Shepherd Premier of Crystal Lake was very nice. We were given a tour, and our questions were answered. It looked like they engaged the patients very well. They were doing crafts when we came there. The staff was all very informative and helpful.

Shepherd Premier of Crystal Lake was a very small community. The residents seemed to be out and about and hung out together. They were also a little less expensive. So, those were the things that drew me to it. The facility looked very clean. The meals were pretty good. They just didn't have a lot of room for the wheelchairs and stuff they had, so it kind of looked cluttered. The woman that took me around seemed to know what she was doing. She was familiar with my husband's issues and what he was dealing with.

Dad moved into Shepherd Premier of Crystal Lake. The reason that I went with Shepherd Premier was because it's family oriented and it's a house -- he's actually living at a house -- and the size of it, because he was getting lost like in the place that he was at before. There's only ten people and they max out at 12. He mainly needs encouragement. He needs assistance with his meds, and he needs reminders. He needs reminders for his activities of daily living. Like he wouldn't choose to eat or take his medicine, or brush his teeth or anything without those reminders. But once he's reminded, he can do all those things. It's a big house, but it's a small community compared to other assisted living and memory care. The staff is very friendly, very warm, and very compassionate there. They're really good. I'm really quite pleased with them.
