About Prairie Vista Village in Altoona, Iowa
We are a senior living community in Altoona, and we offer four levels of living: Residential Independent Living apartments, Assisted Living Apartments, along with Short-term Rehab and Long-term Care. We don’t like to think of ourselves as a typical senior living community or a nursing home — we’re a family. Every resident is treated with care and served with a smile every day. Our boutique style Continuing Care Retirement Community does not require an entrance fee or endowment, but is a month-to-month rental community.
- Residential Independent Living offers roomy apartment residences with one to two bathrooms, and feature a fully-equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, and walk-in closets with optional garages. Monthly fees include two meals per day, weekly housekeeping, internet and cable, scheduled transportation, emergency call system, and all utilities, except telephone.
- Residents who are able to live independently for the most part, but could use help for certain activities of daily living, may find the Assisted Living residences at Prairie Vista Village to be the ideal housing choice. Assisted living residents can receive the same services as offered in independent living, along with assistance with medication administration, bathing/dressing if needed, three daily meal plus snacks and transportation to medical appointments within a 10 mile radius.
- The community also offers health care for those in need of post-surgical treatment, rehabilitation, or long-term nursing care up to 24-hours-a-day and provides professional on-site physical, occupational, and speech therapies to meet the individual needs of residents. Most of these rooms are private, with a private bath and shower.
- Residents also enjoy other community amenities including a coffee bar, wellness center, outdoor patios, walking paths, community room, chapel, library, banking center, and more.
- At Prairie Vista Village, our staff has a philosophy of care that is implemented into the everyday operations. Our philosophy is to include dignity, quality, choices, respect and community into what we provide every day. We always strive to fulfill our vision using the value statement as a guide.

The location of Prairie Vista Village is ideal for me because it's close to two of my sons and I like that the home has a patio, which I like having in my apartment. I like the idea that there are two meals a day included in the rent. The rent was affordable to me and there's a garage. The apartment that I will be in has two bedrooms with a full kitchen and laundry (a washer and dryer). The rooms are all quite spacious, larger than the rooms in the house that I'm living in now. There's lots of light in the rooms. The living room has large windows on two sides and the bedroom also has a large window and lots of closet space. The lady who gave the tour was very, very bright, and very intelligent, and she answered all of my questions exactly the way I wanted to satisfy my curiosity. She was very nice. They have an area where people can plant plants in the summertime if they get the urge to do some gardening. There is a small area for that and there's a walking path around the building.

I looked at Prairie Vista Village. I liked it, but it just didn't have all of that friendly atmosphere that I got at the other place I toured. I saw very few people out of their rooms and in any of the common spaces. And they don't have the same activities that the other place had. I didn't like their stacked washer and dryers, I would prefer the full-sized ones. The staff who took me around was friendly. She didn't show me as many options nor go into as much detail, but she was very courteous and answered all my questions. They serve breakfast and lunch, where I'm going to move, they serve breakfast and dinner, which I liked better.

We had a wonderful tour of the facility. Mackenzie was so friendly and informative about everything. The facility seemed to meet all our expectations.

Prairie Vista Village was very good and the staff was very good and helpful. They gave us information that we needed and answered all our questions. It's only a four-year-old building so everything is very well-kept, clean and nice. We chose the place because it's pleasing, appealing and it's what we needed and wanted. They have plenty of activities.

Prairie Vista Village was very nice, the people were very nice, and I liked everything else. They did have everything very separated. One area was independent living, in another wing was their assisted living, and they also had a wing for skilled nursing.

Mom has settled in Prairie Vista Village. This place is brand new and spotless. It just opened about three months ago. When it was built, they built high ceilings and wide hallways with tons of windows. The staff has been very good. Everybody is very attentive, and when we need something they were right on it. They have single bedrooms with a big open living room area. The kitchen only has a microwave, a refrigerator, countertops, and lots of drawer space. The bedroom is large with a big window, so it has a lot of light. Their dining room is very nice. They sit at the same table every day, and everybody knows them. They call them by name, and they serve them at the table. You have a main meal choice, or you can order off the menu, so that is really good. They play bingo, they have chair exercises, and people come in to entertain. They take them shopping or to their appointments as well. There is a hair salon on the facility where they can get their hair done. They also have a spa and a rehab facility if needed. They have little areas where they have chairs, tables, and puzzles everywhere. They have a conference room where they give talks on different items. Overall, it's just pretty well run. They have little emergency buttons in the bathroom. They all wear emergency buttons around their neck that is connected to the main office, so if they have trouble and they can't get anything, they can hit that button. They are very well taken care of. There is a nurse that comes around every day. There is also interaction everyday, so everybody has been checked on and they make sure everything is alright.

My mother is in Prairie Vista. It is brand new, and it is really nice. She is in the assisted living, but it also has a nursing home. It also has a division where they just rented. She has 3 meals a day. She likes the food. It is close to a clinic. They have a good security. You have to have a code to get in there after 6 o'clock.

Prairie Vista Village was recommended by a family member. It's still under construction on a flat land and will be finished this June. There's individual family living, independent living, assisted living and critical care living. I spoke with the sales representative of the unit only. They have lots of wonderful activities. In the assisted living area, they have a lot of care for you. They'll help you with bathing, take care of your laundry, your room, bed and beddings and everything you need. This will make the easiest living for me.
