"Bickford of West Des Moines was nice, and they had a lot to offer in terms of the level of care. The lady who gave me the tour was really nice. They had lots of social activities. But because this was an assisted living facility, their residents were much older and there was a certain smell. The rooms were really small, too."

"We toured the MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan Creek and my grandmother liked it. It was the newest of all the places we visited. You get the sense of community, but it was more like a hotel atmosphere where she could get room service. They have more luxury amenities like a beauty salon in there that she absolutely loved because she likes to get her hair done. The fact that she could do her hair right there might have been the selling point for her. The assisted living apartments were nice and spacious. They had tall ceilings, which made it feel like they had more space in it. She could even walk all the way through each room so she could do like a lap in there because they were very large spaces, and well-designed too. The staff was very polite. They came right up and brought us coffee. They offered to feed us right there on the spot which we didn't accept because we had just eaten. They treated us like we were members of their community."

"I toured Holland Farms Senior Living in Norwalk and saw their assisted living. It's a little bigger but it's kind of all in one building and sort of spread out. It's a newer facility, there are more activities, and it's more updated. They have all 3 levels of care, from no help to assisted living and memory care units. They have a little more staffing there and there's more of a community type of environment. There are a few more amenities there as well. When we took the tour, there's at least 2 or 3 staff members available on every floor. They also have occupational therapy with speech therapy and a designated room with personnel down there at all times. They had more nursing staff as well. The rooms seemed bigger and newer than the other one I've also toured. This one is more updated. They have a movie theater room where 20 or 24 people can go and watch the latest movie. They have a little social area that has limited drinks there. Whether it's a margarita night that they have or a Mexican thing. They have a campfire night out there where they have a fire pit and stuff that people gather round out there. Then they also have a crafts room, puzzle rooms, baking, and stuff like that. "

"My mom is in a place called Lutheran Homes - King's Gardens Campus in Perry. She's in nursing care. It is a wonderful facility staffed by extremely loving and caring people. They have done a remarkable job of turning my mother's health around. She is feeling so much better since she moved in about 4 weeks ago now. I can't speak highly enough of this community. They do bingo, and arts and crafts. They have performers come in and have musical events. They're integrated with a daycare center so the residents can interact with the children at the daycare center and read to the kids. There are just a lot of different things that they do for their residents. They have a lot of specially built areas for their memory care patients, including a garden where they can plant. They have an auto shop area where the men can tinker with cars and engines. They have a simulated driving area, a movie area, a general rec room with a beautiful bird cage with lots of birds, and then an outdoor patio that's shaded with lots of picnic tables so they can enjoy being outside. There are lots of different spaces for them."

"My dad was at Edencrest at Siena Hills for over a year. We really liked the staff. The apartments were very nice. They had a full-size refrigerator and a microwave. It was like a kitchen, but without the stove. It was very nice. They had a one-bedroom apartment, and it was like a small apartment. The bathroom was very large, which accommodated a wheelchair. Their showers were handicapped accessible. My dad was very happy there. The food was OK. My dad is very picky, and the food could be better. They had exercise classes three times a week. They always had activities, like a baking class. They had a pool table area, where you could play cards. They had a place where you could do puzzles. They had a library. It was expensive, but it was well worth it."

"My husband is in Brio. It's brand new and well-staffed. They always have a nurse or two out there and a lot of well-trained younger people. It's more expensive than others, but everything is included. I didn't have to take furniture or anything. It's all provided. The food is really good and he eats everything. They're nice portions and very tasteful. The gal that gets them to exercise is really good and pleasant. The place is done where he can walk with his walker and go outside. There's always somebody watching him and checking on him when he's in his room. There are only 15 people in that area, and they're all well taken care of. I'm satisfied with what they have. It's the most expensive place here in town, but it's worth it. I was so amazed that there were no additions to my first bill. It was a flat daily rate no matter what. The rooms are large and have big bathrooms and private baths, built-in dressers and television. It's very well done."

"We toured Edencrest at Tuscany for my in-laws. Our overall experience was just what we expected. We met with Kevin, and he explained and showed us what it was all about. He also showed us two options that were available and told us about the 2-bedrooms. Both options were wonderful. It was a nice facility, brand new. I liked all of the services that they were going to provide. It made me feel like they would be safe. Even though they were in independent living, they would provide the call button if they needed something right away. It was not free of charge. But, in the end, that made me feel secure, even though they were going to be independent living. The rooms had lots of light. They had a beautiful balcony off of the living room and sliders that led to the balcony. The kitchen was very roomy and would be easy for them to navigate around even for those with issues with walking or a walker. Their kitchen was just about as big as my kitchen in our current home, so, it was very nice. The closet space was roomy with plenty of room for their personal items. It had an in-service laundry room that was right above the kitchen. It was like the brochure says, beautiful."

"This assisted living facility has been visited by me for searching some better place for my great grandmother. Right from the outset, I found the atmosphere neat and tidy. The reception staff was very helpful in explaining me all the facilities being offered there. Fully furnished rooms, central TV room, kitchen, laundry, transportation etc are few of the facilities available here. Rates are relatively high though but quality of food etc is better as conveyed to me by a resident. People are happy living there and community is a home like atmosphere in general. The staff looked very busy in undertaking routine tasks. The residents have lot many things like chess, snooker etc to keep themselves busy. One of the residents told me that all special occasions are celebrated with full zeal and enthusiasm. I forgot to confirm about the pets, though I did not see any. Overall, the facility is well laid out and home like touch persists. I liked the facility but i would first bring my great grandmother here before formally opting to make her stay. I would recommend it for anyone interested to stay here. "

"We went to Courtyard Estates and checked everything out. It seemed to be good, so we just went with that. Regarding their rooms, I wouldn't call them spacious, but they're very adequate and very nice. I think all of the staff did a very good job. "

"The facility itself is very nice. It is an apartment complex offering various ranges of assisted living services. It is located directly next to a lake that residents can either visit or see from their window if they are on the correct side of the building. The staff is accommodating, but are very averse to any actions that might hinder "routine". There seems to be a rather extensive list of rules for the facility, which can be good or bad, depending upon your preference. The residents are very friendly for the most part and are quite courteous. They will hold doors and elevators for you, and engage in friendly conversation. There is very good parking services for residents, including and indoor parking garage. There is also a little shop in which residents can spend money to buy snacks and other assorted conveniences. In addition, there is a hair salon in the facility. All in all, I would recommend The Shores, but be aware that there are a number of rules and guidelines. "

"The Courtyard Estates assisted living facility looked really well-kept from the outside. We were looking for a suitable place for our aunt to live. The grounds featured nice patio areas that also had ample places to host private parties. The main room had a nice, homey living room feel. We could see from the communal areas that many stimulating activities were taking place, occurring, from reading to games and other resident socializing. They host monthly parties for residents at the facility which they encourage friends and family to attend. Events and outings scheduled include visits to restaurants, art museums, the library, local films and theater. The dining areas featured both communal and formal dining. Food choices were plentiful and all looked nutritious and delicious, as well as the regular snacks - which are offered all day and whenever requested. The staff here are attentive and kind. We could see that all of the residents needs are met and that they enjoy living here. "
