Some of the best things about Bickford of Urbandale were the staff. They were just super. After mom fell and broke her hip, she got the best care there. They were wonderful. They cared a lot about Mom. They kind of embraced her as a family. It was a lovely place to go for her final days because they have a very nice facility, but also a very nice location in the woods kind of. We saw deer and lots of birds. It was fantastic to be able to enjoy that with our mom. She was in a locked facility so she couldn't leave unless somebody was with her. They could keep track of her, but not have to worry about her leaving on her own. She joined in on some activities. She liked music. Sometimes she liked crafts, but she had quite a bit of dementia by then, so she didn't participate maybe as much as she would have. I think I ate there once, and the food was usually very fresh and very well done. They had a lot of options. So if you didn't want or like something, you could have something else or they'd offer you it to you. From the administration down to the janitorial, they were always very helpful and kind and were just there if we needed them. They did some painting and refreshing of the facility. So, it looked very nice and very cozy.

Bickford of Urbandale was well laid-out and easy-to-follow building. Everybody seemed friendly. The apartments seemed nice. They had a good view out of their window, a nice landscape, wildlife birds, and small creatures like that. The rooms were small.

Bickford of Urbandale looked like a nice facility. The assisted living was very nice and it smelled pleasant in there. I didn't get to interact with any of the staff, but the memory care left a bit to be desired. The cleanliness was not upheld as much. It kind of had a bit of a funky smell to the memory care side and it was very dim. It had very low lighting in the memory care portion of it. They go from needing no help to level six, which is needing help to be fed, but they do not do anything that requires a Hoyer lift unless the resident is in hospice. The lady that I spoke to was very friendly. The dining area was very small. They only have a total of 14 people back in memory care. Nothing really to brag about back in memory care. They said that it was pretty much the same from the assisted to memory care, so the residents wouldn't realize that they're in a different part of the facility, but in my personal opinion, they are not all that similar. The rooms are about the same between the assisted and memory care. The rooms weren't bad. They have a window that views the courtyard, so that's pretty nice.

My mother has moved into Bickford of Urbandale. We chose it because it just felt right. It has a really homey feel, and all the staff I met are always very kind. The staff members just seem to fit her needs. They're very sweet. It seems like a really good facility. They have been right there for every need. They're very kind and caring. However, my mother is not as involved with their activities. The activities don't interest her, but they have a very nice courtyard.

I toured Bickford of Urbandale. It's a very nice facility, but I need a place that has Medicaid. Taylor was great. She was very helpful. She showed me everything. She was very convincing and her facility was nice. The rooms were very nice, well decorated, and very clean looking. It may be an older facility, but it doesn't show. The dining area was great. The activity area was good. Everything was top-notch. They have a courtyard and they showed me a list of the activities that are going on all the time.

I liked Bickford of Urbandale very much. It's a little newer. Taylor, the administrator, was lovely and extremely helpful. I liked the fact that it had an enclosed courtyard where the residents could roam outside. They could go comfortably into an area that was protected and isolated from the parking lot. It was a little pricier. They're more than willing to allow me to try the food, as well as to evaluate Mom even before any contract or any agreement was made, or commitment. I was very impressed. The rooms were very nice, clean, modern, and well kept. In fact, they were working, as I was there, on continual maintenance of areas. It was well laid out and actually quite cute.

I liked the feel of Bickford of Urbandale, the people there, and the room we had picked out. Everything about it seems just very, very nice, and it just felt good. They were very willing to deal with my husband's needs. The room had a refrigerator. I had two tours with two different people, and both were excellent, very, very nice, patient, and answered all my questions. I have no reservations about the cleanliness.

My in-laws moved into Bickford of Urbandale. It's been great. It was recommended by the social worker at the hospital. The rooms are spacious. Their maintenance is good. They have a good maintenance staff there that helps tremendously with hanging TV and removing the door and different accommodations we needed. The staff is very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. My in-laws told me the food is very, very good. They're picky, but it's way too much food. Their decor throughout the entire facility is beautiful. It's very accessible for those that need walkers or wheelchairs. The dining area is very nice. The residents sometimes help make centerpieces for the tables as part of their activities. They have a salon, a sauna whirlpool area, and a small raised garden. They participate in a lot of activities.

Bickford of Urbandale was nice. I liked it. I think my dad would've done well there. I liked the layout of the rooms. It felt very homey. The few staff that we met there were very nice. They had a monthly calendar on the wall of different things that they did, and they had people that they brought in to do exercising, dancing, crafts, and things like that. They had a dining area when you first walked in. Throughout the day, they could come down there and sit and play cards or whatever, and then they had a separate dining area where the food was made. We liked it. The price point was just the biggest issue for us that my dad would have a hard time with. They offer full assisted living care, so they offer medication, exercising, and all that stuff.

Bickford of Urbandale is doing a good job. My wife is in the memory care area and the only people who work there are the people that enjoy it. It's very clean and neat. They've got a barber shop and salon where she comes in just every now and then. They're just short on help, but the staff is very good. The dining room is very nice and it's the right size for the number of people that eat there.

My husband has moved to Bickford of Urbandale and it has been wonderful. The only thing negative is that COVID hit them and unfortunately, they had to quarantine to their rooms. Otherwise, they are super above my expectations. He is in respite care there and they went above and beyond to make it comfortable, homey, and make it everything he could ask for. He was so excited that he wanted to buy it. We have respite care for 30 days and then we will re-assess and decide what the next plan of action is. From what I saw, it's excellent, clean, very well-organized, and they were on top of everything. They had everything in order. They had the medical papers and everything they needed on their end to get him admitted. The nurse and the medical staff were great. I cannot complain at all. When we walked in, the first thing we thought of was that it was a home away from home. It did not feel like a nursing home. It felt like we were transitioning him into a new home, that's what he felt too. It has a homey feel instead of a hospital or nursing home feel. My husband says the food is the best ever and he is on board with helping make their cookbook better because he likes to cook. They have him on board trying to figure out recipes. They're trying to give him something to do while he is locked in his room. What they offer, what I have seen, and what I have heard all sounds pretty awesome. But we have not experienced any activities yet.

