I first discovered PearlCare through the suggestion of one of my close friends who had used the service for her late step mother as she reached the end of her life. She loved the staff and the convenience of the service so I decided to give it a shot with my grandmother. Three years ago my grandmother had a major stroke which left her paralyzed from the waste down and unable to speak. My mother and I decided that we could take care of her at her home since we lived near by, but we knew we were going to need some help. I contacted PearlCare’s companion care services and scheduled an interview to discuss my grandmothers needs. The person I spoke with was very friendly and helped me create a daily care plan for my grandmother.Using the plan we created, PearlCare regularly sent nurses to my grandmother’s home to aid her with eating, bathing, taking medicine and many other things. They were available 24 hours a day and offered very reasonable rates for their service. I would definitely recommend PearlCare to anyone who is struggling to take care of a loved one.

Community Home Healthcare was the first one that called me back. I was not happy with the caregiver taking care of my mother-in-law. They come in to punch in, but when I got there, they weren’t even there. Then they come back just to punch out, so I’m very unhappy. They were there for three hours a day to watch her. She more or less takes care of herself, so all they were supposed to do is housekeeping and just little things, and they didn’t do that either. We used them for the last three months, but I stopped them from coming to my house.

Financial Assistance for Home Care in Peekskill, NY
Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
Long-Term Care Insurance: Long-Term Care Insurance covers expenses related to senior care, including in-home care. Depending on the policy type, beneficiaries may receive a cash payment to use towards long-term care or reimbursement for qualifying long-term care expenses. Note that there are limitations- typically a maximum benefit of $150 per day- and exact coverage terms vary depending on the exact policy, so always check the details.
Medicare: Medicare does not cover in-home care because it is classified as custodial, or non-medical, care. However, some Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans, which offer expanded benefits, may cover in-home custodial care.
Medicaid: Medicaid coverage of in-home care varies between different states because it is not a federally mandated benefit. Currently, all states cover some in-home care either through their standard Medicaid or a waiver program. The specific coverage rules are set individually by each state.
Veterans’ Benefits: The Aid and Attendance benefit is a monthly cash payment that beneficiaries can use to pay for senior care, including in-home care services. To qualify for A&A, Veterans must already receive the VA pension and meet several additional requirements, including needing assistance with the activities of daily living.Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs to learn more.
Reverse Mortgages: Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECMs) are federally insured loans that are available to homeowners age 62 and over. Reverse mortgages allow you to access a portion of your home’s equity in cash, tax free. Many seniors use reverse mortgages to finance their care expenses, including in-home care. Note that although there are no monthly payments due on reverse mortgage loans, borrowers do have to repay the loan once the last surviving homeowner passes away, moves, or sells the home.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between in-home care and home health care?
Home care is a type of nonmedical care provided by an unlicensed caregiver who has completed state-mandated background checks. Home health care services are delivered by a licensed medical professional, such as a registered nurse, nurse aid or therapist.
What types of services can a home care agency in Peekskill provide?
Peekskill home care agencies provide nonmedical services designed to help seniors stay safe, healthy and as independent as possible. These services are customized to meet the unique needs and preferences of each client and may include assistance with bathing and grooming, light meal preparation and housework and shopping for groceries. Some home care providers can also accompany seniors to medical appointments and provide local transportation.
What is the average cost for in-home elderly care in Peekskill?
According to Genworth’s 2020 Cost of Care Survey, in-home care in Peekskill costs an average of $4,957 per month. This rate is based on 44 hours of care weekly, which works out to about $1,082 per week or $24.58 per hour. The number of hours of care each week depends on the needs of each client and their family, so actual costs may be higher or lower than the average rates.
What is in-home respite care?
In-home respite care gives family caregivers a break from their caregiving duties on a short-term basis. In-home respite caregivers can be scheduled for a single visit or on a recurring basis to give family caregivers the opportunity to relax, catch up on personal errands or go to work. This type of care can help prevent burnout among family caregivers while giving the senior one-on-one time with someone outside of their family.
What is private pay home care?
Private pay home care is home care that is paid for directly by the client and/or their loved ones. This type of care can include in-home respite care, in-home hospice care or ongoing assistance with activities of daily living to help the client safely age in place.
