"The facility itself is nicely set-up it has both independent and assisted living options. As my mother-in-law is not as old as many who are either retiring or are going to these types of facilities, not having a traditional, "old folks home" vibe was important. The facilities are nice and the amenities are in line with much of what you would expect. Among the list of things that made us genuinely want to visit was the fact that they have a program for chronic pain care. My mother-in-law has had a back problem for years, and had some issues with pain medications, and is now in search of other methods of dealing with her back pain. The other major reason we wanted to visit was because of the Christian atmosphere it promotes. Overall, we enjoyed our tour and were pleased by everything we saw. While not extravagant, the facility and amenities were in line with what you would really expect and need. The biggest seller is not the facility, but that the residents seem and act happy. It is rare to go to facilities such as this and have such a wellspring of positivity. While we are still in the decision-making process for my mother-in-law, as she recently decided against a facility closer to where she lives. Valley View Village is currently on a very short list. "

"I like this facility because of the rooms. There's one on one side and two on the other side. Each room has window. They encourage residents to come out instead of staying in their rooms which is great. They tried to keep it so that they don't need the bathroom together on one side and the one that does need the bathroom on the other side. The sink is outside the bathroom on each side which I like for infection control. Their food was good. They had two different choices. Their staff had been there a while. Their activities were good. "

"We had my brother in law at Union Park Health Services for rehab. The staff seemed to take care of him. I am not happy with the doctor's medication program. Other than that, I have not identified any problems with regards to the facility. "

"My grandmother stayed at this nursing home while recovering from shoulder surgery. This facility had assisted living and a nursing/rehabilitation wing. It was a great facility that offered shared and private rooms. The smell within was pleasant and was not the typical "nursing home" smell. My grandmother greatly enjoyed her stay here. She said that they had a lot of extracurricular activities available to the residents that included Wii Bowling and Baseball, Ice Cream Socials, Tea Parties and many more. She requested that if she ever needed to go back for an extended period of time she would want to go back! "

"The staff at University Park seemed very nice. The people who live there had a very good relationship, were very friendly, and seemed to know one another. It’s all suites since it used to be a hotel. The rooms were all of the same size and shape. It’s kind of small for the price, but I have visited others that were way more expensive. They offer three meals a day. "

"Sunny View Care Center is a small facility. The staff was very helpful. They were very willing and very able to answer questions. They were pleasant. They seemed like they wanted to connect and fill out what the person needed. However, it wasn't quite as neatly kept. Not that it didn't look like they weren't able to do the job, but I felt more comfortable over at the other place. The first thing I walked into was a cafeteria. It was nice. It wasn't dirty. But it was more hectic and congested because it was smaller than the other place."

"Mom is in Fleur Heights Center For Wellness and Rehab. The people there had been pleasant, and mom is getting the attention that she needs. Mom is sharing a room with another resident. They have bingo. They watch movies. They have a creative director, and mom is interested in art so she enjoys doing that. "

"My husband was at The Bridges at Ankeny, and he received excellent care. I was very happy with the care, and I was especially happy with their discharge planning because they were very clear about what his needs were and that kind of thing. They have a very nice and wonderful staff. My husband was on soft food, and they had to grind up all the food and everything. He was on a special diet, and as far as I could tell, it was fine. But my husband didn't like having to be on a special diet. His room was private, and it was good. The facility was beautiful, very well kept, and new. I didn't see any activities, and my husband didn't want any. But he did have physical therapy, so that kept him occupied. Medicare paid for this at this point because he came from a hospital."
