"It was clean, and they had a lot of that for the clients. I kind of got a good feeling there when I toured them. I had a tour with the physical therapist that worked there, and she was excellent. The building was all right. It was OK. Everything was good."

"My mother moved into Lockwood of Waterford. She likes the food, the staff, and the people there. The room gets cleaned, everybody is nice, and the place is nice and clean. The snow removal is taken care of, they seem to be on top of everything, and the maintenance staff seem to be really good too. The dining area is fine and large. Mom said they have lots of activities. They have transportation services, they have a beauty shop, they have a small store, a movie theater, a pool table, they have a library to take out books, and places to do jigsaw puzzles."

"I went to Magnolia by the Lakes. It was nice, everything was upgraded, it's not a very old place. I like the walk-in shower they have and the walk-in closet. I like the washer and dryer in the room. And I asked somebody about the food, and they said it's excellent. And the lady that toured me, she sat down with me and she answered all my questions. She emphasized and had a lot of empathy for me. She was very kind and concerned and caring and very nice, so my experience there was 100 times better than the other place. The rooms are beautiful. They're pretty large. You can get to the bathroom, from the bedroom, the living room. It's the same bathroom, but you can get in from either way, at night, you don't have to go out to the living room to get to the bathroom. That was nice. The closet was huge. It's clean."

"We toured American House Milford. It was very informative. The staff took us straight to the room we wanted to look at. He answered all our questions. It was lovely, and we thought it was a perfect fit for my brother, but he didn't like the price. The other thing is that he seems to have more trouble with memory, so we're not sure how all this is going to advance. So to move him somewhere, and then have to move him again is not an option. They showed us the laundry room. It was very nice and clean."

"I'm in Rolling Hills Retirement Community. The thing that I like best is that it has garages. The building layout is identical to all the resort lifestyles community. They've used the same blueprints to build every facility. All utilities costs are included in the monthly rent and three meals a day are included in the facility rent. In my 12 months of living here, we've gone through a total of five activity directors. They seem to be having trouble holding on to employees. The activity that seems to be most popular is chair volleyball every day. They show a series of movies. There's a 150-seat theater where they show movies. They do little shopping jaunts several times a week. Close by is a Meijer store, a Target store, and Costco. They take the bus and go to those stores a few times each week. There's a lot of fried food, which is probably not good for any of us, and the quality of the food has seemed to decrease over the 12 months that I've been here. I don't think the corporation cares about the residents or the staff members as much as they should. The resident managers are not as conscientious or as well trained as they could be, in my opinion. There's been a lot of turnover in the people that take care of the dining room."

"I am currently living at All Seasons West Bloomfield. The place is only 10 years old. It's been a very pleasant apartment. I don't partake in any activities. I am more of a recluse. But they have a pretty good chock full of activities. I feel okay here. I feel safe. I have dinner partners. The room is very adequate for a single person and I wouldn't need any more space."

"I went to Elmhaven Manor two weeks ago. It was beautiful. It was very new. It was very clean. The actual apartment was very nice with a balcony. The staff was very nice, very informative. They do not have a cafeteria. You have to order out at a restaurant. I have no complaints about it at all. It was very modern, it was very accommodating for my mother with the elevator. They had pull cords in the rooms. It was a bright place with nice sunlight and it was just very nice. They do have activities, but I did not see any elderly people walking down the hall. There were cards, puzzles, and there was a beauty salon."

"My mother has been at Brookdale Novi for 3 months now. The people that work there are very friendly. She has a nice 1-bedroom apartment; they refurbished the whole thing before she moved in. The food is good; at each meal, they have a couple of different things to choose from. They have a lot of different things: bingo, happy hour, games, and a pool table. They’ve been really good to us so far. "

"We went up to Baldwin House Senior Living Oakland and looked at it. I liked it 100%. Me and my wife were very much impressed with the people there and the community. It was a great facility. It's very clean and the kitchen area was very nice. They were polite. They took us through a tour of the whole place. The theater room was nice. The laundry facility was clean and nice. Everything was nice about the whole place. They had bus transportation and outside activities going on. They also had a cafeteria where they served the food and the food was good."

"I toured American House Village at Bloomfield. The people and the facilities looked pretty good. The staff was seemed friendly and caring. They seemed to know like they knew what they were doing. The facility has been seemed like it was nice and in good condition to give a good impression . The layout was pretty good and it has presented enough room to be able to move around in the room. I tasted the food, and at that time, it was still warm and it was good."

"My mom moved to Golden Grace by Majestic Residences. They've been very caring. They're also very good at helping with the transition because we just moved there. The food was very good. There was no smell. Everything was clean and dusted. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. It's not a large facility, but for a group home, it's laid our very well."

"I found a place, and I'm moving into Lockwood of Hartland. They have a few apartments that Michigan would pay for part of. So, I would be paying $1,750 a month instead of $3000 or $4000. They have an exercise room, a movie theater, and lounges. They have a room that you can have your family come in, and if you need to have a party or something. In the back of it, they have a path around the pond that you could walk around. It is very nice. I got the one-bedroom, and I'm on the ground floor, and that's what I wanted. They have elevators, but I still wanted to just be able to walk out and get my car. The manager was very accommodating and very informative. It was good. I'm going to prepare my own food because it's like $600 and some dollars a month if you eat there. If there's something that I see on the menu that I want to eat, all I have to do is give them an hour's notice, and I'll be down and eat. The facility is beautiful, too."

"We've been to Rose Senior Living Providence Park. Our experience was very good. They seemed to have fresh good food, whereas the other ones we visited didn't. They were the nicest units. They had laundry and dishwashers in the units. All the people that lived there were all active and walking around, and everybody knew their names. To me, it was the best one. The residents were getting ready to go somewhere. They have a happy hour every day where drinks are included. My mom doesn't drink, but still, it'd be fun to go there and sit on the balcony and talk to people. You don't have to drink. There was a room that could be used for chair yoga and different activities. The staff was good and very helpful. The lady that showed us the place used to be in advertising and got into this because of finding a place for her old mom, so it was really good to have somebody that firsthand knew what you're going through, trying to place parents or find parents someplace to live. They gave us scones to take home, and they were so good. The facility was good. It's not very old. We thought it was very clean. My mom liked the layout and everything."

"I was familiar with Brookdale when it was called something else. I liked their setup; it was also very nice. What I like is the fact that they have a screened in porch at the back and just that little area made it homey. I also liked that it was basically on one level, and there was access to green space. What impressed me about them was their policy that if they did not hear from you by 10:00 AM, they did a wellness check. The other places might do that, but I was impressed with that. I am all about the little screened in porch at the back because that was just a really nice part of space."

"My mom is currently in American House Stone and I love it there. They have very well-kept-up grounds with a couple of gardens, they call them the hummingbird gardens. They got a little lake or retention pond behind the building that you can walk through, but it's fenced off so you can't get to it, but it's good. The grounds are very well-maintained. Her apartment is very nice. They go from pretty good-sized one-bedroom ones to a pretty big studio. We have Mom in a little one but it's all she needs and it's safer. They've got a lot of activities like music, singing, bingo, and puzzles, they do hallway bowling and hallway ring toss. They're very active and they have a bus that goes offsite once a week. The food that I had was really good. The staff that I got to know are all good, they definitely go above and beyond. They keep eyes on my mother and other residents, they know them by their names, and say hi to them in the hallways. They also check on them when they don't have to, and the people there that are not technically independent get by very nicely. It's actually less than what we're paying before, and we're getting more for the money."
