."
