I am living in Edenton. It is a wonderful place to live. It is an assisted living and they have independent living apartment, and some Alzheimer's/dementia areas and rooms. I am in one of the independent living's two-bedroom apartments. It has one bedroom on each side and two entrances. I think it was originally made out so that if you have a caregiver who is living with you, they can utilize one of the bedrooms. It can also be for couples. I do have a full kitchen -- they just remodeled it last year. I have a dishwasher and wood laminated floors in the kitchen. I have a refrigerator, electric stove, microwave, granite countertop and its very nice. I have a living room in the center and two full baths a well and they are handicap accessible with bars. It doesn't have a lot of closet space, but I have a storage unit. It is small but its fine for me. There are also some studio apartments and town house units with one bedroom upstairs. They have a lifeline that you can ring if you need assistance. They also have outlets for telephone. The director is absolutely fabulous. The staff is wonderful. They have assisted aides who take the people around in their wheelchairs if they need to go to some of the events. It helps the people to go out. I can't say enough about them and I don't utilize a lot of their services because I am in the independent living. They have 24-hour security. They have a restaurant and many people eat there. You can have three meals a day in the restaurant if you desire. However, I don't eat there because I cook my own meal. They have a nice calendar of events every month for people to take advantage of. They have activities at Frederick Community College where they go out to some concerts or things out there. They take people who want to go to the baseball team and outings. They have bus transportation for the residents if someone who doesn't drive needs transportation. They have their own beauty shops and it is very self-contained, if you want it to be. They have a small chapel in the restaurant building and they have services there on Sunday afternoon. They have bingo in what they call the manor house, which is the main building. They have trivia and exercise classes for seniors. I take advantage of those. There are a group of people who are pretty active and a lot of them go to the exercise class that I go to, and we also have a chorus for men and women who like to sing. It can be as homey and unhomey as you want it to be. It depends on what you participate in and do. It has a very friendly atmosphere and the people are wonderful. I will recommend it to seniors who are independent but I think they also have an outstanding care in the assisted living area and you have rehab services available in the campus as well.

We toured the Edenton Retirement Community. The thing that I liked the best is it's very consolidated in terms of the fact that there are lots of things to do and a lot of activities going on in the same building. To me, the thing that has the greatest appeal is the fact that there is independent living now. There are 45 cottages. Each one is individual, just like a little miniature community. Each one has the name of a different kind of apple, and that refers to the size and the kind of facility that is, like Macintosh, Golden Delicious, and so forth. The thing that I liked the least that can be overcome is the fact that in many of these independent homes, little homes, there are no washers and dryers. The staff was wonderful. They were very warm. They really seem to care about the residents there. Most of the staff members have been there for a long time. They just don't come and go all the time. The person with whom we spoke in marketing had been there for 18 years. The executive director has been there for six or eight years. They're all long-timers. We met the chef and the chef talked to us. The food was great. The cleanliness was terrific. The structure was wonderful. The community house itself is big. I think it's an old mansion, but it doesn't look old. I mean, it's very well-kept. There's a separate facility for the restaurant, which is also extremely well-kept and very well laid out. The atmosphere was friendly.

I think we're going with Edenton Retirement Community in Frederick. I visited both assisted and independent living. They're clean, friendly, and organized, and there were a lot of good things about them. The staff was friendly, approachable, and very well-informed. The room we saw was nice and adequate. They were also clean and the size was okay. They had activities scheduled too but I don't remember them. The dining area was pleasant and clean.

Nice rooms. Food ok. No attention to details. Missing supplies and wasteful use of supplies. Lack of communication between staff.

Edenton was nice, and the location was good as it’s really close to where my mom is currently living, so she is familiar with the area. The unit that we looked at was cleaned up, but it was more or less that you are renting an apartment. We were pleased with the dining area; we saw people eating, and it was lunch time. The sandwiches looked fresh; it was quite impressive. The property was nice and well-maintained. The staff -- Loren -- was excellent. It’s really just come down to the financial aspect.

