About Edencrest at The Legacy in Norwalk, Iowa
Edencrest at The Legacy Retirement Community is certified by the State of Iowa. The staff at Edencrest are here to assist our residents with Activities of Daily Living. Some residents may find they do not require any assistance, others may want medication management, assistance with dressing, bathing, hygiene or ambulation. Our unique program allows us to bill for ONLY the services the resident needs. Prior to move in our Health Care Coordinator, RN will complete an assessment with each resident to identify what services are needed. This will allow us to create an Individualized Service Plan.

My tour at Edencrest at The Legacy was very nice. Everything was pretty much included, like the laundry. They had a nice place to eat that's restaurant style and they'd come out to take your order. If you didn't like the special, you could order something else. They had their main area where did their exercises, it's set up like the main sitting area. They did trips, when we were visiting they just got back from taking a tour somewhere to look at the scenery. The room that I saw was a decent size, they have private rooms. They had a salon, it was a nice building. Everything seemed nice and kept up there.

I toured Edencrest at The Legacy for my mom and that one was very nice looking. I went into closer care. It seemed like there was nobody over there, so I didn't see anybody doing anything. The facility itself was beautiful. The food looked great, but she couldn't afford it. The rooms were very beautiful. But she wouldn't have gotten the level of care that she needed. The dining area was beautiful and looked like a restaurant. Their food looked wonderful, too, but I didn't try it. It looked and smelled good. I was there during mealtime, so they weren't doing any activities or anything.

We went to tour Edencrest at The Legacy. It looked beautiful and I like the meal option, but I thought it was too small of a community and they didn't have grounds for the residents to go out and walk around on the trails. Their property was very, very small. That was the place where there were no residents out like milling around and socializing and stuff. Maybe it was the wrong time of day, but it just didn't feel that comfortable. They had beautiful facilities, and the apartments themselves were nice. But it was just too small, and I just didn't feel like it would be a good fit. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, but it just felt more like a sales pitch to me. They were following guidelines as far as checking temperatures and masks and stuff, so they did a very good job of that.

Edencrest at Siena Hills assisted living is fine, she was very nice but if we decide to go to Edencrest, it will not be at this location. Honestly, it's kind of depressing and it has more of a nursing home feel than an assisted living or community living. I know all Edencrest aren't the same, but this particular one, the staff couldn't have been nicer, but it's not going to be the right place for my parents. I would say the atmosphere here is a little slower. We didn't see anybody out in the halls. Their facility is almost full, and yet we were there for an hour and we saw only two people. They say it happens, but we never saw anybody out in groups talking or anything. The person who showed us around was great though and she's been there forever. She's very knowledgeable and she's probably the only bright spot there. Cleanliness was fine, everything was clean, there's nothing dirty about it, but it was outdated. It was just darker colors, more beige, more browns and stuff like that instead of brighter colors or lighting and all that other things to make it cheery.
