"My grandmother moved to Riverside Residence, and I've never seen her this happy. The staff is excellent and extra friendly, especially Papine. She's been good to us. I was able to try the food myself, and it is very good. It's not a five-star restaurant, but for that type of place, it is way better than anywhere else. We are blown away by this place completely. As I was moving my grandmother in, they had happy hour, and sat her down and gave her a beer. The common areas are beautiful. The TV room is nice. It has a piano, a bar, and a nice big TV. Her room is also very nice. It's exactly the right size for her. The carpet is new. They put on a brand-new barn door in her bathroom. They're even willing to change the tub into a shower for her at no extra cost if that's what she wants. She has a beautiful view of the river, too. They were the cheapest one that I found, and they're the only ones that offer three meals a day. No other place offered that."

"Our tour experience with Huntley Springs Retirement Community was excellent. It's basically apartment living where you have your own individual apartment and a key to the door. I felt that the cost was reasonable for what you get, because they include absolutely everything. There's absolutely nothing that you have to pay for other than if you want to do something extra outside of the community. The facilities and the apartments were just beautiful. They have guest apartments, so if you had visitors they could reserve one of those, which I think is amazing. The activities were incredible. They have clubs and nice dining rooms. If you have a dog, you have to be on the first floor, and you have a walk out patio, which was important to me. The only concern that I had was, because it is on a piece of property that is set way back from the main road, everything around them was open. So someday, I know people are going to buy their property and I don't know what's going to be there. I don't want to be looking at the backside of a strip mall someday, but as far as the facility itself, it's very good. They have a workout room and they do chair volleyball and things like that. They have a concierge available 24 hours a day. Overall, I would highly rate the place. If you were someone that was looking to live in an apartment setting, basically that's what it is. Everybody was very friendly and knew each other. Even the maintenance people were very nice."

"My wife is a resident of Alden Courts of Huntley. It's a very nice place. They take good care of her. They watch for everything, for physical problems and different things that come with it. Everybody's very caring and nice. They've got a whole calendar that they come out with every month. She does all sorts of stuff. The food was very good."

"The Woodlands at Canterfield was beautiful. The apartments were fine, clean, nice, and brand new. We met with several people and they were all very nice and professional. They had a bunch of games going. It's brand new so there were not that many people there yet. We saw people in the lunchroom and it looked very nice. The dining area was beautiful. I didn't eat there. My brother and my mom ate there and they said the food was excellent. We met with several different people and overall everybody was great, but some were better than others."

"The staff at the Heathers Senior Homes of Ringwood were all very helpful. The only thing that stopped us from choosing them was the location of the room. We didn't feel it was conducive for what we were looking for. Everybody was in their room or something, so I didn't see people engaging in anything. I think they just had lunch, so they probably all went for their naps."

"It is very clean. The rooms are spacious, and the staff is very accommodating. The caregivers are awesome and my friend seems to like it. She is a level two memory care and they could go up to level six. So, that was a big plus for us. The day that we went to visit her, they gave us some sliders and some pancakes, and the food was good. Once you leave your room in the morning, you can't go back into it unless you need to use the bathroom. The doors are locked and they don't want people hanging out in their room. They have group sessions, tdo arts and crafts, do physical therapy, and play games. She'll play bingo, they watch movies, and they have visitors like dogs that come in. So, they keep the residents pretty active until it's time to go to bed."

"I toured The Cottages of Fox Lake Assisted Living & Memory Care. I liked it very much. It seemed very homey. The rooms were a little bit bigger, but they were unfurnished. He could bring his little refrigerator and TV. It had a sink and everything in the main room, which was very nice and clean. The bathroom was very clean. They accommodated showers, which is important. It seemed homey, and it was all on one level. They had a couple of different cottages. They all hooked up, although they had a memory unit. The memory one would be where my boyfriend would want to go. Allie showed me the place. She also has contacted me a couple of times afterwards to see if I'm still interested, and I've asked her a few more questions. Everything there was very nice, but it was just the price. They also said they would accommodate his diet since he has a special diet. He can only eat certain foods."

"The Sheridan at Tyler Creek was very clean. The staff was very friendly. We were able to see just about every place that we would want (i.e., the dining and the movie theater). There wasn't much activity going on at the time. I believe the folks were all still in their rooms. It seemed very homey and very welcoming. We were impressed. We saw the assisted living apartment area, but it's very possible in the next six months or so that mom will be moving into the memory care; so we saw both. The staff was wonderful and very informative. I could tell that she enjoyed what she was doing. She shared with us that she had been working and volunteering in communities like this since she was 12 years old. It's pretty much been her life. I was very impressed by her, her knowledge, and her warmth. I also liked the way she spoke to my mom and ask questions. We were very comfortable with her. The rooms were very nice, much roomier than I had expected. We went into the one-bedroom apartment and the studio as well. I thought they were both quite adequate for a resident living there. I was very impressed. It was very clean and very homey. I could see setting my mom up in there."

"My dad moved into The Atrium at Oak Crest Residence. The people that work there have been really great. They're friendly. Whenever I had issues or things I needed to bring up, they addressed it right away. So, it's also relaxed. And they're always making sure that my dad is getting involved with stuff. He's not just sitting in his room. So, it feels like a small community. It's not a huge facility, so it feels like everybody knows everybody and they know what's going on. And I can talk to whomever, so I think it's been good. The facility is clean. There's an older part and a newer part, and it's well taken care of. But it's not like fancy or anything. So, it's a very basic place, which is fine. It's what my dad needed. So, if you're looking for something fancier, this isn't the place, but it is a good basic facility. It has a comfortable and laid-back atmosphere."

"In 2024 I lost my husband unexpectantly and was living alone in a large house in Schenectady, NY. It had stairs I had fallen on twice when my husband was alive. My two children live in Chicago and were afraid of me falling again and getting hurt or getting sick and having no family close by. My closest siblings were two hours away. After looking at Brookdale Hoffman Estates and other senior communities near Chicago, Illinois, I decided Brookdale would be my new home. During the tour I saw residents socializing and using the amenities. When I moved in I was greeted warmly by staff and residents. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Many of the residents helped my first days be comfortable. I met so many residents and became friends with some. I did not know what to expect and was pleasantly pleased it was above my expectations. My two-bedroom apartment is comfortable and is what I was looking for. Staff listen and try to accommodate residents' requests. Everyone I meet is friendly including residents, staff and visitors. People from all walks of life and from many states live here. They say they like living here. Many stories are similar to mine. It is good to be around people who understand what I have been going through since my husband's death. I love the beautiful grounds and manmade pond with a fountain and walkway around it. My cat and small dog are adjusting well. I would recommend Brookdale Hoffman Estates to anyone looking for a senior community because that is what Brookdale is, a community."

"We went to Solstice Senior Living at Palatine. They have a very enthusiastic senior director who's in charge of intake. Very nice gentleman. He met with me one-on-one in March, and I brought my mom back to visit in April. We've discussed this individual spot, one-bedroom in the 600-square-foot range, and the pricing was reasonable. It seems like people are happy and comfortable and well taken care of. The staff seem very responsive. There were additional ancillary services on a pay-as-you-go basis and doctors or therapist coming on-site, so there were some pluses. I have a very positive impression of it."

"My sister was living at Ciel Senior Living of Long Grove. It's very clean and very friendly. Their approach was excellent. Their food was sufficient, but it could use a variety. My sister's room was more than adequate. It's a nice size. She was in one with a bedroom, a front room, a kitchenette, and a bathroom. They did Scrabble and bingo, and they went out for lunch."
