I visited this facility

We visited MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan Creek. We just visited assisted living and didn't get into the memory care. We got a tour of the main facility there and I felt like they were a nice community. They had a cafeteria and nice common areas for food and people coming into the residence. It was a pretty good-sized facility. They had different areas like the one where they have their therapy. It looked like a nice and well-kept building. The people who worked there and the residents all seemed to be happy. The staff was good and the one who gave us the tour was nice. We got a chance to meet the director of the community, and she was nice. Out of all the ones that we visited, it was probably one of our favorites in the West Des Moines area.

Provider Response

I visited this facility

We toured the MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan Creek and my grandmother liked it. It was the newest of all the places we visited. You get the sense of community, but it was more like a hotel atmosphere where she could get room service. They have more luxury amenities like a beauty salon in there that she absolutely loved because she likes to get her hair done. The fact that she could do her hair right there might have been the selling point for her. The assisted living apartments were nice and spacious. They had tall ceilings, which made it feel like they had more space in it. She could even walk all the way through each room so she could do like a lap in there because they were very large spaces, and well-designed too. The staff was very polite. They came right up and brought us coffee. They offered to feed us right there on the spot which we didn't accept because we had just eaten. They treated us like we were members of their community.

Provider Response

Michael, thank you for your kind words! We're thrilled to hear your grandmother enjoyed her visit and appreciated the community atmosphere and amenities. Our team is dedicated to creating a welcoming environment, and it's great to know they made a positive impression. We hope to see you both again soon!

MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan Creek is a beautiful complex. It's very nice. It looks very modern. The staff seemed very friendly. The lady who took me on the tour was extremely nice. She took her time and answered everything I asked. As far as the facilities go, they had just about everything you could think of. They had rural areas throughout where you could sit, watch TV, or read a book. Their courtyard was extremely nice as well. They had a lake around there, too, that was very nice and scenic. The rooms were well-equipped and very nice. They had big one-bedrooms if you wanted to live in assisted living. There's plenty of space for two. They allow your pets, too, and that's important to me. The memory facility was very nice as well. It was nicer than I thought it would be. It seemed like they were fully staffed, and everybody seemed very friendly and looked like they took pretty good care of the residents. So I was very impressed with them. They have two levels and an elevator that will take you to each level. It's very handy. Everything goes around a circle so you can't get lost. I believe it leads you right to the main dining area. Another thing that was impressive to me is that they do restaurant-style dining where you order your meal you want, and they cook it, and bring it out to you. So, it's very nice.

Provider Response

Thanks for the fantastic review, John! We’re thrilled you enjoyed your visit and found our community and team to be top-notch. It’s great to hear that our modern amenities and dining options made a positive impression. We appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again soon!

I visited this facility

When we went to MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan Creek and took the tour, they had a big audience. They only handle 55 people, but on the side of the full memory care, there's a big lobby open area, and it was a full audience. They were all listening to the guy playing a guitar and singing, and they all seemed to enjoy it. Then the lady told me that they have entertainment on both wings, or both sides of the building, and whenever they have entertainment, it doesn't matter what side of the building the entertainment is on, you could go to either one. They talked about how the Valley High School jazz band comes in once in a while. I'm familiar with the Des Moines area a little bit and I know a little bit about that school and they've always been topnotch in everything that they do, from sports to music. The first impression you get when you walk in there is that it's like a grand hotel. When you look at it from the outside, you're wondering if you're in the right place until your GPS takes you there. It looks like an apartment building, just like the other apartment buildings are in that area. The facility is only five years old. It's way more modern than any other in the Des Moines metro area probably. They're more expensive over there, but not by a whole lot, and everybody breaks it down by the hour depending on what your needs are. You can order off the menu if you don't like what they're serving. I saw a couple plates and it's kind of a restaurant style deal there. So, if you want to step up to the bar, you can get it from there. I didn't really get a chance to see what the menu was all about, because they were listening to music at the time, but I saw one plate of food and it looked good. It's a two story facility. The walls in level one and level two were color coded. So, I guess that has something to do with the residents if they're on the blue or the green floor or whatever, that helps them. They showed me a couple of model rooms and they were decorated. The first thing I told them was that I could live there. It was a really positive experience. Honestly, I think you're getting what you pay for. They're a little costlier, but once you run out of money at that location, they work to try to find you another community because they don't do Title 19.

