"My family has used home health aides from Home Instead over a period of 12 years for both companion and personal care and we are a third time repeat and very happy customer. A number of the same caring, competent, reliable and efficient caregivers who cared for my mother with compassion and respect as she coped with a serious illness from 2009 through 2014, and my father also during 2009 recovering from open heart surgery, were again available both in 2017 and now - 2021, to provide care for my father during his recovery from two additional surgeries. We have been very pleased with the stability, reliability and professional services provided by Home Instead on both a full time and part time basis. Home Instead has a stable cadre of professionals with consistent back-up capability. We have never been left without a caregiver, even on short notice. The ability to have some of the same caregivers over a period of many years has been reassuring and very comforting. Ella and Jenny have been wonderful with both my parents. And thanking Patty, Laura, Diana and their entire staff for their responsive and attentive customer service !"

"We have used Right at Home for my mother and stepfather for years. We started with a visiting helper and then moved up to inhome care almost 6 years ago, when my mother's dementia and lack of mobility became more problematic. I cannot say enough good things about their livein caregiver, Natoya, or the subs they provide when she is off. They are kind, attentive, and patient, and the office contacts us if they have concerns about our parents. My stepfather is extremely opinionated, stubborn, and picky, but he loves Natoya and so appreciates the care that she gives them."

I am Rebecca Bodor, proud owner of Homewatch CareGivers of Loudoun. My husband Tim and I are natives of Northern Virginia and its surrounding communities. We have enjoyed raising our family here and taking advantage of all that this area has to offer. I made the decision to be involved in work that provided a meaningful service and a way to give back to our community. Both Tim and I have experienced the struggles of finding the right home care for our families. In the 1990’s, Tim’s mother had the challenge of a husband with dementia. At that time, she felt there were no other options other than to put him in an institution. Ten years later while we were living abroad, Tim’s mother faced another challenge of having to struggle with cancer on her own, unable to find adequate in-home care before she passed away. I came into this business not only as an owner, but as a client. After my father had a stroke in 2015, my parents had to face the very difficult decisions that need to be made regarding aging and their care. The vast amount of information and resources out there can be overwhelming! We continue to experience the emotional toll this takes on a family and I understand the difficult task of choosing care for the people you love. I believe my personal experiences give me a unique understanding in how to provide a better service to our clients. Our guiding principle is to provide our clients with the kind of service that we would want for our own families. I understand how it feels to bring someone into your home when there is a need for professional care, and we make every effort to match our clients with the right caregiver. We strive to give our caregivers a great place to work, where they feel valued and part of our extended family. By doing so, we know our caregivers will extend those feelings to our clients. In 2019 we were proud to receive the distinguished Best of Home Care –Leader in Excellence Award from Home Care Pulse, the leading firm in quality assurance for home care. The Leader in Excellence Award is the highest recognition awarded by Home Care Pulse and is given to select home care businesses that consistently rank among the very highest in 10 or more quality metrics. Nationally recognized as a Leader in Excellence, Homewatch CareGivers of Loudoun is now ranked among the top echelon of home care providers participating in the nationwide Home Care Pulse Satisfaction Management Program.

"We worked with Always Best Care Loudoun for more than a year to take care of my 90-year-old mother with advancing dementia. I highly recommend their services for how flexible, kind, proactive and supportive they were. At first, we had someone come about 3 - 4 days a week for 5 hours/day. As my mom had more physical issues and falls, Always Best Care was very easy to work with in getting additional support, which ultimately ended up being 24/7 for several months. They provided companionship, advocacy, support and care at every step of the way. I'm a single parent so having someone who could be there when I couldn't toward the end of my mom's life was invaluable. My mom loved all of her caregivers and told them so daily. They laughed with her and shared life stories, took her to events, drove her to doctor's appointments, did laundry, prepared meals, and so much more. On more than one occasion, they would call me to let me know something had changed or that my mom needed a doctor or something else urgent, that I would not have known otherwise. They were truly a godsend when I needed it most. I really can't say enough good things about Always Best Care Loudoun."

"I cannot thank Jamie and Paragon Home Care enough for the help they provided my parents during their time of need. Both parents suddenly needed in home assistance and Jamie came for an initial visit less than 24 hours after my initial call. Within 48 hours of the call a kind, professional, competent caregiver was there to help my mom. 24 hours later, my father came home from the hospital and needed assistance and we increased, the number of hours immediately. As my parents slowly improved they worked with us to reduce the caregiver hours safely. Working with the Paragon group has been straight forward and incredibly easy. The caregivers were kind, arrived on time for every single visit, jumped in to help with sensitive bathing and cleaning needs, and adjusted their tasks as the needs changed. I cannot praise them enough for giving a concerned daughter peace of mind."

"I spoke with a total of 4 home care providers when looking for assistance with a loved one suffering from dementia/Alzheimer's and am so thankful for guidance provided by Home Instead. Within a couple mins of speaking to their VP of Marketing (Pam) I learned of her unique insight and passion for helping families deal with the scary inconsistencies of memory loss. To say she went above and beyond during what was essentially an emergency situation for my family is to sell her short - she personally filled gaps in the schedule to provide the respite I needed and was extremely conscientious about our loved one's experience with the caregivers. She also strongly advocated for a full time memory care facility (even though this meant we would only use her services for a short period of time), made recommendations for local ones she thought would be a good fit, and followed up with me personally after the transition to see how I was doing and how the transition went. If you are looking for in-home care in the Northern Virginia area, I strongly recommend starting with Home Instead Falls Church and using them as your comparison for any other organizations you might consider."

Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
Long-Term Care Insurance: Long-Term Care Insurance covers expenses related to senior care, including in-home care. Depending on the policy type, beneficiaries may receive a cash payment to use towards long-term care or reimbursement for qualifying long-term care expenses. Note that there are limitations- typically a maximum benefit of $150 per day- and exact coverage terms vary depending on the exact policy, so always check the details.
Medicare: Medicare does not cover in-home care because it is classified as custodial, or non-medical, care. However, some Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans, which offer expanded benefits, may cover in-home custodial care.
Medicaid: Medicaid coverage of in-home care varies between different states because it is not a federally mandated benefit. Currently, all states cover some in-home care either through their standard Medicaid or a waiver program. The specific coverage rules are set individually by each state.
Veterans’ Benefits: The Aid and Attendance benefit is a monthly cash payment that beneficiaries can use to pay for senior care, including in-home care services. To qualify for A&A, Veterans must already receive the VA pension and meet several additional requirements, including needing assistance with the activities of daily living.Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs to learn more.
Reverse Mortgages: Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECMs) are federally insured loans that are available to homeowners age 62 and over. Reverse mortgages allow you to access a portion of your home’s equity in cash, tax free. Many seniors use reverse mortgages to finance their care expenses, including in-home care. Note that although there are no monthly payments due on reverse mortgage loans, borrowers do have to repay the loan once the last surviving homeowner passes away, moves, or sells the home.
The wealth of resources available to seniors in Montgomery Village can make living at home more affordable and comfortable. These examples explain where seniors can go if they can’t make their own meals or struggle to meet heating and repair costs.

Accessible Homes for Seniors | This program provides interest-free loans for low-income adults aged 55+ with disabilities or infirmities who need to modify their homes. The maximum loan amount is 110% of the property's value and can only be used for modification purposes, such as widening doorways and installing first-floor bathrooms. Grants of up to $25,000 are also available for seniors ineligible for loans. |

Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed.
