"Lexington Club at Galleria was very good. It's tucked away on a very busy street. Route 9 is very busy, so you would never know this little place existed. I called it like a golden little nugget. The staff was businesslike. She wasn't very personable, but she answered all my questions. I'm a very friendly person, so it's difficult. That was just a little minus. The size of the rooms was average. It's not too big. It was very clean. They had a place where you could play pool or cards. They have a little kitchenette area in case you have family for dinner, but they don't serve food there. The reason why it was such a good place is because it's funded by the State, so it's reasonably priced more than most places but it has an income requirement. I didn't make it; I made too much."

"Woodland Pond at New Paltz was a really good community. The person I was visiting was at the moment in the health center because he had a stroke. Normally he was in independent living. He was quite satisfied with the care that he was getting. All the staff was really good, but my experience with the staff in the rehab place was really, really good. In independent living people have very good-sized, beautiful apartments. Everybody has a full apartment, at least one-bedroom with a full kitchen. The place is very well taken care of. The activities are very much driven by the residents. They're very flexible. If people want something, they get it. A lot of people do their own stuff. It's quite an active community. The value for the money is really good. The dining area is plenty big. It also has outdoor space for the warm weather. Sometimes they have barbecues outside, which is lovely."

"My mother has moved into The Fountains at Millbrook. We're very happy with it. They're amazing. They think of everything. She does not need assisted living, but they do have that option. As time goes on, it's nice that if she needed to transition, she could. They are organized and very clean. They offer so many services that she didn't have living alone in a non-senior community. They take them shopping. They take them to local doctor's appointments. They offer one or two meals a day. They have activities all the time. Everyone's so pleasant and very professional. I was only a guest there one time, and the food was very good. My mother is very happy with it, though. They have a dining hall, and she goes to dinner every night. They're willing to look for new items on the menu, and then they have their standard staples. They do soup, desserts, and nice entrees. If she had nutritional needs or requests, they would honor that. The facility always looks very pretty. They did recent renovations, but they keep it very nice and it's geared for seniors. The hallways are very wide. They have elevators. One of their elevators broke down, so there were cars servicing them from one side of the building to the other during that period. They just think of everything. She's just kind of getting used to it and before, she was not a super active person in terms of doing classes or art or going on trips, but they offer them and a lot of people partake in them. She goes out on shopping trips to the grocery store, but she doesn't do the art classes and the plays and those things. She has the option to do a lot of things that would cost her a lot of money if she had to purchase those things, tickets, rides, or food. For what she's paying, which is high, if she were to partake in everything that they offer, it would be money well spent. The other services do make up for it because, in the rooms, they have to pull cords if there is ever an emergency. They have 24-hour staff in the lobby and maintenance on hand. It's worth every penny."

"I just moved into Senior Horizons at Newburgh. They don't serve food here. This place is very well-kept. I have a one-bedroom. It's medium size. They have a door code system in terms of security. Everybody is very friendly here. They have bingo. They have an exercise room and another room where you can go and have parties. I haven't done any activities here so far. Regarding value for money, it's the most reasonable price I came across."

"I toured Mountain Valley Manor. I liked everything about the place. It was very nice. The people were very friendly and helpful, and took me on a tour. The staff was very friendly with the residents."

"New Windsor Senior Housing is an apartment for seniors. Everything is near shopping and banks. It's nice. They showed me a one-bedroom apartment. It looks pretty nice. They have a community room if you want to gather or something. They have a laundry room, a sitting room, a reading room, a media room, and things like that. It looked very clean."

"I've moved to Red Hook Commons. They have a movie night, and they have a library that we can go and use. We cook our own food, there are almost 20 apartments here and everyone does for themselves. Some have wheelchairs and some have walkers. The staff is very friendly and nice, they keep up with everything. The foreman is very helpful and he does his job well. One of the residents likes taking care of the flowers and trees around the area so he does that in his spare time. As far as I know, there are only two activities. They have a veterinarian close by, and they allow small dogs here. There's also a library nearby, there's an ice cream place near here, and a grocery store, and it's not too far from the hospital. So it has everything."

"The Plaza at Clover Lake was a nice facility. It's a half an hour from where we are, so we can easily get to Mom and check on her. The people were friendly. The residents were friendly. It seemed like all the elderly that were there were happy and moving around and doing stuff and active. Even though I saw people in walkers and wheelchairs, they were kind of on the move and engaged. The mood was positive and energetic. I noticed there were a lot of staff there, and they had the different amenities and the assistance that my mom would need, like they have the physical, speech, and occupational therapy onsite. They do medications and all that kind of stuff that she would need. For the Medicaid, it's a shared room. I'd say it's akin it to kind of a dorm room. It had a decent-sized bathroom in the unit, and decent space, but kind of divided in half, so it's not fully private. You could get private rooms, but that would be self-pay. They have a lot of stuff. They have a nice patio outside that overlooks the lake. They do barbecues. They have musicians that come out there and perform. They have a little theater, a library, and a game room that has bingo, board games, and different stuff. They have large common areas, like a living room kind of. It's not like a house. This is a big facility. It has like 178 residents, so there are multiple buildings and elevators in the building. The admissions director was very personable, friendly, and hands-on. I've met with her several times, both in person, and talked with her on the phone. I don't have a lot to compare it to, but it was everything that we needed, so it checked the boxes. The staff seemed very friendly, personable, and responsive. It looked like they have a varied menu. They have healthy choices and diabetic choices as well."

"Chestnut Grove-New Milford was small, very friendly, and very clean. I liked the staff and all the people I met there. The size of the apartment was good. The staff all knew their jobs. They're very good. They serve dinners and a buffet breakfast. There wasn't lunch in independent living. All the rooms had a refrigerator, a stove, and a sink. It was dated, but it was homey. It was not like walking into a five-star hotel. I think that appeals to a lot of the older people who were moving in there, and most of the people who were in the independent side were with walkers."

"I really liked Villa St. Francis. It was very clean and nice. Every floor had a living room and a kitchen. I liked the size of the bedrooms. It didn’t feel like you're in a nursing home. One thing I really liked about the place was the dining room. You didn’t have people waiting on you. You get your own lunch, and they have a great, big salad bar. I think it gave people a feeling of not being so dependent on other people. I would highly recommend this place to anybody. The place was absolutely gorgeous."
