"My mom is in Atria Del Rey. We've both been very pleased with their care and especially lately she's fallen a couple times; they tend to spend extra time with her and doing different things now that she hurt her arm and all that stuff. They've been very, very helpful. Her room is OK. None of these places are cheap, so of course I always would think maybe we'd like a little bit bigger room, but this one's fine, and she has everything she needs there in her room, so it's fine. Things are so different right now because of the COVID going on. The residents don't get to sit together for meals or anything. They have to eat in their rooms, so that's a big change, but they are very diligent with everything they're doing, trying to keep everyone healthy, and I think they've done a real good job. That's just been the hard part for her. My mom didn't want to move in there in the first place so it has nothing to do with them or the place. She likes everybody there. She's very happy with everybody there. She still thinks that she could live alone by herself, which she hasn't come to the realization that she can't. There's quite a few things they do. Again, before COVID happened they had a lot of activities. They have a large room with a television that they show movies in all the time; it's nice. They did a lot of activities during the day. Now, with COVID, that's really stopped a lot of that. They've come up with some other ideas where they go to each resident's room and they play little games or whatever with them, and then they move onto the next person. They try to keep them active a little bit as much as they can, but because of the virus they do have to stay in quarantine. That really put a damper on a lot of things that we used to do. I've been very happy with everything that they have done. After my mom fell these last couple of times they have really stepped up and helped with the wounds and those types of things. They do have that staff on hand too, which is really nice to know 'cause I can't go in there, because of the COVID they won't let anybody in, and I think all the places are that way. We ate the food in the very beginning, in the first couple of months, and my husband and I went there a few times. Some of the other family members went 'cause they have a really, really nice, pretty dining room, but now we can't do that. But at the time we went several times and the food was very good. The facility is lovely and very, very pretty inside and very clean looking. I'd say they do a lot. They keep it looking really good. I didn't really see that much, but from what I've heard they have different levels of activities depending on the person's capabilities, because they do have some residents there that are not as coordinated because of their age, illness, or whatever. They kinda have several different things to match up with their abilities."

"Aegis of Chino hills changed its name to Oakmont of Chino Hills. The facility was very nice and very clean. They were renovating when we visited, but wasn't that old to begin with. There were a lot of activities, and they have a lot of on-site care, like beauticians who can do your hair and nails. They have a nice theatre inside the place. The staff is very good. They know their people by name and are very close to them. The dining area was very beautiful, nice, and very clean. I am quite impressed by it. "

"One of the facilities that I visited was Westmont Village. I found it to be a beautiful community, the equal of any town or village in Southern California. It's just gorgeous with beautiful homes. It used to be Airforce Village West. They had a lot of military officers living there. Now it's got a lot of seniors, it's got apartments in there, and it's got all kinds of comprehensive care if you need it. The freestanding homes are gorgeous, and you can just live independently if you want to. I was very impressed except for a couple of things. It's too quiet. It's almost as quiet as the funeral next door. A lot of people would not consider that a flaw, but a benefit. You could hear a pin drop walking down the street. The other thing is me and my attitude. I'm going to be 80 years old in a year and a half or so, and I have no right to feel this way. But I go in there and on these tours and I'm looking around the people and it is a sea of elderly people, and I don't feel like I'm in that demographic, even though I very much am. I'm too young for that kind of a place, but I'm just going to have to get used to it. I'm probably older than a lot of those people, but I'm looking at it and I feel like I'm looking at a lot of grandpa and grandma, and I'm not one of them, but I am. So it's a bit attitude on my part. I didn't go into the memory care building, but I saw them from the outside. I mostly visited independent living and maybe assisted living. The people were very, very nice. If I were to go anywhere at this point, it would probably be Westmont Village. I thought it was a wonderful place. It's spotless. The staff is all wonderful. They were very, very nice and accommodating."

"I know a couple of people who have had family members at Walnut Village or somebody that I know who is there right now, and I really like this place. But one of the drawbacks was that I know I was going to get resistance from my aunt about the cost. Telling her, “Okay, you are going to have to come up with like $200,000 to move in,. I just didn’t think that I was going to get her to understand that. The second thing was that I wanted to keep her near her doctors, and I wanted to keep her closer to where she used to live; although Walnut Village was more convenient for me, it wasn’t convenient for her. It was a very nice place and also maybe a little large. "

"Rowntree was very nice and beautiful, but I want something that offers more activities. The food was delicious, and the dining area was beautiful. It sits in the center with a fireplace, and you could look outside at the garden. They had a barbecue outside when it was warm and were putting up Christmas decorations, so it was very nice. The people were very nice. They had some ladies playing the piano when a lot of people were eating lunch. "

"It has been a positive experience with Artesia Christian Home for the most part. My mom's room is pretty nice. It's a 1-bedroom with a full bath and kitchenette. The facility is also pretty nice and above average. They have a lot of activities for the residents, and the food is pretty good. The place is really clean and it's been kept up really well. They have nice furniture in the lounging areas."
