Independent Living Communities in Sugar Land, TX

"My ex-spouse is a resident of the independent living of The Delaney at Parkway Lakes. The community is wonderful, I've actually given a referral to a friend who just moved her mom in there. I like this place so much. We have reviewed four communities and out of the four, this one was really the best. The staff was wonderful in accommodating his needs and keeping an open line of communication between them. I will specially give accolades to Dakota Lake, who was wonderful. Some of the activities he does there are backgammon, dominoes, concerts that they bring in, and a media room with a big-screen TV. They also have groups come in to do magic shows, and he does all of those activities. My daughter went there to take him out on Father's Day, but he didn't want to go out and wanted her to eat there with him because the food there is great. They have a menu and white table cloths, so it's not just eating a meal, it's dining. He loves the food there so much. It's a brand-new community at about a year and a half or two years old, so it's nice. I would rate the value for the money a 5 because what they give him and what he's utilizing is superior. He's taking advantage of a lot of things that's available to him while other residents don't do that."

"The Plaza at The Buckingham is very good and nice. There are a lot of facilities, but the place is very expensive. The rooms are nice and very good. The dining area is very well-done, nice, and has a lot of light. They have a lot of activities there. They have physical therapy. There's a library. "

"Oak Park Retirement Resort was more like a hotel. The main reason we didn't choose them was because they didn't have nursing staff available. It was great, but it's not the place we needed for my parents. The apartments were very nice and new, they're even nicer than my parents' current room now. But there's no way to get outside from the room. The place was great but it's not what we needed. The food looked really good there, and the cafeteria was great. It's a clean place, it's nice and the people we talked to were nice. I didn't like that they didn't have a nurse on staff and no courtyard."

"We went to The Tradition - Woodway this morning. It was very clean. The staff was very friendly, and seemed to know quite a bit about it. They have a swimming pool, a hair salon, a man's Cave with billiards, a golf simulator, a library, a workout room, and a craft room. We stopped at one of the informal snack areas. We saw the dining room. There was no food preparation going on at the time. It looked like a restaurant. The Tradition seems kind of sterile."

"Brookdale Memorial City had models where you could see the single and double rooms already furnished, which I liked. Their prices were cheaper. We ate at their place and their food was awesome. The staff and everybody that we met was great. They have a little place, a bistro, where you can order sandwiches."

"I loved Atria Cinco Ranch. It was very modern and very welcoming. The accommodations were lovely. The people were cheerful. They offered to help us even if we chose another facility. I liked that they had a game area on each floor with a table for people to play puzzles or play bridge. They had a nice restaurant, a movie room, a pool, and a garden area where the residents worked. It was a very nice campus. They gave me a pie fresh from the oven when I left."

"I am a resident of The Village of Tanglewood. There isn't anything to dislike. The food is outstanding, the staff is very nice, and the facility is extremely nice. There's just nothing to complain about. It is very, very nice and everything is kept very well. They have a gym with all sorts of equipment. They have a swimming pool, a movie room, and two or three other rooms that are used for various things, including games that people want to play. They have a dining room, and they also have a mail room. They have a beauty and barber salon, but it's not owned by them. I've been to it one time and it's too expensive to attend. The food is outstanding. The dining room is very nice. It's large and very nice with white tablecloths and a very polite staff. They have card games and lots of movies. They have everything, as far as I can tell. It's very expensive, but I've heard that are other places are more expensive. I chose this one mostly because it's two blocks from my church and they will take me to church."

"Brookdale Galleria was very nice, but it looked like everybody there was very crippled, and I’m not in that shape yet. PLus, it was very expensive. I wouldn’t mind staying there, but it seemed like everybody was in so much worse shape physically than I was and it was depressing to me. I found the facility to be very nice, but they didn't include a washer and dryer in the apartment. The staff seemed very nice. The dining room was beautiful, and the people seemed to like it. They seemed to be social and dressed up really nicely, and I don’t want to have to do that. It didn’t look like the place for me. I didn’t fit in. "

"We thought The Tradition-Buffalo Speedway was very nice. The employees there were all very nice. It was light and bright. We ate lunch there, and the food was very good. The apartment seemed nice, clean, and a good size."

"It was located in the part of the town where it's easy to get to. I liked that their staff was welcoming and thorough. I loved just the bright and modern look of it, lots of open air, green spaces, and places to gather. But they didn't have the bars down the hall and the building was 8 stories high. I met some of the residents there and they were friendly. They had good activities going."

"I am a resident of Solea Cinco Ranch. It's just an amazing community. The people and the apartments are great. If you go shopping and you have all your bags in your trunk, there are grocery carts underneath the steps here so that you can put your stuff in the cart, take it to your apartment, and then drop it off. That's huge. The garages are only $150 and the covered roof is $30, so everything is reasonable. The maintenance is awesome. The place is like a U-shape, the main building is at the bottom of the U, and the living spaces are on the opposite side of the U, and if you live inside of the U, it's stupendous, and your yard is unbelievably beautiful. It's a small apartment, but there are two beds in the one bedroom. We usually cook our own food, but for Thanksgiving, they had a dinner for everybody and it was awesome. You felt like you belonged to something. For anybody who needs an apartment, I would recommend it. But they could do a little better on the gym."

"My brother is in Brookdale West University, and it’s fantastic. When I saw that, I said I wanna go there. I am very impressed with it, and he is too. It looked like an actual apartment; it has lots of big walking closets, a nice size bathroom, and an actual kitchen. It’s very clean, nice, and wonderful. They have all kinds of stuff, and they have speakers come in. They take them to different places, the library is right down the street, and they have a list of things to do almost every day. "

"The Village of Southampton was stunning. The views there are tremendous. You can see the whole city and can see downtown. The location is in the Rice Village at Rice University. There's a whole bunch of shops there. As long as we're able bodied, we can walk a mile or two. There's a lot of places that are within walking distance. That's the strong point of that one. The views are awesome. It's like 18 stories (or something like that), and all the apartments are just gorgeous. We've been there twice. They have exercise rooms, a swimming pool, and a lounge on the top floor. You could buy alcohol, snack foods, sandwiches, and stuff. The view is like drop dead gorgeous. There's an outside balcony that goes halfway around the building. It's stunning. The food was excellent. This is the best place in town."

"It was amazing and the lady who gave us the tour was very helpful. They had a wonderful dining room, a chef who prepared their meals, and a guest room for family members when they come in from out of town where they can actually have lunch or dinner with you. If you don't want what's on the menu, they had a separate menu for sandwiches. They also had a little grocery store and pharmacy, washers, dryers, and craft room in the apartment complex. Their apartments were amazing."
