"Oak Park is phenomenal!. I’m speaking as one who has a loved one in the facility, and I have researched until I was blue in the face to find somewhere that was a mix of the things she needed, and what she could afford. Katy area senior living is very very expensive. Hands down, this place has the most bang for the buck in the Katy area, and if you are considering a home for yourself or for a senior in your life, PLEASE go see for yourself how nice it is. Although they do not provide nursing assistance, the residents are able to bring in their own helpers, or can use the company that the apartments work with. A lot of the residents use helpers to provide safety with bathing, ext. First off, the staff is also exceptional, all of them. They are all extremely caring, talkative, and accommodating to all the residents and their guests alike. I’m there a lot, as my mom is in a wheelchair, and I take care of all her needs. She has lived there 8 months now, and I have never had a interaction than was anything less than top notch. Second, it’s all bills paid, and all meals are included, and prepared by an actual chef! They are REALLY good, and they encourage other family members to come eat with the residents (it’s only $8, less than the cost of a fast food lunch!) There is also weekly housekeeping and bed linen changes, transportation to doctor appointments twice a week, and ACTIVITIES every day. The activity director is full of energy, and she works her tail off to keep things interesting. My mother has made so many new friends, and again, the residents that live there embrace newcomers with open arms. Everyone is genuinely friendly, not “fake friendly”, as I have seen at other places. The bottom line is this, once you have most of your daily needs taken care of, and you are in a stimulating environment with people that you come to call family, life is happy! There is so much more that I am not mentioning, you really have to see for yourself, take a tour, and find out the abundance of “extras” for yourself. "

"My mom and dad moved here in November last year. It was very close to where we live. The whole staff was very friendly and caring. They were in a two-bedroom apartment, which was small, but they both seemed to be okay with that. Food was very good. My dad had to move into another facility for memory care because of dementia, so mom had to move back into their home. "

"I moved to The Abbey of Westminster, and so far I'm very, very happy. Everybody is very friendly. The food is very good. It's very convenient. All the people are smiling. Everybody seems to be happy, and nobody's complaining. They have real nice size apartments. I have a one-bedroom with a flex room. It has a full kitchen (if you want to use it), refrigerator, dishwasher, washer and dryer in the bathroom, and a walk-in closet to hold all my clothes. I didn't look at any other place because I watched The Abbey for six years, when they first started six years ago. I told my wife at the time that we should move there. They offer everything that a person can do. It seems like there's something every hour of every day. On one specific day each week, they have an outing that they go someplace. They have a concierge. I have paid parking on the inside, and the outside you don't have to pay for it. They provide transportation to the doctor, to Kroger's, and for everything you need. It's more than adequate. I have once a week, an hour and a half of room maintenance or room cleaning. They make my bed. They pick up things. They're very, very cautious. They don't move your personal items that you have laying out. It's extremely private. For activities, they've got water aerobics every day. Once a week, they have online dancing classes and physical exercises done by video. They've got a 24-seat theater with big, comfortable black chairs. They have a movie every night at 7:00. They have the same chef that they've had for six years. They operate just like a restaurant. He changes his menu weekly. The menu comes up printed every week. It's also very, very flexible as to what you can order. There are side orders that you can order in place of those that are on the menu. Some people who are here were residents at other places, and they moved to The Abbey primarily because of the food flexibility. I know that there are places that are way more reasonable, but provide nothing other than maybe meals and a place to sleep. This is not a buy-in. There are places that are buy-ins that may have equal money value after the buy-in. They allow my dog. I have a pension and because I have Social Security, it does not cost me a lot out of my savings on a monthly basis because everything is included. They include the cable television. They can keep you busy every hour from 9:00 in the morning until 10:00 at night. The movie starts at 7:00 and goes to 10:00. They have the bible study and transportation to churches. For those people who don't want to get out, they have recordings of the different church services that are held on Sunday mornings. They show them during the daytime on Sunday."

"Atria Westchase is very professional and very helpful. Everything is immaculate. It's not real fancy, but it's very, very clean, and up to date. I have a little studio apartment and there's lots of grab bars for assistance. There are activities all day such as exercise classes, bingo, and other games. There's also a nice outdoor area with lots of porches where you can sit out. The grounds are very pretty. They have it landscaped usually and it's very accessible to a really nice porch that overlooks the ground. The food could be a little better, but I think it's probably on par for a large community. We have assigned seats and it's prepared very well. It's served hot and served from a menu. I just prefer a lot more fresh vegetables and fresh fruits."

"Aurora Living is a personal care home. It was nice. It was clean. It was fine. The rooms were nice. They're okay. The staff who toured us around kind of manages the place, and her name is Nikki. She was nice. She was very informative. I think she said they provide three meals a day and maybe snacks."

