"I never would have believed that the care my stepdad has received from the Van Duzer home was possible. We moved my dad from another well known and larger facility that I thought was giving him a good quality life but as his condition progressed they were unable to provide him with the level of care he required. Brian and Donna welcomed him and treated him like family from the first moment he set foot in their home. He is pampered. They keep him clean, trimmed, and comfortable. They have a calm, fun nature and the caregivers they hire are the same. The food is gourmet, organic, fragrant and healthy. The home is impeccably clean. The rooms are large. My stepdad is very happy. Donna and Brian's attention to details makes my stepdad's day enjoyable and fun. Their sense of humor is infectious. He has lost unwanted weight, and overall health and mood greatly improved. What a blessing! Words cannot express the deep gratitude we have for the Van Duzer home. Their fee was comparable to his former home but the family atmosphere Donna and Brian create is priceless."

"What I liked is that the rooms were nice, big, and bright. The one room that we looked at in particular had a nice little outdoor patio. The staff seemed to know everybody by their first names and I liked that. They were also kind enough to spend time with me answering all my questions. They really seemed to respect the residents. They care for them a lot and they wanted the residents to have much stimulation within the day. There were a lot of things going on there. We did see various activities as they were happening. They also have a vegetable garden that the residents were working on which was also very nice."

"Meadowview assisted living facility is the best place that I personally think is perfect for my mother. Earlier my mom did not like the idea of living in a assisted living facility, even I did not quite approve of it but later on I felt that she was indeed getting lonely and there was not much people to take proper care of her, but when we arriver at Meadowview Assisted Living at The Wartburg Adult Care Community we were astonished to see their hospitality and the place felt kinda homey . The only thing I would complain would be that it is a bit more costly that the others but it seems to be worth it as they have excellent nursing staff as well as excellent medical amenities. They most appreciable thing is that as compared to other assisted living facilities they allow us to keep out pets , my mom loved it she had two cats which were close to her heart and they let her keep it too. So overall I wonderful experience there and would recommend it to everyone else. "

"Riverwalk is the Hebrew Home's Independent Living Facility. On balance, it is probably one of the best values in the Bronx/Westchester area. The staff is excellent, especially Katy and Regina who run the place. The rooms are ok, it is an older converted apt bldg so don't expect a modern look/feel (although the apts are all renovated as needed). The windows are old/heavy and the heating system is not easily controllable or modern. The food is good, not bad ... not excellent either ... and it's Kosher. There is a definite slant towards Jewish heritage, culture, and ethnicity. In my Mom's case, this is one thing that was very important to her. There are daily activities, transportation to local shopping and doctors (only in the immediate area), and two meals daily included. However, in my mind ... the best feature of the facility is the staff. If you are looking for a facility where the staff becomes like family to you, where the staff knows not only the tenant's name, but your name also ... if you are looking for a homey place where everyone from the maintenance staff to the security guards are extremely friendly, kind and treat you like family ... than this is the place for your loved one. So prioritize your needs, and decide what is important to you. If having a homey, friendly environment where you are treated like family is important, consider Riverwalk."

"Bethel Health Care is a very nice facility, it is clean and the people who are there seem very well cared for. My grandmother has been there for six months now and has had no complaints other then the food, but she is an amazing cook and is never happy with any one elses food, including her own daughters. The staff is well trained, polite, caring and very involved in all the goings on at the facility. The facility offers free wifi and cable in each room and we also have the option for expanded cable and a box if we choose to pay for it. Over all Bethel is a very nice place and I would recamend it to any one looking for an assisted living facility "

"I really liked Villa St. Francis. It was very clean and nice. Every floor had a living room and a kitchen. I liked the size of the bedrooms. It didn’t feel like you're in a nursing home. One thing I really liked about the place was the dining room. You didn’t have people waiting on you. You get your own lunch, and they have a great, big salad bar. I think it gave people a feeling of not being so dependent on other people. I would highly recommend this place to anybody. The place was absolutely gorgeous."

