The Best Independent Living Communities in Brazoria County, TX

"My brother is going to move into Atria Sugar Land. It was nice. You could get two rooms, which have become like a small apartment, almost. You could get one pretty good-sized room, and it was nice, too. Then they also have a smaller room. My brother chose the middle room. He thought the size of it was good, and the location of it was very good, too. We stayed there for lunch, and he really liked the food. There's a little refrigerator in the room. Of course, you can't bring a hot pad or anything like that in there. What surprised me was that you can't take an air fryer oven in there because it gets pretty hot. It could cause a fire, so I can understand that. They serve three meals a day. The lady was very nice and helpful. She gave little tips and all that. She seems to care a lot about the people who are there. They probably have 60 rooms or something, and so it's a medium-sized one. It's not really big like the other place. My brother likes that it wasn't quite as big, but it still was big enough that it has plenty of daily activities for the residents. The lady wasn't pushy or anything like that, but she made sure that she told you as much as she could about the place. The building was lovely. She even showed us apartments that people were still moving out of, so we saw a nice variety of places. We saw how clean it was for the residents. My brother would be on the second floor, but they have an elevator. There are more people and more activities."

"At Greatwood, they have very nice people but the facility was completely inappropriate for my mother. My mother requires a sling to get out of bed but they would not allow the sling in the assisted living side. We didn't see any activity when we visited, because it was during lunch time. I would give this facility a 5 if you don't need skilled nursing. "

"My wife and I visited Landon Ridge Sugar Land. The people and the place were very good. They showed us all the amenities and the things that they have. The finances seemed to be reasonable. The only thing I didn't like about was the landscaping didn't seem to be too good, but it was during this time of the year when everything was brown and nothing was green yet. So, that may explain it, but generally, I was favorably impressed. They have all kinds of activities. They have a good exercise room. The people were very friendly. The dining room and menu looked very good and the situation concerning the meals seemed to be very good. That was something that I liked."

"I love St. Dominic Village. It's wonderful and everything you could expect. They provide activities and three meals a day, and I have independence to do what I want. The food is great, and it's made by Luby's cafeteria. The staff is great. It's an older community at over 30 years old, but they maintain things very well."

"I toured Chesapeake Bay, and I loved it. They had everything. The sizes of the places were nice-sized and they had single ones that had a garage. They had a tower, a bar, and a mini golf. They had a shuffleboard and a heated pool. Everybody was so nice. I wanted to live there so badly, but I just couldn't afford it. The staff showed me around. She's incredible. She's friendly, helpful, and very professional."

"The Village of Southampton was stunning. The views there are tremendous. You can see the whole city and can see downtown. The location is in the Rice Village at Rice University. There's a whole bunch of shops there. As long as we're able bodied, we can walk a mile or two. There's a lot of places that are within walking distance. That's the strong point of that one. The views are awesome. It's like 18 stories (or something like that), and all the apartments are just gorgeous. We've been there twice. They have exercise rooms, a swimming pool, and a lounge on the top floor. You could buy alcohol, snack foods, sandwiches, and stuff. The view is like drop dead gorgeous. There's an outside balcony that goes halfway around the building. It's stunning. The food was excellent. This is the best place in town."

"Can’t say enough about the amazing level of care these wonderful staff provided our dear mother who lived at the residence the final year of her life. Mom had suffered strokes and needed enhanced attentiveness that our family couldn’t provide. We toured the facility and were immediately impressed and felt at ease. After she was accepted we always felt peace of mind knowing that she was cared for by the staff the same as they would take care of their own."

"I chose The Terrace at West University because of its location. It's near the things that I would like to do. The staff was very good. The rooms were very adequate. I ate there, and the food was good. They had activities like classes and outings to movies and places. "

"I toured the Hampton at Post Oak. Their rooms were nice and the people there are really friendly. They actually helped me find a hospice for mom. It's also closer to my house. It just so happened that it didn't work for us because when it was time to move my dad to an assisted living, they didn't have the room with a big bath available. Dad uses an electric scooter and he can't walk, so he needs a bigger bathroom. "

"I visited The Waterford. I was very impressed with them. I saw the dining room, and it seemed very nice. I saw some people in the puzzle room sitting together. There were a few people sitting in the dining room just visiting, and there were one or two people sitting in the lounge area. Those were about the only activities I saw. "

"The Village of River Oaks was beautiful. My uncle commented on the dining room because that was one of the areas that we walked near as we were getting to the offices. They had chandeliers in there, and for him, it was fancier than what he might do on his own. He was looking at the costs based on the amenities that they had. The pool would be something he would never use. They had a lot available, but they weren't activities that he would necessarily engage in. The staff was great. They answered all of his questions."

"It was probably the Taj Mahal. They have given my brother the ultimate care. They were in that room constantly checking on him, taking care of him, and keeping the facility so clean and nice. The food was good. It was just an unbelievable experience. He's very sick, so he didn't enjoy too many things, but he loved doing the physical therapy. It kind of got him out of his room. I liked the camaraderie. The people being so concerned, sweet, nice, and caring. He did go to the 10-year anniversary of the facility. They had bands, harpists, and different people playing music on each floor. It was quite an event, and it was his birthday that day; so that was something really extraordinary because he had not been getting out of his room. We took him out to give him a little party in his room. Then he went to experience all that on the different floors with his family and that was just wonderful."

"My first choice is Village of Tanglewood. The facility was really good, and the rooms were really nice. The lady who toured me around was very friendly. They didn't feed me at all, but it was a typical dining room. It was the best that I saw because it appeared to be brand new. The rooms were about what I expected."

"My brother is in Atria Westchase. I like the staff, the cleanliness, the size of the rooms, and the exceptional food. They seem very engaged with the patients, very caring, and very willing to answer when I have questions. If I have any complaints, they check in to it. They offer activities, like any other assisted living center, like games, exercise, and stuff like that. They provide trips outside the community for men and women such as an opportunity to go shopping once a week. The neighborhood is upper-middle-class. I guess the only negative is that it is within a very busy street. If someone walked out onto the street, there can be a bad outcome. They have a memory care unit, which is locked, but the assisted living side is not. My brother is very happy there. "