"The Plaza at The Buckingham was probably the Taj Mahal. They have given my brother the ultimate care. They were in that room constantly checking on him, taking care of him, and keeping the facility so clean and nice. The food was good. It was just an unbelievable experience. He's very sick, so he didn't enjoy too many things, but he loved doing the physical therapy. It kind of got him out of his room. I liked the camaraderie. The people being so concerned, sweet, nice, and caring. He did go to the 10-year anniversary of the facility. They had bands, harpists, and different people playing music on each floor. It was quite an event, and it was his birthday that day; so that was something really extraordinary because he had not been getting out of his room. We took him out to give him a little party in his room. Then he went to experience all that on the different floors with his family and that was just wonderful. "

"My parents have already been in The Village of Tanglewood for three years now. They like where they are. It's "grade A" all the way. It's very, very nice and a great place. They have people who come in and sing at Christmastime, they play bingo, and there's a calendar of events on display, like in the elevator, and it tells you what's going on throughout the day. They also have a recreation room, a swimming pool, and a fitness center, and they do special things during Easter, Memorial Day, and all that."

"I took three tours here. Overall, I was very impressed with the fact that it is kind of small and intimate. You get more of a feeling of a family or a home. It's not big. I got to meet most of the staff that would be caring for my client, and I was very impressed with them. They were all very friendly. There are very few residents there right now, and they seem to interact with them on a one-on-one basis. The rooms are not that large, but they're very nice. The bathrooms are very well equipped with very large showers, which makes it easier to assist somebody with their bathing. They have a wonderful common area living room-type setting, and then a dining room where there's a full-sized refrigerator and snacks for the residents at all times. The first time I went there, a couple of the residents were finishing their lunch meals, but I was told that the caregivers eat their meals with the residents, so it's more like a sit-down family-type meal setting, and I was very impressed with that. If they needed physical therapy, they have that available, too. They have a salon and a gym area that the residents can use. They have several large common areas. There's a balcony area where you can sit outside. It's a relatively new place, so everything is nice, fresh, and new. All the staff were available to answer questions that I had."

"A Life Saver Assisted Living is an affordable way for us to be able to put our mom to be taken care of by specialized people. The staff was great. Thomas was great. It's a three-bedroom house and it's well taken care of. The environment is friendly. The rooms were OK, not big and not small."

"I toured Emerson Pines and I liked the location of it. It's very close to my work. The apartment the gentleman showed me was very nice. It's a one-bedroom apartment. He didn't show me much of the complex and I'm going to go back to see a two-bedroom just to compare and to see what else they have. It's an older facility, but it was clean. They have a place you can sit with a little putting green."

"I visited The Village of Southampton about six weeks ago. I liked the fact that they had three levels of care, independent living, assisted living, and memory care. It's all in one building. It's a high-rise building. They had activities for the people who live there. Everything was provided. They give you a list of activities for the whole month. Everything looked perfect. Everything was perfect. I saw an apartment, the dining room, the different rooms where they have activities, and I saw the vehicle that carries the people wherever they want to go. I talked to a couple of the residents, and they seem to be happy there. The staff who showed me around was very professional. I didn't try the food and seeing the menus, it looked very good. And they will take care of special diets."

"I was very impressed at The Village of River Oaks. I went to see their memory care. Everything was bright. Everybody seemed active and doing things, and the atmosphere was just nice. The staff was excellent, and the rooms were very nice. The location, for me, is excellent. It's just right down the street. I can walk to it. "

"My friend moved to the Village on The Park Steeplechase. We absolutely love the cottages. They are one- and two-bedrooms and they have their own garage and carport, which is really awesome. If you don't use your carport, you can set up lawn chairs and stuff like that, which is really neat for the residents. It's gated and all the residents out there are out and about. It's all inclusive. All the meals are included and that's awesome too. As my friend progresses with her age, she won't have to pay a transfer fee. It's also located around where her son lives and her church is, and that was the other big factor, honestly, the location. Most of the other facilities don't have cottages as well and she didn't want to be in an apartment building. It was the most economical of everything in Houston. You get the most bang for your buck and they all offer basically the same services. The meals are good. The place smells really good. It doesn't smell like a nursing home. They have a beauty/barber salon, bible studies, games, an ice cream parlor, and nail salon. They have someone that cleans their room for free. It's all included. They have a little thing that you wear around your neck and that goes in the shower or wherever you are, and you can push that 24 hours a day and someone will come. It doesn't matter if you're independent living or not, and that's huge. It's a really good set up."
