The facility is a pretty good one, as far as the standard of cleanliness and care that I have seen while visiting. One of the main things though that is annoying is the billing. They have consistently tried to bill us for the use of oxygen for my grandmother when she has never required it, and it has never been ordered by her doctor. We have refused to pay this specific portion of the bill until they produce documented proof that they have a doctor's order, or that the oxygen was used and needed at the time. So far they have not given us any documentation, nor have they initiated any type of collection. The same charge just shows up again the next month. Other than that, she is total care and seems to be happy at this place.

This facility has a few bad apples in the bunch which makes the facility look bad abuse and neglect of patients especially the ones that suffer from Dementia/Alzheimer please beware of your love ones! I rated Downey 2 stars for the good nurses that are really trying to make a difference!

The lady who I visited was always glad to see me. I visited in a religious capacity to minister to her in her chosen religious tradition. I was, at the time, a young man of about 14, and ministered in this capacity with my father. While I was there, the people seemed somewhat neglected. They were physically clean but there was one lady in particular who sat there rocking in her wheelchair just grunting. It seemed to me that there weren't a lot of enrichment activities. Also there were 2 residents in each room. The rooms weren't very large and the facility as a whole seemed very cramped and overcrowded. This story was from about 20 years ago, and things may have changed in that time, though I can only imagine that the facility has become run-down and less clean in that time. I would not take a family member there, as there was an atmosphere of pain and sadness.

This facility is rt accross the street from a large medical center and located rt in the middle of downtown. Near shopping and restaurants. It is on a nice, quite street - away from the main street going through town. Downey is a very safe community. This facility has a excellant reputation. I found it to be very clean and staff are friendly. Resident's seem happy and well cared for. They specialize in dementia care and have a locked side. They also care for mentally ill patients on one side of the building, altho they are segregated from the elderly population. I liked the caring feeling I had in walking through the facility. It was non-odorous and the activity program is great. They seem to keep the resident's very busy. I would consider this facility.