I went to Edenton for my mom. It was a bit more expensive. My mom did rehab there as an outpatient, and while they did have a great staff, they couldn’t accommodate her. I was working with Edenton for some time now, and the staff was accommodating and great to work with. The problem we had was I still have to move my mom twice, and it is a little farther away. They have a retirement community with nice cottages and independent living and assisted living in an apartment building. They have anything from efficiency apartments to nice-sized two-bedrooms. I really thought that my mom would be a candidate there, but as much as I would like to see her in that setting, it was not the right thing for her. However, they were very truthful and forthcoming about what they recommended for my mom based on what they knew about her health and physical state.

Edenton was bright and sunny. It’s a big community and the apartments seemed to be fine. The food was fine too. I had lunch there. I saw their calendar and they have a wide variety of activities.

She is in a home, and I am very happy with it. They have an assisted living and an Alzheimer’s Unit, and she does have Alzheimer’s. They are some of the finest people I have ever run across. She is there just two months, and every time I go, she is clean, and the room is perfectly clean. She is unhappy of course -- but they all are when they first go in -- but they understand that and they are just the most caring people I have ever been run. She has been in two others, and I was not that happy with them. Edenton is a village, and each house has a different name. I have tried the food, and they’re OK, but they are not like when you are making home, and they are not like a chef but it’s well-balanced.

My mother is already in an assisted living called Edenton Retirement. The location is perfect for her, and it’s where she wanted to be. Her reason of leaving the nursing home was that she hated the food there and she likes the food where she is now. The people are very nice as well as the staff. She is in a studio; she has her bed, chair, dresser, nightstand, microwave, and refrigerator, and a large closet. The bathroom is very big and nice with lots of space. She can also bring what she wants there. Once you’re in there if you want to go to a larger room, the first one that comes available you would be able to get.

Edenton is our choice for mom because it is smaller and the staff is very knowledgeable with all the stages of Alzheimer's care. They are very attentive and are able to react to the special needs of the behavioral disorders. She's in a room with a shared bathroom, two residents per bathroom. It has a closet and a window. The food is very nice. They had activities but she's not participating with the activities at this time.

My parents moved in at Edenton Retirement Community. It is an independent living facility but they have aides that would help their residents. My parents have a cottage with one bedroom; it is big enough for two people. They have a dining facility where they could go. It is spacious enough for the residents. However, because my parents are sick now, they have their food delivered to them. The staff is very good. They take care of my parents. Anytime my mother needs help, they would be there for her. They have activities for their residents. They have exercises, luncheons, birthday parties, sing-a-long, and movies. They would also take them out shopping. What this facility could improve on is their food. If the food is a little better, I would definitely give it a 5-star because, as far as the care goes, this facility is excellent.

We liked the people in Edenton. They're very nice. We looked at this community and they did have nice facilities and all that. They have a nice dining room. They offer flexibility of the meal plan, which I like. The staff was great. They're very friendly and very nice. They spent quite a bit of time with us explaining everything. I did saw one cottage that they have and I'm not actually happy about that. I like to be in a high-rise building with a balcony and a nice private outdoor space. During our visit, there were people visiting each other on their patios and I could see how that could be very nice social thing. However, I think I'm a little too private to have that all the time. The one-bedroom apartment that we saw had a very large bedroom. We loved the size of it. It also had a kitchen but it was small. I also liked that they have very good quality cabinets in the kitchen. They also have very nice appliances too. However, we want a two-bedroom-two-bath. Unfortunately, they don't have any available at that time. In fact, they didn't have one unit to show us. They said they could put us in their one-bedroom to start with, but we want two-bedroom right away. Otherwise, we have to be on their waiting list. Overall, this place was a good choice but I just had specifics of what I want that they don't have.

The Edenton Retirement Community is a gorgeous facility with friendly people and high spirits. I gave them three stars however because of what happened while my mother was staying there. She was staying there after consecutive falls while living alone. Our family decided to put her into Edenton Retirement Community "A Great Place to Hang Your Hat!" After about a month and I got the bill for her stay I noticed it was much higher then what we had signed up for because they made her/me pay almost 600 dollars a month for food. Also during one visit I went there to find her with a big bruise on her forehead from where she fell on their concrete. This was the exact reason we brought her here because we didn't want her getting hurt, but she did. After that i took her back home and she is now currently living with my sister.