My mom has lived at Bickford of Urbandale for several years. She thanks me everyday for finding it. The staff is exceptional. Everyone is very caring and kind. They truly love my mother and treat her as part of the family. The activities, food, and cleanliness is outstanding. My husband said he wished that everyone could live at Bickford who needed help. It is a blessing in our lives.

My father moved into Bickford of Urbandale and we love it. It's all on one floor, they have small rooms, but large enough for a TV, recliner, and a queen-size bed, and they encourage the residents to come out of their rooms for all the activities. All the food is homemade, they have really fun activities, and there are so many employees who have been there for 10 years, so it's a good place for the employees themselves. I know all the employees, it's a very hands-on environment, and it's just awesome.

Bickford of Urbandale was very nice. The rooms looked good. They had a little game going on when we were there. The dining area looked very nice and clean. They had transportation activities, games, and the standard assortment of things that I would expect.

My grandmother is at Bickford of Urbandale for several months now. They’re great. It’s nice and clean. It’s welcoming and homey. It was the best out of everything I looked at. The people are always friendly. Care of the elderly especially when they have their mind of their own is difficult, but I think they’re doing a great job. I can’t say it’s perfect, but I’m not dissatisfied.

I liked Bickford of Urbandale because it was small and seemed more personable. When I was there, a musician from their generation had died, so they were listening to his music and singing songs from the era. They were talking and discussing current events in the news. The lady who gave the tour was very thorough. She only showed me one room because I think that was all they really had. I didn’t stay for lunch, but they told me that everything was handmade.

Bickford of Urbandale was an older facility but still very nice. The staff was great, very pleasant and knowledgeable. When I was there, it was lunch time so I could not tell you their activities but I know they have quite a bit of activities. The dining area was very nice. They were doing some remodelling while I was there.

We choose Bickford of Urbandale for my parent. Part of the reason is that it has a reasonable price. It has a very homey atmosphere, and the staff seems to be very active. She is there for a couple of months, and they turn out to be a homey community with active and very caring staff. The food seems to be very good. Everything seems to be fine. They have a little beauty shop there. They have everything that she needs, and they have activities.

Bickford of Urbandale was the best. It was a very nice place. I liked that as they were giving me a tour, they were saying hello by name to the residents, and everybody seemed to be like a family. The rooms were all nice, but all of them were small. I suggested to my aunt that if she decides to come back here, this place would be a good one. The staff was very friendly, including the manager, the physical therapist, and the janitor. They were all nice people. I saw the dining area, and it was also nice.

I visited this facility looking for a place for my mother - soon after I moved her in. I'm so happy I found a place like Bickford for my mom. I know she is safe and happy there. The staff are so responsive and kind. I'm really happy I picked Bickford of Urbandale.

The facility is older, there are certain areas that need updated. In one of the kitchen areas, the cupboards are missing or falling of the hinges. The food portions were small and when someone asked for seconds, the staff replied "we are all out". I didn't really have any staff interaction, they were not overly friendly with me. Both managers were out, which was odd because it was 9am in the middle of the week.

I visited a friend at Bickford. It was an older facility, but the grounds looked fine. It concentrated on memory care, and it was a locked situation. The general areas were like the dining room and the recreation area. He had a studio type room. It was very modest and plain, but it had a bathroom. The staff was fine. One of them was pleasant and very cordial. When I was there most of them were eating, and they could be in different locations besides the dining area.

I visited Bickford of Urbandale, and this facility is very, very nice. We liked it. We had a nice lunch there, and the food is good. We saw several different types of rooms, and they were fine. This facility is pretty convenient for us. The staff was very cordial and wanted to know if they could do anything for us. We also had a nice visit with the director. They have activities, and, in fact, they were having a band or something the day we went there. Overall, I think it's very homey.

I had a visit at Bickford, and I like this facility a lot. The place is really clean and the staff are very attentive. They seemed to have really good activities, but it was very expensive. Another thing about this facility is that when my mom's funds run out, she would have to move to another place because they wouldn’t accept state or federal funds.

While in Iowa, we stopped in on the spur of the moment to see the Bickford of Urbandale while searching for an assisted living facility for our aunt. The staff was happy to show us around, despite the fact that we didn't have an appointment. The grounds around the main door were nicely kept, with flower beds and nicely manicured grass. The interior was inviting and we could smell fresh flowers. The entire décor was quite nice and fresh. They had many scheduled and non-scheduled things to do - from reading to games, discussions, and other stimulating activities. The dining areas were nicely designed and warm. The food looked deliciously prepared, as well as nutritious. The dietician and chef changes up the menu to keep it interesting and encourage resident to make suggestions. The residents are encouraged to enjoy physical activity as much as possible. They may take exercise classes such as yoga and aerobics, or use the weight training and other equipment. They may also enjoy the outer walk ways around the building and courtyard. The private rooms were decorated tastefully with a homey, light and airy atmosphere. Each unit has nice views of the surrounding area. Bathrooms were designed with safety seats and rails. The seniors here really enjoy living here - that was plain to see. The staff is kind, caring and very attentive to all of their needs, whatever they happened to be.
