"My sister is going back to Cardinal Retirement Village. She had an apartment there, and that's where she was when she fell and broke her ankle. It was very nice, though. It seemed to be well-managed. The rooms were nice. She was only there for a little over a month before she broke her ankle. They only asked for a three-month contract lease, and after three months, it's month-to-month, so that's a nice feature for them. Not having somebody sign a long-term lease is a good idea. The residents were very friendly, and the staff were very friendly, too. I think my sister said they usually have choices of what you get for your meals. With her only being there for four weeks and the experiences she had, I think she said the meals were good. The apartments were clean. Originally, she had a studio apartment, which was just one room with a kitchen area and a bath. What they have available now is a one-bedroom apartment, which is much bigger than the studio. She didn't like the studio because it was kind of small. My sister participated in some activities. They had bingo and other activities, but I'm not sure what they were. They were giving her a discount on her room, so that was a plus. The value seemed to be the standard value, but when I compared it to other places, they were slightly lower."

"My father-in-law was at Maplewood at Cuyahoga Falls, and it was a self-pay. It was not a Medicaid facility. We had to move. He ran out of money. He was there for minimal care. He can take care of himself, but he was in the memory care unit. The people who work there are great. We really liked the facility a lot. His room was wonderful and it was big. He had his own room and bathroom. The upkeep was really good. The dining area was nice. They did activities. They took him out on a bus, and he would always go. He liked the outings. I felt like the price was a little bit high."

"I toured Vitalia Senior Residences at Stow. The place was gorgeous and very nice. Everything seemed like it was going to be great. It was very costly. It was probably going to be very costly for my mom's condition. She doesn't need two-person assist yet, but she needs a lot of assistance. They couldn't give me a price or an estimate or anything like that until she was assessed, whereas others could give me guesstimates at least. I just couldn't get pricing, and I was in a hurry because I wanted to get Mom out of the environment she was in. However, everybody was friendly. I met directors from different departments, and they were all very friendly. It looked like they had good activities too. The cleanliness was good. The room was nice."

"I went to Eden Vista of Stow. We liked that it looked clean and homey, not like a big, fancy hotel. The apartments had a living area, a kitchen area, a bedroom, and a bathroom. The person who took us around was very friendly and very informative."

"I put my mother into Hudson Grande Senior Living. So far, I'm very pleased. My mother has been attending activities, and the food looks delicious. I've actually eaten there twice, and it is very good. My mom is getting the help she needs. The rooms are fine. For activities, they take them to movies. They make sure they get out of their rooms, and they show an appropriate older movie for the residents. They also have guessing games where they have to finish the end of the name of a movie show. They all play along on that, and they seem to enjoy it. They also have a thing where you would toss these large donut-shaped things over, and they were clapping for each other. Everybody was enjoying it. They take them to happy hour that doesn't involve alcohol unless they want that. The staff are all very friendly. They call me if there's a question about something. They're still getting to know my mother medically."

"I visited Brookdale Barberton. The staff was excellent. The room sizes were very nice. They weren't really small. There was plenty of room for furniture, plenty of room for moving around, and having company in, that kind of thing. The dining area was very large, very neat, and clean. The parking situation was good. There were no issues whatsoever."

"My sister has been in Brookdale Montrose for a week now. I am very pleased with it. Of all the ones we visited, it was our first choice. The staff was very caring, very knowledgeable, and very helpful as we transitioned. The community is very nice looking. They take good care of it. The residents seem very happy there. What really sold us is, as we were touring, people would just come up unsolicited and just tell us that they hope we moved in, that we would love it there, and that they've been there three months, six months, or two years or whatever, and that they loved it there a lot. The residents seemed to really like it there, which helped sell us on the idea that it would be a good place for my sister to be. I have tried their food, and it's okay. They're very concerned about us liking it, so they came and asked us for positive and/or negative feedback. I think they're always trying to improve. They also have a lot of activities to choose from. The independent living cost structure is in line and is even a little bit less than some other places we looked at. They seem to provide a few extra services for that base price that other places didn't offer. So, I think that's a very good value. Everyone we interacted with was wonderful, as well. So far, we're really happy, and we hope the trend continues."

