"My mom is in Atria Tanglewood. They take very good care of her, they are very nice to her, and they're very helpful to her. She's 98, and she tells me that she feels very secure in their care. Everybody's very friendly. They all know me on a first name basis, and I like the security at the front desk. They don't let any strangers in. Everybody has to sign in. I particularly like Virginia. She's an extraordinary person. She was the one that showed us the place. We went to three different assisted living places, and we liked this one the best. I have tasted the food at the holiday parties. Some of the food is good. Some of the food, I'm not crazy about. It's very clean. I walk in there, I'm really happy because it smells good. They really keep the building nice. They vacuum and clean every day. Sometimes my mom, unfortunately, will have an accident, when she's in her apartment and they come right away and they shampoo her rug and clean it. They're really good like that. They offer so much there. She's played bingo and she has gone to a couple of the concerts once in a while. The activities are great. Vinny and Taylor coordinate the activities. They had this tie dye designing for shirts. My mother went down to check it out, but she didn't participate in it. At least they got her out to see it. They do fake bowling outside in the garden area. They do pretend horse racing. They have people come in and play music and they have concerts, movies, and arts and crafts. I have a lot of people that I like there. It's a great place. I chose this place because I like the rooms better. I like that they have a sink in the kitchen area. The other places you had to go to the bathroom to wash your hands. This place had everything that my mom needed."

"We toured Sunrise of North Lynbrook. They showed us the cafeteria in this facility, but they didn't offer food. They showed us where the residents would be eating. Everything was top-notch. It was very clean. As you walk in, you're greeted by somebody at the desk. It was a secure place, and they offered a lot."

"We looked at Sunrise of East Meadow. We liked it. We thought it looked very nice. The rooms were fine. They were just a little more expensive than what we were specifically looking for. The staff was excellent. The upkeep was excellent too. There was nothing negative about the place. Everything was very nice. We certainly would have been very happy there. However, the way the room was set up was a little different than what we had, also my sister would have to get a higher-level room to have her own bathroom there, but she needed her own bathroom. That was really the determining factor in all of these places. The parking area was fine. No problems with it."

"Atria Park of Great Neck is the best in terms of cleanliness, level of care, and professionalism. They're top-notch. My father's been there for two weeks now and I visited him many times. The only problem he complains about is the lack of Chinese-speaking staff over there. They have someone who is Chinese, but there's only one and she's also the nurse supervisor. So, I don't want her to be bogged down by this question because she has her duty already. Beyond that, his room is OK. The environment is nice. This place is good. As far as the staff, I don't have much to complain about. They are pretty good. I haven't seen the meals up close because they don't allow family in the dining room but the setting is very good. They escort my father to the dining room for three meals. So, he has enough exposure, including the trip to the dining room, activities, and all that. The facility itself, compared to the other places I visited, is very clean. There's no smell in the air. They're relatively new, in fact, compared to other places. I was there the other day and I've seen their activity that involves the whole residency. They try and the participation from the residents is good (if they can participate). People who do not have the mental or physical capacity, are present, but they don't necessarily have people to help them really to fully enjoy the environment. It's pretty expensive. If there is something that can be improved, that would be the cost side, but I don't think that's something wrong. There's a slight delay in their response to someone who presses the request button, but it's minor. If they could allow my father to have an electric wheelchair, it would probably help him some, because he is not fully mobile on one side so a regular wheelchair is not all that useful, but they don't allow it. He has to be moved around by a person. They respond to requests like "Can I get a better bed for him to get out?" and they ordered a hospital bed for him. So that helped. I asked whether they could get a better seat cushion because he is not able to sit in a regular wheelchair for a long time and they respond to that sort of thing. They're minor things. I don't think it's a big deal."

"During my visit at Atria Forest Hills, everybody looked very content and happy. They would be administrating my husband's medicine and redirecting him, which is good. It looks like my husband would be comfortable there. The place was comfortable, and nobody seemed to be stressed. The tour was great. Everybody seemed to be on point about what we would like done. They fulfilled our needs as far as answering questions and showing us around. They were very well organized. They have a refrigerator. They have towels and linens. It's very clean. Three meals a day are included. There's a nice restaurant with a nice menu. Everybody was pleasant. They have a clean dining area. The staff who gave the tour was very knowledgeable."

"Amber Court of Westbury seemed very hands-on with the people, and they had full-time nursing staff there. The facility was lovely. The outdoor area was lovely, too. The rooms seemed very nice. They had a nice gym. They also had a beauty parlor that had people there every day. The staff was very knowledgeable. The dining set-up was typical of assisted living. It was spacious and bright. The residents were engaged in various activities."

