"Sunrise of Cresskill is very modern. It is clean and welcoming. My mom hasn’t moved in yet, but this is one that we felt would be best for her. The dining area is nice and very welcoming. The rooms are of very good size, clean and well-maintained. There are many activities. I didn’t really get to see a full program, but they seemed very good and appropriate. They have a huge calendar set up so that the residents know exactly what’s coming. "

"Riverwalk is the Hebrew Home's Independent Living Facility. On balance, it is probably one of the best values in the Bronx/Westchester area. The staff is excellent, especially Katy and Regina who run the place. The rooms are ok, it is an older converted apt bldg so don't expect a modern look/feel (although the apts are all renovated as needed). The windows are old/heavy and the heating system is not easily controllable or modern. The food is good, not bad ... not excellent either ... and it's Kosher. There is a definite slant towards Jewish heritage, culture, and ethnicity. In my Mom's case, this is one thing that was very important to her. There are daily activities, transportation to local shopping and doctors (only in the immediate area), and two meals daily included. However, in my mind ... the best feature of the facility is the staff. If you are looking for a facility where the staff becomes like family to you, where the staff knows not only the tenant's name, but your name also ... if you are looking for a homey place where everyone from the maintenance staff to the security guards are extremely friendly, kind and treat you like family ... than this is the place for your loved one. So prioritize your needs, and decide what is important to you. If having a homey, friendly environment where you are treated like family is important, consider Riverwalk."

"Our experience at Harbour View Senior Living was good. The admissions process was simple and easy. Staff was able to send ahead of time, photos and information about their activities and what they do. And then upon arrival, it was also very efficient. Meeting the team members between activities and the nurses all came around even before I left that day, which was great. I think my father had a good experience. He has onset dementia, so he doesn't remember all the things all the time, but they did send me also updated videos of him when I was away engaged in different activities and made sure that he had his phone available so that I could speak with them regularly. So, they were very helpful. On the return, I didn't see anyone. But I do want to do like, a follow-up of how everything went while he was there. But overall I think it was a good experience. The room was like a dorm room, very plain and simple. I brought everything that he needed, a television and his clothes. His dorm room, basically with his bathroom, was nothing fancy. They have lots of common areas. They even have a little chapel there. They have lots of activities."

"I toured the independent living community of Carnegie East House in New York. I like the friendliness of the staff and the whole setup. I like the rooms, the dining area, the common areas, and the menus they offer. I also like the location and the cost. The place struck me as wonderful. It's very appealing and very clean, and I like the decor."

"My sister moved to Coterie Hudson Yards. It's spectacular. It's very expensive, but it's truly a wonderful place. The staff is perfect. They interact wonderfully. They're very caring. They are always watching what you're doing. They're friendly. They're professional. I couldn't speak more highly of them. Her room is not big but has big windows and a beautiful bathroom. It has beautiful walk-in showers. It's a private room. Everything you can imagine of their daily activities like there was a violin concert yesterday. They're always working with people individually. It's top-notch."

"Meadowview assisted living facility is the best place that I personally think is perfect for my mother. Earlier my mom did not like the idea of living in a assisted living facility, even I did not quite approve of it but later on I felt that she was indeed getting lonely and there was not much people to take proper care of her, but when we arriver at Meadowview Assisted Living at The Wartburg Adult Care Community we were astonished to see their hospitality and the place felt kinda homey . The only thing I would complain would be that it is a bit more costly that the others but it seems to be worth it as they have excellent nursing staff as well as excellent medical amenities. They most appreciable thing is that as compared to other assisted living facilities they allow us to keep out pets , my mom loved it she had two cats which were close to her heart and they let her keep it too. So overall I wonderful experience there and would recommend it to everyone else. "

"The Capstone Battery Park City was very nice. I liked it very much. They have a pool under construction, and that's one of the reasons why I want to go there. They have a special offer every month depending on their vacancies. They were very courteous, and it seems like a very upscale place. They seem to take care of all the issues they have. I was just very impressed with the place. The service was excellent. I didn't see anything wrong with it, except that it is a little pricy. The staff did a very good job, were very courteous, and answered all my questions. The food was excellent. It's the best food I ever had. They give you a menu, and if I want an extra cranberry juice, no problem, they'll just bring it to me. It was in excellent condition. Everything was almost perfect. I couldn't find anything wrong with it."

"I toured The Willows Home. It's lovely. I talked to a couple of residents, and they're very happy there. The nurse said that they have three meals a day, entertainment, and a beautiful common room. The bedrooms were very nice. The entire place is clean, but it's not what we're looking for right now. The dining area was lovely. They have a beautiful dining table, and everyone has a place at the table. She showed me the well-stocked kitchen. They have three hot meals a day, plus snacks are available to the residents. The staff was very gracious and very understanding. She showed me around, a very nice lady. The facility was very clean and had a very pleasant smell. The bathrooms were clean. The toilets were clean. I have nothing bad to say about it. It was a very nice place. They're somewhere I would consider if they had the accessibility that my father needs right now."

