Assisted Living Communities in Stratford, CT

"I went to Just Like Home's Dogwood Home. It was just like home. It's small and intimate. We walked in and there was an activity going on in the living room and it looked like there was a family there. All the residents knew each other. They were very caring and kind and I was extremely impressed. The residents were very involved, and they all seemed content and happy. It just was awesome. There were about eight residents and they all had their own room and their own bath, and all the bathrooms were wheelchair roll-in. You didn't have to step over anything to get into them. You could just get wheeled in with your wheelchair. The staff was pleasant and seemed extremely nice. When I walked in, they were having a Bible study or something, but they were all engaged and happy. They had a living room and there was a backroom to visit with family or something like that, but it seemed like they do most of the activities right there in the living room. The building was excellent. The food looked good. It's all homemade."

"Charter Senior Living of Orange is absolutely beautiful. It has plenty of options for what kind of room, how much care you need, and how big a place you need. However, it was a little over the budget at the time, with what Mom wanted to spend or what she was expecting, so it was a bit of a sticker shock, and so Mom kind of got cold feet with the whole thing. The people who were running the tour were great. They were fine. They did a great job. They showed us everything we needed to see and told us everything we needed to find out. The place was only a couple of years old; it was just a great place."

"I love Maplewood; I thought it was very friendly, modern, and a lot of sunlight. This was a beautiful place. Robyn was good. The food was very fresh and tasty. I would have thought it would be good having my parents eat there; I would have felt they would be in good hands. Nothing was too salty and it felt conscientiously prepared. The rooms were nice. They had an exercise room. They had a person that comes and helps and a nurse on call. They had a calendar of activities like they took the residents to trips like the casino and to the theater. It seemed great. If I could afford it, I would put my mom and dad there. "

"I love the Spring Meadows by Monarch. It was clean and bright. The decor was amazing. They had that soothing blue. And the residents that we passed by were really pleasant. They were all so very happy. The room itself was just amazing. It was a perfect fit for what I was looking for. The sales manager was extremely nice and very informative in terms of the community, especially the activities that are offered. It was nice. The receptionist was amazing, and the nurses that walked by were very well-mannered and very pleasant."

"Sturges Ridge of Fairfield was excellent. The tour was great, and the staff was great. Because it's assisted living, they didn't have full kitchens in any of the apartments. They also didn't have a washer and dryer. You have to be willing to eat the food that they have. The washer-dryer was also a problem for my sister. She did not want to move into place without her own washer dryer. Other than that, it was quite a nice place. It's nice that it was in Fairfield and close to the downtown area. They have active social schedules where they take you on excursions. They also have a valet parking garage that hooks into an elevator right up to your floor. I think it makes it very easy for you if you still drive. The staff that toured us was very friendly, knowledgeable, answered our questions, and showed me everything that I wanted to see."

"What a beautiful community, they have kept our family member safe while providing wonderful care and lots of activities. Such an amazing, thoughtful and considerate staff."

"I toured Charter Senior Living of Woodbridge. It was a good experience. However, at that time, they didn't have enough staff. They were in the process of redoing the whole place, so there were a few little glitches about the staff. The food was good though. The rooms were really nice and big. The upkeep of the place was OK."

"I visited coachman square with my mother a week ago. This community is incredible! Everyone interacted with each other. The staff is amazing and caring. I spoke to one of the residents and she raved about the place. She had visited several places before she picked coachman and she knew this was her place to move to. They are redoing the interior with new carpet and updated furniture in September. We ate lunch and the food was completely fresh. The dining director came out to meet us and he explained the menu, diets and what he would do to help my mother with her diet restrictions. Leslie, who toured us was knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile! She answered every question we had. She showed us 2 apartments and they are huge! Bigger than all of the other places we went. The bathrooms are big and my mom will have no problem with wheelchair access. She introduced us to the executive director who has been there for many years. She was so wonderful. She also answered questions we had. They have a robust calendar of activities. They also have outings to museums, Mohegan sun, pet therapy, and exercise programs related to specific areas like arthritis and other conditions. They are going to have support groups once a month soon. The place is clean and inviting. Pricing is inexpensive for what you get! I am definitely going to bring mom here. She was so excited! Thank you Leslie and her staff for being so warm and welcoming"

"I visited The Village at Mariner's Point, and I thought it was great. I liked the place, the staff, the variety of rooms, and the location. They had a swimming pool, a library, a theater room, a nice dining area, a lobby that had a piano, a nice view of the water, a salon for haircuts, a bar, and an exercise room. She would be independent, and she would get services for help with medications and bathing."

"We visited Brookdale. The folks were very nice and accommodating. It was fairly good also. The rooms were very similar to the place where my aunt was. I didn't dine there, and the dining seemed a little smaller, but it was pretty clean. They had the same activities as the place my aunt was in. Everybody was very polite. They showed me the room. They answered all my questions. I would have moved my aunt there if I had to. "

"I saw a friend from church at Maplewood at Strawberry Hill and he liked the food there (he was a guy who liked to eat). It was a very nice place. The environment was very beautifully appointed with all the colors and large windows. My friend's apartment was very small. It was a studio size. He said he didn't need to have more than one room because he'd just go in there to sleep. He had a chair in the room, but it was very tight. He had a twin bed. The bathroom was built to accommodate people who had problems walking or standing in the shower. It was kept clean. It was a very wonderful environment. I didn't interact with the staff, but my friend said he liked them. They have a big room where everybody watches television with all the wheelchairs, and people are sitting around. The TV was huge. There was no other activity."

"It is a very nice property. I think it is very professional and very well done. The woman who showed us through was very good. It was a very productive visit. In terms of serving the needs that are at hand, it's a very possible candidate. The rooms were good, but they were a little small. "

"I liked the Maplewood at Newtown. It had several floors and they designed it nicely. The rooms, the hall, and the carpet on all the floors are the same. As people decline, they put them on the lowest floor, and they have no idea that they changed rooms or areas. That was very impressive. The staff was very nice. They talked to us and showed us the brochures. They showed us the rooms and explained everything. I had a good impression. They showed us the studios, but I was interested in a one-bedroom. They had a beautiful library, a TV room, and a sitting room. Name it and they have it. In case you want anything special, you just tell them, and they do whatever they can for you."

"My father moved into Maplewood at Stony Hill. It's very clean. There is a smell there, but that can't be helped. They seemed to be on top of things. They were able to straighten up my father's medications, for which he would be agitated at times and had issues with. They have a doctor who comes a couple of times a week, and he was able to be seen by the doctor. The doctor adjusted the medication. So, knock on wood, everything seems to be going OK. I went there on Father's Day and they had all the residents in this one large room, and they were waiting for some sort of entertainment. They also shared with me videos of him dancing. It seems like he's enjoying himself."
