My mother is still in Homestead of Shawnee. It's the same assisted living that she was in before. She had to go to the hospital over Christmas, and the facility has improved since then. Originally, I did not like it because there were so many things going on that weren't right. I felt like she wasn't getting very good care, but they've finally gotten people that will stay and continue running the place. She's happier with it now, and so am I. She's in a two-room apartment. It has a bedroom and a sitting room and it's separate. It has a large bathroom and a large closet where you can store things. That's one thing I really like about the place, and all the rooms are like that. Maintenance and upkeep could be better. It takes quite a long time for them to fix things, like if there's a light bulb out. Right now, she has a towel ring that's in the bathroom that fell off the wall, and it's still not fixed, and I've put in request twice. The food has improved quite a bit. My mom seems to be more willing to go to the dining room now and be social there. They always have bingo, and they have people coming in now. When they had the COVID, things just shut down, and then they have to build it back up again. They have a bible study, discussion groups, and a happy hour on Fridays. They don't have a van to take people anywhere, although she can't really go. If it's available for other people, I think that would be a big plus. The best thing about it to me is the room. It's big and you have room for some furniture and a nice little bedroom in there, and plenty of closet space in the rooms. The bathroom's big, but the shower is not. If anything, I'd change that shower and make it to a full size shower. It's kind of like a shower stall right now. It's close to my home, which I really like, and I like the availability of it. It's very close to I-435 and Midland Drive. It makes it easy to get places with her. I would improve the activities. There's not that much going on there and they don't take them anywhere. For what you pay there, it seems like you should get more, but then all of those facilities are so expensive. It's definitely gotten better. They have improved quite a bit with their staffing mostly, and keeping help. They have improved a lot since I first put her there. Some of the staff are really, really good now, and the ones that have stayed have really been nice to her and improved. She said the food is good. They've really improved the facilities, too. They've tried to really make it homier. Except for the person coming in to fix little things, they pretty much keep the area up.

My mother has been in Homestead of Shawnee for about 5 months. At first I was pleased with the facility, but since then the staff has all turned over. Some of the aides that work there are sweet, but we have had difficulty communicating with the nurse and director. They have a program where the group of doctors and PA's visit the patients there. Sounds good but there again, the communications are not great. We have also had trouble getting anything fixed in the rooms. They don't always pick up the trash or clean the rooms like they are supposed to. I am disappointedf!

Shawnee Heartland is a very nice and clean place. I like the fact that everything is on one level and not on multiple levels. Even though it's assisted living, there are some individuals that need a little more mobility assistance, and there's potential additional risk if they're on multiple floors and if they have to evacuate due to fire or inclement weather. The only complaint that I've had for Mom was sometimes the vegetables aren't tender enough for a person who doesn't have any teeth to chew, but other than that, everybody's nice. They have a lot of activities, exercise programs, a game room that they can play cards or board games, movie nights, and visiting musicians.

My father was a resident here for 9 mos. and I was very pleased with all aspects of his care. The staff was very professional and went out of their way to make their facility a "homey" , clean and safe environment. There were 3 meals a day and daily activities. My Dad needed to gain weight and the cook went out of her way to fix what my Dad wanted and give in between "fattening" shakes! I appreciate all they did for my Dad and would not hesitate to recommend it to others in need of an Assisted Living place.

My mom is in Shawnee Heartland. It is a nice clean place. She has her own one-bedroom apartment. They serve three meals a day. They have crafts and activities. The staff comes in her apartment every day. They clean, change the sheets, and do all the laundry.

Me and my family just recently visited Heartland Assisted Living in Shawnee, Kansas. We were pleased wit the cleanliness of the hallways and entrances. There were maintenance problems going on at the time which is a bad thin. The bedrooms werenot very modern. Some of them looked as though they havent been touched or upgraded since the 90's. The bathrooms were also not taken care of well enough to my Grandmothers standards. There were cleaning supplies left in one, and whewe were relocated to use anothr bathroom the toilet was broken in that one. Bad 1st impression, we passed on this facility. We are currently checking on better living conditins and we wont settle until we can find somewhere much better for a long-term stay for my Grandmother

My grandmother lives at Heartland Assisted Living. I vist there very often and I love it. Heartland really makes their residence feel like they are at home. A lot of my friends often say they dislike the Assisted Living places they have visted, but I have never thought that about Heartland. The workers are incredible, they are very friendly and polite. My grandmother loves the workers and is very close to some of the ladies that work there. It makes me feel very good to know that my grandmother is truely enjoying herself at Heartland. One of my favorite things about Heartland is their menus and activites. They have tons of choices in both food and activities. My grandmother loves being able to have so many choices. I love the set up of Heartland, the grounds are very beautifuly kept. My grandmother loves her place, all the rooms have an open floor plan, making it easier for seniors to get around, the decor is also very attractive. Heartland is truly amazing, this is not my grandmothers first Assisted Living place, but she is determined to make it her last. Everyone I have met at Heartland loves visiting and living there. I don't think there is any better place for assisted living than at Heartland!
