I went to The Brennity at Tradition. I looked at assisted living because I found out that independent living is similar to what my mother is doing now. It was like a high-end place; it was like a more expensive place. The rooms were a lot bigger, so the prices were a lot higher. The staff was nice. I was able to look at the dining area, but because of COVID or whatever, they would still say you are not allowed to enter the dining facility. They have the same activities. They have a game room, a room where they play things and stuff, and a TV room. It was a very nice place, but it was out of my paying range.

My mom moved into Wickshire Port St. Lucie last month. Everybody was saying good things about it, and I talked to a couple of the tenants, and they were happy. Everybody seems really, really good especially the head guy, Glen. All the administrators seemed good, and I only got to meet one guy that worked there, and that was on the day we moved her in. His grandma and his aunt both stayed there. Mom’s not happy with the food. There are about eight things every day that they can do, some are repeated, some are once a week, but it was more than enough to do, activity wise.

The facility was old-fashioned and that’s what my mother probably would like. They offered food, but I wasn’t hungry at the time. They gave me some homemade cookies, which were good. The staff showed me everything like the sitting area, the place where they eat, the place where they watch TV, and the place where they play games and stuff like that. The rooms were tiny, but you don’t want them to stay in the room and you want them to get out. That’s the whole idea, not to stay in the room. The tour was very good. The staff was very nice.

Devoline, owner of Treasure Coast AL and her staff have taken wonderful care of my 97-year old mother, Frances, for over two years.
My mother receives continuous excellent care in a friendly, family-like surrounding. She is always groomed and dressed each day and encouraged to participate in activities and conversation. On the occasions when I plan an outing for her, Devoline and her staff always have her dressed and ready,
The meals served are delicious and nutritional. In fact, when visiting around meal time, the meal often smells so good and I think about how nice it would be to stay and join them.
One of the things that offer me the most assurance about the care Mom is getting si that I am able to visit any time. No matter what time I arrive, the house is always neat, clean and free of unpleasant odors normally associated with nursing and assisted living homes. The atmosphere is always warm, caring and serene; I believe it contributes to the ability of the residents to adapt to their new surroundings more easily.
I am very comfortable knowing that my mother is receiving the very best of care and that I don’t have to worry about her when I travel or away from home.
I am also pleased with the fact that doctors and medical care are performed at the residence and that all medications are delivered by a local pharmacy.
During my mother’s tenure at Treasure Coast AL, I have no complaints but have lots of praises. Therefore, I highly recommend Devoline and her staff at Treasure Coast AL as providers of the very best care and quality of life as possible.

My friend has moved into Loving Care of the Treasure Coast. I saw the place and decided this would be the best thing for her. She is one of six residents that stay there on a permanent basis. It’s a home residential care, and it has a large master bedroom. My friend shares a bedroom with another woman. There is a large yard. She gets her meals, she gets her meds, and she has somebody come in and check her blood pressure. I have taken her out a couple of times from the place and brought her back. They’re always willing to assist and to help. They’re concerned about her condition and treat her with respect and care.
As far as I know, all of the rooms are shared. There are three shared rooms with two people in each of the rooms. It is a large enough room, that my friend has her own space, her own dresser and her own closet where her things are. Considering the options that I had of putting her into an institutionalized place and putting her into something that was a little more personal, I decided that she would best fit into this kind of setting. They have activities except there’s Covid going on right now. Each has his/her recliner in the living room for a TV. They have bingo and certain other activities, but with Covid, they have a lot of restrictions.
Generally, I was told that the owner takes them out to Olive Gardens once a month. When I go to visit, I have to wear a mask and I’m only allowed in certain parts of the house. They take my temperature each time I come in, so precautions are being taken. My friend has only been in there for three weeks now, so I assume as Covid gets repressed, there will be more things available for her. I was there when they served breakfast to her, I was there when they offered her a bowl of fruits just the other day, and I thought that was fun. I was there when they had a turkey dinner for Christmas. She is not losing weight and she is not gaining weight, so I assume she is being well fed.
The facility itself is fine. It is a home, not a resort. It is for people who cannot take care of themselves and need 24/7 supervision. My friend fits into that category because she has dementia. I’m very pleased with the situation so far and I prefer it to putting her into an institutionalized place where she would get lost in the shuffle. It’s clean and well kept. It is reasonable and comfortable. This is the only one I went into in person and when I saw it, I said this is the best fit and I didn’t have to look further. They are personable and that’s really important when you’re dealing with people.

My friend had stayed at Avalon Family Resort. It was a very nice place, but he could not get along with the help there. I had to take him out of there when he was only there for a week. I am not blaming the staff, but my friend just did not do well with women taking care of him, he was better off with the men. It was a small community and they only take about six people. The facility was very, very nice and the lady that ran it was excellent and very good to me. She helped me when I had to move Gary and it just did not work out there. When I went there, because of Covid, they would not let me anywhere except for the common area when you walk in, I did not see the bedrooms. It was a nice house. It was very residential and has nice houses around there. I think the staff was fine. Other than the fact that Gary just could not get a long with them, I think they tried to accommodate him, but he just was not cooperative at that point. He was pretty far into his dementia. She gave me a sample of the menu and it looked fine. The dining room was fine, from what I could see from where I was standing at the entry, it was fine. They had a little table where people sat.

COVID-19 Rules for Assisted Living in Port Saint Lucie
Since most COVID-19 rules for Assisted Living Communities and other Senior Living Facilities are set at the state level, you can view the specific rules for your state on our Guide to Assisted Living in FL. Keep in mind that every community has specific policies that they put in place to protect their residents, so you should contact your local community for more information. Additionally, you can contact your local Area Agency on Aging to learn more – find contact information here.
What to Consider About Assisted Living in Port Saint Lucie
Florida’s long-term care facilities, including assisted living communities, are all licensed and regulated under the direction of the Agency for Health Care Administration, Bureau of Health Facility Regulation. An initial inspection is conducted prior to licensure, with follow-up inspections carried out every 2 years to ensure a facility is operating in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Benefits and Drawbacks of Assisted Living in Port Saint Lucie
- Seniors of all interests can enjoy a fulfilling retirement in Port Saint Lucie. Active seniors have access to miles of beaches, numerous golf courses and plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. The city is also home to cultural destinations such as museums, galleries and Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens.
- The average cost of living in Port Saint Lucie is comparable to the U.S. average, which means it’s slightly more affordable than the average city in Florida. While seniors may save on housing and utilities, they may find the cost of their health care services, groceries and transportation to be a bit higher.
- Living in one of the country’s most tax-friendly states for retirees, Florida seniors are not subject to state sales or inheritance tax. The state also doesn’t levy a tax on retirement accounts, meaning all income from Social Security benefits, pensions, IRAs and 401(k)s is tax-free.
- Port Saint Lucie’s subtropical climate brings warm, sunny weather all year long. Winters are snow-free, with temperatures above 53 degrees. It is important to note that the area does experience stormy weather during hurricane season and very hot temperatures in the height of summer that could put seniors at risk for heatstroke.
- Port Saint Lucie is one of the safest cities in the country, which should be reassuring to seniors and their family members. Violent crime rates are especially low, scoring 9.1 out of 100 compared to the U.S. average of 22.7. Property crime rates also fall below the national average of 35.4, scoring 22.3.
