"My mother-in-law moved to Providence Homes Plus and we chose it for her, because of its small size. We felt that it would be a better place for her. It is a converted home, so it has a nice and homey atmosphere. She is in the memory care and they have been very good at updating us and keeping us informed. They play cards and other games with the residents. They have them do holiday craft-type activities, too."

"My mom has been in Homestead of Topeka for three months now. She's in assisted living. It's a clean and very open place. They were nice when I talked to them. They were concerned. She is pleased with the food. She gets her hair done whenever she wants, and there is a person that clips and takes care of her toenails (which is nice). They go for rides to different places, and there's lots of different activities like bingo and singing. There are several activities. In fact, it's daily that there's some kind of activity."

"I liked that Topeka Presbyterian Manor was able to get my dad in fairly quickly. I didn't have to worry about the waiting list, even though we had kind of a pending Medicaid process and there was some question about whether or not he could get fully qualified and what his liability was going to be, they went ahead and brought us in and were able to make sure that he would be in a higher level of care than where he was staying. My dad is kind of set at more of a soft type meal and he seemed to think it's OK. Then they have all your standard rec-type services. They try to encourage a lot of social activities, but my dad just chooses not to participate in them. The staff has been excellent, too. It's extremely expensive to stay in that facility so I would highly recommend that you get everything in line as far as Medicare, Medicaid, or any other long-term insurance, and all that kind of stuff laid out in advance (maybe a couple of years in advance) and just kind of be prepared. It's in the range of $400 a day and that would be pretty exorbitant if you didn't have some type of Social Security or some other type of payment that you could tap into."

"My dad is in rehab at McCrite Plaza Topeka. They seem to be pretty happy people and easy to get along with. 24 hours a day. The place is clean. It seems like they care for the residents. The rooms are decorated, friendly, and carpeted. They are warm in the winter and cool during the summer. However, right now, they're not running too many activities because of the virus."

"We really like Legend, but they didn't have a registered nurse at night, and that was the problem for us because my mom needed that extra care for her diabetes. The staff was really nice. They took me to the garden area where they can go and sit. The facility is only 5 years old, so everything is nice, pretty, new, and up-to-date; however, we found out later that we can't go there. "

"I was very impressed with the friendliness of the staff at this facility. I was almost an hour late to my appointment which had been scheduled to overlap the lunch hour so I could taste the food. My guide was very gracious and forgiving and they had kept a plate hot for me despite my tardiness. (The food is also quite tasty - I had turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, peas, a roll, and cake with iced-tea and water.) This is a smaller facility in a slightly older building in a less-developed, nearly-rural, residential area of Topeka. It has 30 apartments and has several very independent residents who still drive, own pets, or hold part-time jobs, while others require much more care. The staff seemed very personable and friendly, and seemed to be much more genuinely and personally engaged with the residents than in some of the facilities I have visited (particularly larger ones). While I was there, there was lots going on. The residents were finishing lunch when I arrived, and then several visited with one resident and her Cairn Terrier. After that, another residents two kids and five grandkids arrived for a visit and spent some time in the main common area. As they were leaving, another woman and her son brought one of their seven 6-week-old puppies to see the residents. Everyone really seemed to enjoy having so much going on. I would definitely recommend this facility, but it might not be the best option for those residents with very high care needs. "

"My sister is in Countryside Health Center. It looks like a mental hospital. That's what it reminds me of. It smells OK. The one thing that bothers my sister is that the mental people because she is afraid of them. She is in a semi-private room. It is very small. They need to improve on the activities. There isn't as much here; it doesn't seem to be. "

"This is a lovely facility with truly wonderful people and a wonderful atmosphere. It is, by far, the most friendly, warm, and welcoming facility among the nearly thirty I have visited. I was met at the door by one of the owners, who personally took me through several resident activities in progress to meet with the director of marketing. He spent a great deal of time with me, showing me several different floorplans in both the Assisted Living, the Independent Living, and even the Skilled Nursing sections of the property. My guide was extremely warm and genuine, and really seemed to love his job and the residents. As I mentioned, there were several resident activities going on when I arrived. Nearly a dozen residents had gathered in the common room for "Fireside Chats" led by a volunteer from town. Several others were playing a Wii game in another area, and still more were playing cards. I saw a small army of staff members, each of whom had a big, genuine grin and several were leading residents by the hand or playing games with them. I was truly impressed by the atmosphere in this facility, which is probably a result of their focus on resident-centred care. In addition to the great atmosphere, The facility was very open, bright, and clean. Its current decor is a bit dated, but my guide showed me a section that had been remodelled, and even the one in which workers were tearing up the floor and replacing fixtures during my visit. Furthermore, the setting and location and idyllic. The facility is located in a smaller town in rural Kansas, but the town has a vibrant feel, and is extremely well-maintained and manicured throughout. The facility itself is surrounded on a couple of sides by agricultural land (soybean fields, I think). It has a very large lawn which surrounds a small pond and has a path with shade trees and a few benches. In addition to the front green space, there are several smaller flower gardens tucked away throughout the property. Overall, this is a beautiful facility, well-run, and my favourite so far. "

"I went to Neuvant House Of Lawrence. The facilities were extremely nice. They have both assisted living and memory care, but they're in two separate units. I didn't specify when I made the appointment, so they took me to both. I didn't spend very much time in the assisted living because I wasn't interested in that facility. It was understaffed. The physical facilities were much better than the other facility. They had five people for 16 residents, and they said that their normal staffing would be 10. If they're fully staffed, they would have 10, and they were not fully staffed. Because they were so short, some of the activities were being done by outside contractors. The food was good, but it's scheduled. There are two-hour windows and they're not available 24/7, but there are some snacks available in-between times. People can schedule haircuts and hair appointments and things like that, so they do have the facilities, but they don't have people there to do it. The people that were there were doing a great job. They were very caring with the people, and were watching the people and could tell when somebody needed assistance and that kind of thing. The people that were there were doing a very good job, but they were understaffed."

"est place ever. Looked at several places in Lawrence to take care of my dad after having a terrible experience at a big nursing home. This is the only place I would put someone. Not a nursing home. The staff tries so hard and the managers care. More staff than any place by far. unfortunately, we had to learn this the hard way because we went to a big fancy place that cost more first, thinking Dad would actually do regular activities. BridgeHaven does karaoke and has barbecues and sits with their clients by the pond and feeds the fish. He has been so happy here. I can't say enough good things about it and everyone there. "My mother is in Pioneer Ridge. They have an excellent staff. The neighborhood is very nice. It is a beautiful place. They also have an assisted living portion. It is one of their many aspects. It has a little bit of everything. "

"We liked Monterey Village Senior Living because it is newer and it is on the north side of town. It is not surrounded by other buildings. It is a tiny bit in the country, and my parents lived all their lives in the country. We thought that they would much prefer a view of some farm grounds and trees, rather than just being surrounded by buildings. They are in a double room with a separate bedroom. It is spacious. The staff is top-notch. They are caring and very willing to listen to us with our concerns. They seem very professional and willing to do whatever they need to for the best care for my parents. The food is good, and I am a little surprised with that. It was some sort of chicken with a cream sauce on the top. Then there was noodles and green beans. Quite frankly, I was a little concerned that the chicken might be dry, but it wasn't. It was wonderful. Any time we have gone into the building, you can just smell the food being prepared. It just smells very good."