"I toured Heritage Crossing. It's going to fit my needs very well for my mother. The rooms were nice. The pricing was fair from what I'm seeing with the market. I liked it because there were more individual residents versus couples, which made it easier for my mother. In the lobby, everything is very welcoming. I like that they have very nice gathering areas all through the facility, so family and friends can always go off into a private area with beautiful furniture or fireplaces. They have a theater room. The activities that they have are fabulous. I met the chef. The restaurant looks wonderful. There's enough to pick some off the menu without being too much. I did look at the menu. It looks like a bistro-type menu. It was very nice, chicken waffles and that kind of stuff. I think the chef makes maybe one special for the night. Then you have a couple of other choices if you want. They had a trick-or-treat there yesterday from the kids' school. Kids in the area could come through. The residents made Halloween hats and cast and costumes and we're excited to have the kids there. I was impressed, like sitting in the lobby while I was waiting to talk to the medical director about my mother's situation. The housekeeper team, they're joking around with the managers. I love that. I just thought that they all seemed to enjoy each other's company."

"My mother has been a resident at Danbury in Hudson for 4 months now since needing more care and assistance with medications. She was previously in Springwood, the sister facility for independent living. The transition to Danbury was easy and well-managed by the staff and administration. The staff (nurses, care-givers, dining, maintenance, and front desk/office) have been simply OUTSTANDING. I really can't say enough about how friendly and kind every single person has been to my mom. My sister and I rest much easier knowing she's getting the care and attention she needs. The activities are frequent and varied. In hindsight for my mom wishes she had moved to Danbury sooner. My sister and I advocated for it but mom was too happy with her apartment and friends at Springwood. If she had moved a bit sooner, she would have had an easier time getting into all the activities and options available. The other residents are all friendly and welcoming. The facilities are quite lovely. The common spaces allow for plenty of space to visit with friends and family. The rooms vary in size and most tend to be on the smaller side. That worried mom at first, but her studio apartment is set up quite nicely for her needs and she's quite happy with it. I think the food is above average for an assisted living facility. I like it. The combination of the dining room plus a mix of happy hours, mixers, ice cream Sunday bars, etc. provide good variety. I'll repeat the most important part, the staff, especially the nurses, care-givers and dining staff, are so welcoming, kind, and helpful. It's truly impressive to see, and I'm very thankful."

"My sister moved to Vista Veranda. The people are friendly, and so far, no complaints. The staff so far is pretty good. You have to keep calling. They don't respond when you call, but I just keep trying to get somebody to answer my questions. The main thing I like, I was there yesterday, and for memory care, they have them playing volleyball with a balloon. They try to keep the memory care people involved in their activity, which is a good thing. The cleaning is good. It's quiet. To get into memory care, you ring the button and they come get you in less than two minutes to let through and from memory care. They have art classes. They have bingo there. One thing that they did I thought was cute was, I went to her room yesterday. They have the drawer marked sock. They have a drawer marked thermal. They have a drawer marked with my pajamas. Where her bathroom is, the lady bathroom, it's connected to another room and they say no exit. So she must have been trying to open the door. So, they try. Her room is not big, but it's not small. Some of them I went into were so small and they had a hospital bed, which I thought was more efficient for the room. She had a full-sized bed."

"My dad has been living in The Gardens at Liberty Park for seven months now. It's a relaxed community. It's budget-friendly, too. Everybody there is nice. We love the nurses. The food is okay. My dad's not a huge fan of everything that they cook, but he's pretty picky. Other than that, everybody's been nice, and they take good care of him. He has a nice big room, too. It's a studio, but it's private. I've eaten there a couple of times, and the food is pretty good. With regards to activities, they do all sorts of things like exercise, and they do little outings where they take them to Walmart, out to lunch, or to get ice cream. They also do little scenic rides. My dad likes those things. I think they're very good value. They take really good care of my dad, and we appreciate everything they do."

"My mother is currently a resident at Maplewood at Twinsburg. We are very pleased with her care! The staff members at Maplewood are always kind and helpful. It is truly a warm and caring community that feels like family. My mom loves all the daily activities and seems to rarely be alone in her room. She goes to exercise class every morning. She also enjoys doing craft projects. She attends history and current event discussions, cooking demonstrations, and lots of fun socials. She loves traveling on outings with Allie the activities director and a small group of friends. Allie has great ideas for new and interesting places to go. They have so much fun together! Allie is funny and helps everyone to enjoy exploring NE Ohio! The nurses are great also and give very personal attention to each resident. Nurse Tammy gently cared for my mother and kept me informed on a daily basis when my mother was ill recently with a virus. I felt confident that my mom was getting excellent care! Of course, Maplewood is furnished beautifully and is always kept quite clean. The food is delicious and nicely presented at meal time. I highly recommend Maplewood - it’s a wonderful community to call home. We are thankful that we found it for my mom…"