We like MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan Creek. It was well-appointed and bright, and the atmosphere was good. The staff knew everyone that we met. They were getting ready for a bus ride. MorningStar at Jordan Creek is one of our favorites. There were more staff around. They do movie night, they were doing a popcorn thing when we were there, and it was friendly. The rooms were a good size and decent depending on how much money you wanted to spend, but for the smallest one, it was a decent size. The menu looked really good. The heavy menu is at noon and then they do it lighter menu at night for the memory care to try to get them settled down. The level of care seemed good. The nurses seemed to know their patients.

Provider Response

Life at MorningStar is an invitation to “more”…more connection, more vibrancy, more love. Thank you for affirming our success in this.

I've toured MorningStar at Jordan Creek. It was really nice, it's just really high-priced. My mom really liked it and she'd love to be there, but it was about $1,000 more than all the rest of them. Their rooms seemed big, they had full-size refrigerators in all of them, and they were really nice. They had rooms where you could video watch church services or sporting events. There was an exercise room, there was a meeting area downstairs that you could rent out for family and stuff if you wanted to have dinner. The staff was really great. They had a library, a big kitchen, and elevators, and the rooms were a good size. The facility itself is in good shape being only five or six years old. Up on the corner is a restaurant, there's a hotel right there, and a strip mall.

If I could get my mother to move, MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan Creek is the place where I would move her. It was very welcoming. The staff was very knowledgeable and the services that they provided for assisted living were exactly what I felt she needed. All the residents seemed to be happy, too. My sister and I thought they had beautiful rooms. The one-bedroom appeared to be very adequate. The only downside was that they have a bar seating for the kitchen, and older folks, in my opinion, would have a harder time crawling up on a stool to sit and enjoy that space, but they were a very nice-sized room. They have the accommodation of having the washer and dryer in their own room or somebody to do the laundry for them as well as cleaning services once a week. When mom visited, she was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to get around. She said the meals were wonderful. She was very surprised at the high quality of the meals. They were very tasty, which is important to her, and if there's something that she has enjoyed eating in the past, she would just let them know and they'll prepare it for the group during one of the meals. They do craft events regularly, religious services, and provide transportation to doctor's appointments, to local shopping areas or if anyone in the group wants to go someplace. They are just very accommodating. The lady who gave the tour knew what she was talking about. She didn't pressure me. It was very, very, very pleasant and she knew what an older person is looking for in a facility.

I like the MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan Creek facility inside, but I didn't like that there's no landscaping. You look outside and you're either looking at the parking lot, or you're looking at two streets. They have a small square on the inside because it's kind of in a circle. Then in the middle they have a sitting area with some flowers. It's just not all that big. People were playing with puzzles, and they had a big theater room. They have a nice big area for when you want to have your whole family in to eat. You have a separate room you can close off, which I like. They had a painting area and popcorn. It seemed like a nice, friendly, and happy place. It was my second choice, if my mom didn't like the one we chose.

Provider Response

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was at MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan Creek. She went to assisted living. It's the same as where she will be going; the only difference is they did not have a skilled unit. The staff was caring and very attentive. They had a chef there that made meals for the people. Her room was very up-to-date, very nice, and very elderly- friendly. They had activities, but she was not well enough to participate. They had an exercise room, a theater, and a podiatrist that took care of toenails. They had good amenities.

Provider Response

Your generous words of praise are much appreciated. It’s our pleasure to serve the heroes of our society.

I was moving into MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan Creek, that's where I would go, but it wasn't for me. The people were terrific, the facility was beautiful, everything was just top notch. It was the weekend, but Kim came in specially to show us the place, and I know they went above and beyond to try to accommodate us. They gave us a basket of goodies, muffins I think they were.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to share your positive experience at MorningStar! We never tire of hearing evidence that we have met and exceeded expectations.

My mom has chosen MorningStar. It is the one she feels most comfortable in. It is bright, shiny, and new. She likes it. They have a theater room for movies. They also do sitting exercises and have Sunday worship services. It is gorgeous and cool. They have a computer area, an area where they can play Scrabble, and a huge area with eight or 10 game tables that have different game settings and puzzles. They have Wii bowling, putting area, massage area, beauty shop, and work out center. It is all in one level in one big area. The place is very nice. The staff is incredible. We met two or three people, and they're excellent. However, this place is expensive.