"When I walked in The Arbors Westbury, there was a very homey feeling. The staff was very welcoming. The residents were very happy and very active. I noticed they had a lot of activities going on. The residents seemed very content. There were also a lot of great places for them to spend time, either by themselves or with other residents. There were a lot of different options for them. They really hold the Veterans in high esteem there. They have a Wall of Heroes, and they have a Veterans' meeting once a month, which I think is really, really important. I did not have a meal. When I was in the tour guide's office, the chef brought in pastries and fruit. It looked very good. I just didn't eat them. It looked very restaurant style. They had a courtyard, where they do a gardening club. They had raised flower beds. There was a nice area for them to sit outside there. It includes everything. You get three meals a day and all the care is provided, including all doctors that you would need. The rooms were updated and really beautiful with home-like furniture. They are updating everything. I saw a couple facilities, and it was very different from the other ones. The staff was very accommodating and very friendly. The facility looked great. They had updated rooms, new flooring, and new furniture. It looked very nice. As soon as I walked in, it smelled very clean. I feel like my father is going to be in a place where he's finally happy, and that he will be there long term."

"I visited Sutton Gardens twice, once by myself and once with my mom. The tour experience was very good. The administrator, I think her name is Jessica, was very helpful. She gave a thorough tour and gave information regarding what it would cost to house my dad if we would choose the community. The facility was very nice and very well maintained. They had enough staff. It wasn't overcrowded with residents. It was a small community, which was very encouraging because then I know that they won't be overwhelmed, and they can tend to the patients in their care. The dining area was well set up. They had small round tables, which were intimate and had four or five residents per table. And the staff was very helpful. I didn't try the food, but it looked good. The residents were eating during the tour. They do arts and crafts with the residents, which is good. They also have bingo. They have a TV room and an outdoor space, which was very good. It wasn't a large community, but it was good enough for a senior citizen or someone dealing with Alzheimer's. Like my dad, he's unsteady on his feet, but I don't worry about him being a fall risk there because the staff seemed very helpful when it came to the patients and their care."

"The first thing that I didn't like at Castle Senior Living at Forest Hills that was a turn-off is that as soon as you walked in you saw many people with walkers and wheelchairs. I understand that it is assisted living for seniors, but not everybody wants that in their face as soon as they walk in. I saw the apartments at their independent living and assisted living, and I liked them. The only thing that I didn't like was when I walked in and I knew right away that my aunt wouldn't like that. The staff member who gave the tour was very helpful, especially when I'm new to this assisted living home. One thing that I remember is that when we got on the floors they were cleaning, so you got that cleaning smell, which is like an institutional smell."

"Harborview Senior Living is the place that I am suggesting to my friend's sister and her family. It's a really lovely facility. I got a chance to talk to some of the people there, and they're very happy with being there. I liked the ease with which the admissions officer, Angelica, was able to help us understand what is necessary for the transition of going into Harborview. It was just a very good experience. The staff answered all questions with a thoroughness that I have not experienced in other places. They had all the facilities that we needed. They have a gym, a sunroom, and a courtyard. Everything is there that we need. It is near restaurant facilities. It's a lovely neighborhood. When you walk out, you feel that you are in an area that is safe as well as there's the availability for not just restaurants, but also other things such as hospitals and other nursing facilities."

"We like Christian Fellowship House. It is a beautiful setting, and the people there seem fantastic. We are putting my parents in there together. However, they don't have any rooms at the moment, so we would have to wait. They also have a staircase, so I was a little concerned about that for my mom. It was a historic house, but it was very cozy and homey. We liked the people. One of the owners toured us. She was very knowledgeable, gave us a lot of information, and was very understanding of our situation. It was nice to talk to her."

"Divine Serenity Assisted Living looked like it was a residence that they converted to individual rooms. The time I was there, as far as I know, the residents were either on a trip or going to the doctor, so there were no residents there. The lady showed me the area where they would be doing work in the building. She also showed me a room. She answered all my questions. She told me how they take care of the residents. They have a nurse that comes in and a doctor. If the resident has to take medicine they take care of that too."

They had a barber shop and a salon. I saw the outdoor seating area, the patio, the room, and the community area. The room was very nice. Harbor House takes Medicaid and she has Medicaid."

"Coterie Hudson Yards is very nice, but it's very expensive. I went on a tour of their assisted living and the rooms are beautiful, the staff is very friendly, and the food is wonderful. It's almost like a restaurant-type atmosphere where you can order drinks with all types of food and entertainment. You have the piano player going while you're eating. The people are polite and professional. I also had a meal with them. They have a wonderful menu and a chef right on the premises. Their rooms are not shared, but they also accommodate couples. They take the residents on tours down to Manhattan and go to different places and different restaurants. It's a wonderful place."

"My mom is in Wartburg. She went there for rehab, and they have an assisted living program right there, so we transferred her from rehab right to assisted living. To me, the place is excellent. They have excellent care there. She had excellent care in the rehab center. They have excellent ratings. She is in senior housing now. The staff is wonderful. I haven't had a problem. They're very pleasant and very easy to talk to. They take care of my mother, which is the main thing. She has a studio apartment and she's very happy. Her room is excellent. It's clean. They come in constantly to do housekeeping. They're very excellent. Basically, they remodeled the place and it's beautiful. The grounds are beautiful. She is getting very good care there. The food is good. There's three meals a day. If you don't like what they're serving you, you can get plenty of substitutes. Whatever you want, the chef makes it for you. Right now, because of the COVID, they only have a music program, trivia, and Jeopardy. They don't have too many activities. They can't have anybody from the outside come in. The music program is nice. They have somebody coming in twice a week to do music. It was also the most reasonable place that we checked out."
