"I've moved into Rolling Hills Retirement Community. It's very well put together, very organized, and very clean. The food is very good. Good selections, too. They have a movie theater as well as different kinds of activities daily."

"I am currently living at All Seasons West Bloomfield. The place is only 10 years old. It's been a very pleasant apartment. I don't partake in any activities. I am more of a recluse. But they have a pretty good chock full of activities. I feel okay here. I feel safe. I have dinner partners. The room is very adequate for a single person and I wouldn't need any more space."

"I toured Elmhaven Manor. It's very clean, neat, and organized. I didn't spend a lot of time there. I didn't get the comfort feeling with that one as much. The hallways and stuff are nice. I didn't get to see the rooms and stuff, but just one apartment. So, it was a small one. It was just a small one-bedroom, and the kitchen was pretty small. It was not homie. A few people I met on the elevator weren't friendly, but that's the people though, you can't control that."

"When I visited Brookdale Novi, I saw the room, the space, and what was available. Since it's independent living, they just showed me the package if I needed some help with anything and the prices were too much for me. They showed me a one-bedroom with one bath and its kitchen. The kitchen came supplied, but there was no furniture in the bedroom or the living room, which was fine. The staff was very helpful. The facility was nice and clean. It looked decent."

"Baldwin House Senior Living Oakland was clean. It was bright and cheery. The office person went over things well and answered questions well. We were impressed with them. They had ceramic stuff in one room that people were working on. They also have bingo, cards, and dinners out where they take the bus. It all sounded wonderful. The staff was very nice and informative."

"We went to American House Village at Bloomfield. It's a nice place, but it's not what we were looking for. The floor plan was a little small, but it was OK. They showed us the common areas and a one-bedroom apartment. The staff who assisted us and gave us the tour was very nice. The place was very clean."

"My mom moved to Golden Grace by Majestic Residences. They've been very caring. They're also very good at helping with the transition because we just moved there. The food was very good. There was no smell. Everything was clean and dusted. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. It's not a large facility, but for a group home, it's laid our very well."

"I've been in StoryPoint Novi for one year now. The employees are all very friendly and will help anybody that looks like they need help. The meals are extremely flexible, like you can order breakfast almost all day long. Whatever is on the weekly menu that they put out, if you don't like it, there are so many other options that you can choose from. It's sit-down rather than cafeteria style, which we like. They have very sufficient entertainment and activities. The activity people in that department are always upbeat all day long, every day. The director, Tiffany, is very adept at it. She comes in here on weekdays and she comes and brings her husband and her children. It's like this is her family here and that's impressive. The building itself is clean. The independent and assisted living have their meals together. We have three meals a day, but we are supposed to choose two of the three meals. I found that that's extremely sufficient. My apartment has a complete kitchen. It has a full-sized stove and oven, a full-sized refrigerator and a microwave. The only thing that's missing is the dishwasher. Every Tuesday night, they have some type of musical entertainment. It might be somebody that plays the violin or a singer. When football or baseball is on, they have things called tailgate parties where they'll serve things and we watch the big-screen TV. They have movies a few times a week in their theater with a big screen. They have card games going most every day. The Rummikub seems to be a big thing. They have other special things, like right now, they have a theme for the food every day of the week for a different country like Mexico, Hawaii, etc. There seems to be something going on all the time. You just wish it was cheaper than it is. A lot of these places are in a nice, serene area, with not too much commercial stuff going on and just peaceful situation. We have here a place that's right across from a very big mall and a big hospital with all the different doctors surrounding it. Everything is extremely convenient as far as shopping, medical services, restaurants and things like that. Within 10 minutes of here, you can get just about anything you want, but we are set back so you don't feel like you're in the middle of a busy area. It's really a pretty good situation we have."

"I found a place, and I'm moving into Lockwood of Hartland. They have a few apartments that Michigan would pay for part of. So, I would be paying $1,750 a month instead of $3000 or $4000. They have an exercise room, a movie theater, and lounges. They have a room that you can have your family come in, and if you need to have a party or something. In the back of it, they have a path around the pond that you could walk around. It is very nice. I got the one-bedroom, and I'm on the ground floor, and that's what I wanted. They have elevators, but I still wanted to just be able to walk out and get my car. The manager was very accommodating and very informative. It was good. I'm going to prepare my own food because it's like $600 and some dollars a month if you eat there. If there's something that I see on the menu that I want to eat, all I have to do is give them an hour's notice, and I'll be down and eat. The facility is beautiful, too."

"My sister moved into Rose Senior Living at Providence Park. It's working out very well for both of us. And, I couldn't ask for a better staff there. They are good both to her and for helping me through everything. She has a one-bedroom apartment, the smallest one-bedroom apartment, and has very adequate space. She's busy with chair yoga and balance exercises, bingo, Rummikub, and lots of other activities all day long. She's out of her room close to 8:00 to 8:00. They have a lending library, a garden arbor, several courtyards, an excellent fitness room, and a separate physical therapy room. She's taking physical therapy for balance also. And they have a hair salon, chair massages, nannies and patties, and many movies a week."

"Brookdale Farmington Hills is a lovely facility. It's well taken care of. I thought Nancy was charming and very informative, but financially, I don't need all the care they offer. I don't need somebody to cook my meals, clean my apartment, or do my laundry. They don't have what I need, but Nancy was just delightful. She was knowledgeable and personable. I liked the structure of the building. I thought the carpeting in the hallways could use a little attention, but besides that, everything looks lovely. I saw some residents sitting out in the lobby. I met a resident out on the ground. She was lovely, although she won't remember meeting me. She had Alzheimer's, really bad within the first few minutes of our conversation. The living room and kitchen were smaller, but the bedroom and the bathroom were a wonderful size. The kitchen had a small refrigerator and a small stove. There's no room for a microwave. You'd have to have a microwave cart or something, and I don't even know if there's more room for that, too."

"I liked that American House Stone is just one floor so my mother would not have to deal with any stairs or elevators and the price point was important to us. We were fortunate to be able to eat a meal there and my mother, who is very particular, enjoyed the food. There were a lot of options for her. If she didn't want somebody doing her laundry for her, they said that that was no problem and that she could do her own laundry. So, there were things like that, which made her feel more that she was living independently and not reliant on somebody else for everything, which was important to her. She didn't want to feel like she was giving up total control, and they were very willing to work with her on that. Everybody was very kind to us. This was the second time that some of us had visited there, and they remembered us from a previous visit, which was surprising even to remember the names. So, we're very pleased with how we were treated. They were friendly, helpful, and very kind. They even gave my mother a to-go container of more food, because she liked it so much. The facility was clean, but there were a few things that were dated or wear and tear, but nothing bad. The room that my mother is going to be moving into has a new carpet, new paint, and things like that. There were four of us that they served lunch to, and everyone was very pleased with the food."

"We toured American House The Village. It was a great tour. We get to see a lot of the facilities and the added activities. We liked the people there and the independent units. They were bright, cheerful, spacious, and bigger than what I had expected. The staff did a great job answering our questions and presenting things to us. We went through the dining room and watched people eat, but we didn't eat there. They have a top chef, so I assume the meals are good, and they allow us to have a pet."
