"Woodlands Creek is very new, very nice, and very elegant. The rooms were nice. They have good dining facilities, underground parking. They have an assisted living facility attached to it, which is nice. It was all very good. "

"My mom has chosen MorningStar. It is the one she feels most comfortable in. It is bright, shiny, and new. She likes it. They have a theater room for movies. They also do sitting exercises and have Sunday worship services. It is gorgeous and cool. They have a computer area, an area where they can play Scrabble, and a huge area with eight or 10 game tables that have different game settings and puzzles. They have Wii bowling, putting area, massage area, beauty shop, and work out center. It is all in one level in one big area. The place is very nice. The staff is incredible. We met two or three people, and they're excellent. However, this place is expensive."

"After a few years of considering a move my parents finally made the leap to move to Independence Living in Waukee. The staff was so helpful with each step, answering my numerous questions. They genuinely care about the people who live in this community- they know my parents by name and all of us family who visits- I'm greeted by name every time I come. The lunch is wonderful, servers are caring and attentive and the head chef Linda is a treasure! All members of leadership do whatever they need to be involved with people who lives here. Even the executive director washes walkers and paints fingernails! Talk about humble leadership. There are numerous varied activities to satisfy a number of interests. The apartments are comfortable and you have the freedom to decorate and make them feel as homelike as you want. Each member of leadership stops by and visits new residents within a couple weeks of moving in to get to know people and create relationships. Respect, valuing people, care, kindness- these are all values the employees that work here embody. I would go so far to say employees are an extension of the resident community - it is all one big "family". I cannot recommend this safe, secure, comfortable community enough."

"I was very impressed with Bickford of Ames. The rooms are small compared to what my mom has now, but their goal is you don't spend a lot of time in your apartment. They have activities for the residents to do, and they can get out and visit. This is what I'm looking for because my mother is locked in her room right now under quarantine, and at 93-years-old that's not a good thing. The staff was very friendly, the facility was very welcoming, and smelled good. A lot of these places have a smell, but this one looked clean and the residents were clean. They have two TVs, one in the main area and one in the fireplace. They can just get out, visit, and read the paper. The maintenance guy who works there full time gets the guys together and plays the Yahtzee. On the other side of the building some ladies were getting a manicure, and some were sitting on the couch while visiting, and they have activities planned all day. The rooms were really small and Mom won't be able to take much of her furniture that she has, but at the same time she really doesn't need all of that extra stuff. They have a chef there and everything's homemade, so it's doesn't sound like it's industrial."

"We visited the independent living community of Edencrest at Tuscany in Altoona. The facility itself was great, and the apartment that we were looking at actually had a nice balcony, which would have been nice. For activities, they combined independent living with assisted living. They're a very beautiful place to go to, but just a little further away from all of our kids when I want to see them, so we decided to go somewhere else. They have a one-on-one exercise area and underground parking. They're also newer, and the staff members were always very lovely."

"The location of Prairie Vista Village is ideal for me because it's close to two of my sons and I like that the home has a patio, which I like having in my apartment. I like the idea that there are two meals a day included in the rent. The rent was affordable to me and there's a garage. The apartment that I will be in has two bedrooms with a full kitchen and laundry (a washer and dryer). The rooms are all quite spacious, larger than the rooms in the house that I'm living in now. There's lots of light in the rooms. The living room has large windows on two sides and the bedroom also has a large window and lots of closet space. The lady who gave the tour was very, very bright, and very intelligent, and she answered all of my questions exactly the way I wanted to satisfy my curiosity. She was very nice. They have an area where people can plant plants in the summertime if they get the urge to do some gardening. There is a small area for that and there's a walking path around the building."

"My mother will be moving to Courtyard Estates at Hawthorne Crossing on Monday. It seemed family friendly. The rooms were really nice. She will have a fairly large living room and a nice bedroom and an adjoining bath. They had outings, bingo, cards, and dominos. The staff was very friendly."

"We moved my parents to Village Assisted Living two years ago and have been very pleased with the care they have received. The facility had only been opened for a short time when they moved there. Their apartment is beautiful and the staff is very caring! Apartments range from studios to 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartments w/small kitchens. Their meals in the dining room are all included in the price of the apartment and the meals are delicious. Family members eat fairly regularly there and the dining room is very much in a restaurant setting with menus that can be ordered from if you don't care for the daily special. The dining room is attached to a sunroom which looks out over a small patio and lawn area with flower beds, tomato plants, bird feeders and even a windmill along with patio furniture. There is also another smaller room at the end of the dining room with a kitchen that we have used for family gatherings. There are very comfortable, attractive patio chairs and gliders out front of the building that residents like to gather in and chat on nice days. The building itself looks more like a ski chalet than an assisted living facility. When you walk into the front door you are greeted with a beautiful staircase to the 2nd floor, an electric fireplace, a library complete with a computer with internet access and a grandfather's clock. The dining room is on the other side of the fireplace and the elevator is a few steps further. The entryway is beautifully decorated for the holidays. The building is connected by a walkway to the skilled nursing/nursing home where my father was able to visit my mother easily when she was recovering from the flu a little over a year ago. Sadly, my mother passed two weeks ago after a two month stay at Hospice. The staff have taken Dad under their wing and are keeping him busy with group activities to help him get acclimated into his new status of living alone. The staff took over my Dad's medications when Mom was moved to Hospice and are respectful when they come to give him meds by knocking and waiting to be bid entrance before entering the apartment. They talk and joke with him during their brief stay each time. My Dad has Alzheimer's but is still able to participate in exercise classes, attend every music program ever offered, as well as Bible studies, bingo and other outings that they make occasionally. We chose the Valley View Village community because of the different levels of care beginning with independent living cottages through the current assisted living community and then on to skilled nursing, nursing home and memory care also. We highly recommend this facility to anyone looking for an assisted living facility for their loved one! "

"We chose The Gardens at Luther Park for my husband because of the price, convenience, and location. It's beautiful, and I love it. The staff is great, and very helpful. The food looks good, though I haven't tried any. They have all kinds of outings, a recreational room, and card games. "

"I like everything about Edencrest at Siena Hills. It is an excellent facility. The staff was excellent. It's beautiful there, but the downside is the cost. The apartment was beautiful. Everything was brand new in it. The layout was excellent. One thing we were looking at was the bathroom, and it was laid out excellently. It had excellent handicapped accessibility. It was very nice. We did not go during lunchtime, so we weren't able to sample their food. However, when we left, they were serving dinner to their residents, and their dining room was filled, and what we could see of what people were having, looked great."

"Mill-Pond was nice, but Ankeny is not close to our doctors or family. The staff was very nice. We have a friend there, and she loves it. It was very clean. Everybody was helpful. Because of the virus, we couldn't see any of the rooms. The rooms you could see were not taken, but they were vacuumed, clean, and very nice. The dining area was OK. They had to do distancing. There were very few people there because of the virus, so they did a very good job. If people came down to eat, everybody was far away from each other."