"We visited here. My husband still needs some skilled nursing care. They said they could provide it because he is getting better every day. It's beautiful. Everything is brand new. It's only been open for a year. Everything is so beautiful and clean, new, and modern. It's very nice. The staff was very nice, very polite, showed me everything, and answered all my questions. They had an exercise class going on at that time. The rooms were nice sized and big enough to bring your own furniture."

"I moved into Kendal Hudson nine and half years ago. I feel very comfortable here. It's a continuing care community, so they have different levels of care. I'm in the independent living. Several years ago, I had surgery. I had to be in the nursing unit, and it was very comfortable because my friends could come to visit. It's been a comfortable place. I have a 1-bedroom apartment with a living room, a balcony, a full kitchen, a bedroom, and a bathroom. The food is very good. For the independent living, the residents plan the activities with whatever it is they're interested in. In the assisted living, they hire activities people to plan activities. But for independent living, it's up to the residents to set up their own association and their own activity planning. "

"New Windsor Senior Housing is an apartment for seniors. Everything is near shopping and banks. It's nice. They showed me a one-bedroom apartment. It looks pretty nice. They have a community room if you want to gather or something. They have a laundry room, a sitting room, a reading room, a media room, and things like that. It looked very clean."

"My father has moved into Thorpe Village. It's been nothing but absolute bliss. The people really take care of the seniors there. They have a shuttle for the residents that takes them to get groceries and that takes them on outings if they want to participate. They have all sorts of activities for them. And once a week they have meals that the residents can go into the community room and purchase for like $7.00. It's really convenient, because my father being blind, he can't cook for himself, so for someone in his condition, that's just perfect. I would highly recommend Thorpe Village to anybody who has an elderly parent that wants their independence but can also have an eye kept all out for them. The apartment is handicapped accessible, which is perfect for my father. It's one level. The bathroom is wheelchair accessible, too. The space is huge, so it's easy for him to maneuver. I got a glimpse of his neighbor's apartment. It's the same layout, just a little bit smaller. They accommodate the handicapped very well. And these people take care of the property. I think the value for money is reasonable."

"I just moved into Senior Horizons at Newburgh. They don't serve food here. This place is very well-kept. I have a one-bedroom. It's medium size. They have a door code system in terms of security. Everybody is very friendly here. They have bingo. They have an exercise room and another room where you can go and have parties. I haven't done any activities here so far. Regarding value for money, it's the most reasonable price I came across."

"The Plaza at Clover Lake is a large facility. The other two we visited had about a capacity of 100. This one had a capacity of 175, and it was newer. It was only built in the year 2000. The rooms were larger and nice, but it was out of the way for us. It was quite remote. You really couldn't go out and have lunch easily or anything, but the facility itself was very nice. It was on three levels and they had elevators. They had a little bit more structured requirements for mobility. My husband is in a wheelchair generally, and I think they wanted him to be able to walk with a walker. He can walk with a walker, but he has a fear of falling at that point. He doesn't have good balance, so I think he's better off in the wheelchair. They were a little more stringent on that. They had a refrigerator in the room and little cabinets above it. It had a counter where they had the refrigerator underneath it, and the microwave could go on top and so forth, and there was a sink there. It was a little more modern. The bathrooms were also a little more modern. The person that took me around was very good. They would provide the furniture, so that was a plus. The thing I didn't care for was it was a little larger, and it seemed a little less personal. My husband said it feels like a hotel. It's fancier, and there's a big living area when you came in. It was modern and very nice. I won't say anything negative about it, but it was a little more impersonal. They accept community Medicaid, but not full Medicaid. They had a very nice outdoor area at the back. It was a big, open, sunny area, and you could overlook a pond or something that was further out because it was quite a large area. The place was on 50 acres. It was a little remote. It was removed from everything else, but it was very pretty and picturesque looking out to nature. It was new, modern, and very up-to-date. I had walked in unannounced. I had spoken to them earlier and made an appointment with them. Then, I had to cancel the appointment because I had another obligation. I came by later on another day and I just walked in, and while the person I would have normally spoken to was busy and doing an intake on somebody new who was moving in, they did provide somebody to show me around and gave me a tour. The woman who I saw, later on, gave me another tour, so they were very accommodating in that respect."
