Kanak Care Home was horrible. It was brand new. My husband was the second resident. He had his own room. The owner only charged me like $4,000 a month. It was kind of a move-in special. I took my brother with his wife, and they gave it the OK. She had two employees working there, and they got one day off. The Filipino guy was really rude. I know nothing about care. I just know my husband's not doing well. I know he has Parkinson's and dementia. The owner told me the best thing for him would be hospice, and Medicare pays for hospice. Next thing you know, hospice takes over, and it's like you've got an army of people coming in to see him. He has a Foley catheter, so the nurses are supposed to come by, and sometimes the nurses say, "I can't come, I'm three hours away." Every time we called the nurse, she was always three hours away, six hours away. We never spoke to the doctor and could never talk to the doctor. I just felt like we were being scammed. We were paying $4,000 a month, and that included the food, and they gave him a shower and basic board and care stuff. Then other people started moving in, so by the time my husband left, there were five other people living there. The more people that came in, the less care he was getting because they didn't boost up the amount of care he needed. It was always the same food, almost every day. The residents were asking for more protein and better food. I would give them zero. I wouldn't allow a dog to go there. The owner was phony. She's like, "I care all about the people, I don't care about money," but the next thing you know, she's like, "I don't think this is a good fit for your husband." There were three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a master with a bathroom in it. It was barely furnished.
