"The staff at Friendship Village was excellent. The facility was very up-to-date and very comfortable looking. The rooms looked good and you can bring things if you want to personalize it. The grounds were very well taken care of and very attractive. "

"I toured here. They had a nice garden. They have nice apartments. I noticed they had full-sized kitchens and refrigerators. They were located in an urban area, which is nice for people who don't drive. All the people I met there were very nice. It seemed like a very good community. The staff was very good. He's very personable, very nice, covered everything, and took me around. I liked him and he was responsive to me when I had questions. They had a lovely dark area and a nice activity area. They have physical therapy and stuff like that. I think there was a theater. They offered transportation within 15 miles, I believe, and they were pet-friendly."

"Autumn View Gardens is an excellent facility. The halls are very big. It's very updated. My mother's room is one large room, and it's sort of divided into a living room and a bedroom. With assisted living, she gets all of her meals there. The staff is all long-term and they're very friendly. It's easy to move about the facility. They have numerous activities going on each day. She's been to tours outside on the bus. There's no better food around. What they have there is outstanding."

"In the last 12 months Town & Country Senior Living, has had: 2 Executive Directors, 4 Director of Wellness, High turnover of staff, Unable to get direct email for staff (had to go through main line), Poor communication between residents, staff, family and in house doctor, less than a year it has changed ownership again."

"Brooking Park was a nice facility. It was clean and up to date. The staff was nice, but not particularly helpful because when I went to pick my sister up (they knew what day I was going to pick her up), they didn't have any of the paperwork ready for her release. I called ahead and told them and asked, "What time can I pick her up?" They said anytime. So, I told them I would be there in an hour to an hour and a half, but even with all of this, they still did not have the paperwork ready. So, I was waiting and I said, "I'm going to go eat lunch and come back." Still, they didn't have the paperwork ready. Finally, I just took her and brought her home. My sister's room was OK. It wasn't anything fancy. She had a TV and a comfortable chair. The bed was kind of an old hospital bed, but she had a dresser and a nightstand. That was pretty much it. The menu looked really good and my sister didn't complain about the food. She said she liked it."

"My parents are in St. Andrews. I like it because it’s really homey, small, and the people are very caring. They provide activities and have outside courtyards where you can go and be safe. I have nothing but good things to say about it. I’ve eaten there a couple of times, and the food was good. They appear to care for the people and are generally concerned about my parents. "

"Autumn View Gardens is a smaller community. It has a nice activity list. They accommodate doctor's appointments and some rides to the area. It is across the street from a church. Their dining area is restaurant style. "

"My wife doesn't see very well and The Mary Culver Home is designed only for visually impaired women, and they've been in business for 150 years, so I like it. It's a small home. It only got 27 private rooms, so she gets a lot of one-on-one attention and they're very good. They are very attentive towards her and I would highly recommend anybody if their spouse is visually impaired, because that's the one requirement to get in. I like the fact that the patient to staff ratio was like 7 to 1 and the food's good. My wife seems to enjoy the food and they do activities with them all the time. So, they try to get them involved in various activities and I'm pleased. The rooms are small, but they're all private, and they have a private bathroom in them. It's plenty and big enough to get around. I think the home was built in 1966, I believe, so it is an older home, but it's well-maintained. They have a dining area and they kind of wait on them like it's a restaurant. They'll come up there and take their order, and whatever they want, they'll cook it for them. They have exercise classes. They do tours of different countries and stuff like that. They listen to those kinds of tapes and then discuss them. The other day when I was there, they were doing Martin Luther King's history and life. So, they do something like that all the time for them."

"I toured the Fields of Florissant. The community is very nice. The staff and the residents there were friendly. I did not get to see a lot of the facility, just when I walked into the dining area and the recreation area. I saw two of the rooms, the studio apartment and the one-bedroom apartment. Both apartments were very nice. The bathrooms were large and spacious. I like the one-bedroom apartment for my mom. Everything there was pretty much updated. I liked that they offered a microwave, a refrigerator, and a sink area inside each facility. It was a large facility, and the entire place seemed very clean. She introduced me to the activities director and said that she was very creative and always came up with different activities for them to do. It was Halloween-themed at the time, and there were activities around that."

"My mom is in Village Center Care of Wentzville, and they take good care of her. The doctor and workers are very good and nice. The facility needs to be updated, and they're working on that. They have an open area where you can go outside and smoke."

"We have friends at Twin Oaks Heritage Pointe. It's close to our house. It has a garage, and I wanted a basement and a garage. They have lots of activities every day, a theater, workout room, classes, Zumba, cheer dancing, social hour every afternoon, and a room for family to visit in. They have a van to take you to grocery stores, doctors, Kohl's, and department stores. I'm moving in next month. "

"My mom has stayed at Caregivers Inn. It was kind of small, but we knew that going in. It just didn't meet her needs at the time. We thought it would, but they are working towards it to make it better. I didn't want to badmouth the place completely because they were very nice. They were nice with her and everything. But it's just it ended up having way more care, or memory care, than regular assisted living. The grounds were clean. The staff was okay, but they were short-staffed a lot. They were going through a transition with the management group, and they were going through wanting to get their kind of people in there. So, there was some turnover while we were there. They also got some more help eventually. The room was small, they were just little rooms. The best way to describe it, as my wife puts it was, it reminded her of a boarding house. It wasn't terrible. It just wasn't what we were looking for, and we kind of were in under a gun. There were some extenuating circumstances that if we had a little more time, we may not have chosen caregivers, but they were able to take us right away in the situation that we were in. They offer a lot of the same things as other places, as far as activities. They have bingo, crafts, and different stuff. They tried to make the residents go down and be active in the activities. But again, it ended up being that there was too much intermixing of the memory care with the few residents that were there actually for assisted living. I think they're working towards changing that as best they can, but that was one of the issues that my mother had with why we made the change. The food, I don't think it was as good as what we're getting now. For my mom, it didn't seem like there was enough at meals, and it was pretty much whatever they fixed is what you got. There were no options, everybody ate the same thing. We thought they made them eat a little too early for dinner. It didn't work out for us, but it wasn't a bad facility, and it wasn't run terribly. It was just for my mom's experience, what she was looking for, and what we ultimately wanted for her. It just wasn't the facility for us. A slightly selfish reason for my wife and I is, that it was like a couple of minutes' drive to get to my mom if we needed to."

"I toured Twin Oaks Estate. I had a very good experience visiting this facility. We met with the administrator, and she was very helpful. She's the one that helped us understand what's required of the residents to be able to stay in assisted living versus nursing homes. She was helpful in that regard. The rooms were nice. The living atmosphere was very nice, too. They had a large dining area that was also used for social events, parties, and celebrations. When we were there, they had a large group playing bingo. They had a beauty salon. They wash and cut the resident's hair, and it's included in their base price. It's a very nice facility, and it's also cost-effective."

"I selected Park Place Senior Living at WingHaven for my mother. I just like the environment, and the caregivers are attentive and there for the right reason. The surroundings are very nice, and it's a nice property. My mom's room is a nice, large 1-bedroom with a little kitchenette, refrigerator, and a sink, and that's really all she needs because they serve her 3 meals a day, and there's lots of activities. "
