"My father is living in Wesley Acres. What we liked about it was they have three levels of care in the assisted living area. They kind of base it on what your needs are. You have to pay for a commitment of two years. Once my dad runs out of money, they don't make them move someplace else. They have ways to keep him where he's at. I like the idea that he doesn't have to move again, unless he's moving into a nursing home setting or memory care; that is all offered right there. The unit that he is in doesn't have a dishwasher, but it has a full stove, a full refrigerator, and a microwave. They have different things all the time. They have a pool and a gym area. They have activities every week. This week for the ladies, they're doing a sip and paint. They have different things throughout the week. They give them a sheet in their rooms, and they also have it posted in elevators and different places. They have activities all throughout the day. They also offer in-home therapy. He had an order for therapy, so they're able to do that therapy right there onsite. On Friday, they had a tailgate party for the Iowa State game (which is a big thing here in Iowa). They were able to go down to this general area, have tailgate food, and just kind of hang out. I thought that was kind of cool. The maintenance guy actually took him down because he was working in his room. The value for the money is good."

"Out Mom lived at Fountain West for over 2 years. She did not want to go there but then she loved it there. The staff was wonderful! They fixed her hair, manicured her nails, and treated her with great respect. She was just as happy as possible living there. On her 90th birthday, we presented the nursing home with a rolling popcorn machine in her honor with a plaque on it stating that she donated it to Fountain West. The Director, wearing a straw boating hat, unveiled it! We had a bowling party and popcorn with purple and lavendar (Mom's favorites) M&Ms. Great fun! "

"University Park is nice, but I want more independent care. They are nice and very good people. They are very experienced, and they work really well with the patients. They take the time out to deal with each patient, and I really enjoy them. We have really great food here. It is very well balanced, nutritious, and good. We have activities all the time. We have movies, crafts, and games like the Wii game. We have the nails done in the beauty shop. We have bible study and church. We have a lot of things going on. I will recommend this facility to others. "

"I have been a frequent visitor to Calvin for over 30 years. Although it has had ups and downs, they have a core group of employees who have been doing a great job for years and years. That kind of dedication and longevity is rare in long-term care. Don't let the rather plain setting mislead you. What matters is good care, not fancy furnishings. The Calvin staff knows their jobs and their residents. "

"The Village, Indianola felt like it was a better fit for my dad. It was a larger community, and it seemed like they had more activities. There were more people out socializing than at the other community that we visited. I like the grounds. It just felt like a better fit for his needs. As a visitor, we did have to wear our masks the whole time. The residents that were in the common areas were not required to. They took our temperature and did a screening when we first walked in, so that was good to see that they were following guidelines. I also like the fact that we didn't have to commit to a certain period of time. It's just month to month, so that was huge for us. I also asked if they accept Title XIX if my dad at some point runs out of money, and they said they do take Title XIX waivers, so that was huge, too."

"My mother has stayed in this facility four times in the specialized care areas after hospital stays. The staff is above amazing. Mom was very well cared for by the nurses and aids, the physical therapy team was excellent, and hats off to the chef. The facility is beautiful and well maintained. "I found Arbor Springs for my husband. It's the only one that would take him. He moved there beginning of November. The food is good, the room is good and nice size. They were doing different activities, they have rides to see the Christmas light, decorating and different things. It's fine for what we need. It's expensive no matter what, but it's well-kept."

"This facility is not elegant but it is comfortable and residents have what they need. The staff is friendly and knows its residents very well, giving personal consideration to each one. The food is very good. "

"My parents moved into Karen Acres Healthcare Center. The employees seem to be very caring about the residents. I like that my parents are in the same room, and they have a private bath. The rooms are fine. The building was probably built in the seventies, and the age shows. That's not a high priority for the family, so that's fine. They have a large room. They can put some furniture in it (like two single beds). They have a TV on the wall. My parents seem to be fine with the food. It has a positive atmosphere. I saw the residents watching TV in the early afternoon, and some were out in the dining room. My parents are on private pay. It's much less costly than other places that we looked at."

"My mom moved into the Luther Park Community. The rooms seemed to be nicer than most places. The prices in relation to the rooms are a little cheaper than in most places. The whole facility is at least somewhat memory care-oriented. They have one area that is more locked down for memory care for people who are flight risks. The staff members have been nice so far. They do different things every day. They have exercise programs, movies, and get together. Their activities aren't overabundant."