"We toured Thrive at Montvale. We liked the amenities, and we liked the fact that it was very new and very fresh. It was very nice. The staff was great, and we enjoyed the tour. We liked their meal plan and the size of the facility. It was not too big and not too small. We liked the fact that they could move from independent to assisted living if they needed to. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly, and they wanted to get to know my parents, which was good. The cleanliness was great. We liked the courtyard quite a bit. They had a garden room and a giant LEGO area for families to play in, and they had water features, but the units were a little bit on the small side. The atmosphere was vibrant, and we liked the setup, the layout, and the spaces."

"The tour I had at Castle Senior Living at Forest Hill was good. It was very interesting and very informative. It's a very limited area. It's kind of compressed and yet they made it look like they made good use of the space. They showed us a one-bedroom and it was very nice. The gentleman who showed us around was all very good and very informative. Downstairs, they had a common area where people gathered inside the building and they also had an outside area where people were gathering too. It looked clean."

"The person I visited at The Knolls really likes the place. It has a very big Olympic-sized swimming pool, and she is a swimmer, so she really loves that. She can drive her car and everything, so she is kind of on her own, and she likes that of course. She has a two-bedroom that has a really nice kitchen, and she can cook her own food if she wants. She has a washer and dryer in the bathroom, and there's one room that is set up like an office with a desk, and she can use that. I saw the dining room, but no one was eating in it. I didn't meet any staff, but my friend showed us the place herself. The facility is not brand new, but it's not really old either, so it's nice."

"Gladhaven Club is a small community. There are only about 12 to 15 people there. It's located in an old house so it's very homey. I feel like it's a nice community to be moving into. My tour experience was very good. The rooms vary in size, but they're all quite nice and they are very nicely furnished. If you prefer, you can bring your own furniture too. It appeared to be very well kept. The dining area is communal dining. I didn't have any food, but they said it was all home cooking. I'm hoping it's going to be good. They don't have activities like they do in some places. They have parties occasionally, but they don't have regular activities."

"What I liked is that the rooms were nice, big, and bright. The one room that we looked at in particular had a nice little outdoor patio. The staff seemed to know everybody by their first names and I liked that. They were also kind enough to spend time with me answering all my questions. They really seemed to respect the residents. They care for them a lot and they wanted the residents to have much stimulation within the day. There were a lot of things going on there. We did see various activities as they were happening. They also have a vegetable garden that the residents were working on which was also very nice."

"There is nothing that I like least about the New Nautilus Hotel. Everything was good for me. The customer service was great. The receptionist at the desk was very informative and very respectful. I deliberately asked to use the bathroom, and the bathroom was well-kept. The supplies were there, so I was really pleased to see that. I toured the place, and they took me to two rooms. The place was fairly clean and well-trafficked by elderly people. It was really good. I spoke to the supervisors, and they told me that I'm disqualified because I am working. Nevertheless, they were very professional and understanding."

"It was very nice. The staff was very cordial and very engaging. We went during their happy hour. They had a gentleman that was singing and serenading the guests. He had some sing-a-longs. Afterwards, they served cheese, crackers, and fruit beverages. He sat and talked with the some of the residents during that time. I think my mom enjoyed the conversations there. It had a home-based atmosphere with formal dining. It was really nice. We didn't get a chance to partake in a meal or anything. They stated they had menus, where you could order from when you are seated. You have a choice of whatever is on the menu. They catered to your differences of nutritional limitations, so that was good. They had bingo and happy hour. They had scheduled activities that were posted. There were monthly trips to the mall and trips to various events around town. They said they have movie night with popcorn. The staff that gave us the tour was very helpful. What we saw was very nice. The rooms were very nice and very clean. They showed us the various options of a larger room versus smaller room. Also, there were different views from different rooms, like a nice park view from one side and then the parking lot. It was roomy, though. The rooms were very nice and had plenty of closet space to put your personal things in. You have access to a laundry room and any other things that are needed for hair care. They had a little store on the premises, if you want to buy something."

"We like Heritage of Clara Barton. We like the physical facility itself. It was bright, it was really clean, and it was inviting. It was very warm when you walked in. A lot of places are dark and dreary, and they were very bright. Even the hallways where we went to and see the actual rooms looked more like a hotel. It was very nice. They have like apartments where two patients are sharing the apartment. It could be two patients sharing a galley kitchen and a bathroom. They were good sizes. They had good closet space. It was clean and bright. The staff was very friendly and very nice. As we walked the facility, people spoke to you. We had an opportunity to meet the chef, too. The residents seemed happy. It was very lively. The residents were out and about, and they were doing things. The person we walked with knew the name of every person that we passed, so they seem to be caring. We saw the dining area and the recreation area. We saw the outside spaces where residents could go sit outside or go for a walk. They did not serve us a meal, but we were able to go into the dining room while residents were eating. The food looked and smelled good. That was the first place we visited and after visiting there, we didn't want to visit any other places."

"Arbor Terrace Teaneck seemed a very well-run, clean, friendly, and positive community. I've heard good things about it from friends who have parents living there. It's very attractive and very beautifully landscaped. It's right next to a nice private walking path. I saw the menus. The staff seemed very competent and caring."
