Nursing Home Communities in Bridgeport, CT

"I dealt with Astoria Park when I went in there to get paperwork. I asked some questions about the facility, and I saw residents outside. Years ago, my grandmother was in there, and they have a fairly good reputation. The staff were pleasant, and they had a lot of activities. They have a good relationship with the community, and I would recommend them. "

"My initial concern while looking for the most appropriate place for my parents assistance living facility was the fact that the only insurance she had was Medicare. I was never so impressed with a place as I was with Park City Residential Care. My sister, cousin & myself had been making the rounds looking at various places and were delighted to find this place for her. It is disturbing to read the sentences "The zipcode (06604) in Connecticut, where Park City Residential Care Home is located, has a below average safety rating based on recent crime statistics." I have lived in Bridgeport all my life (70+ years), and know the area well. The building is next to a homeless shelter also, however in the entire time my mother was living there, I was never concerned for her safety because immediately upon entering the building, there were friendly staff at the counter monitoring the comings and goings of residents and staff. One time when I entered there was urine in the elevator, which I informed the staff before I used the elevator. Upon leaving my visit, the elevator was cleaned & fresh smelling. I have visited fancier facilities that always had a urine smell in them, but I have never been there when I smelled anythingdistatsteful. Not only did the cleanliness impress me, but the way the staff went out of their way to integrate residents into the group to help make them feel more comfortable. I visited the home almost daily, remained in contact with staff if ever there was a question I had and never had cause for concern. They were by far the nicest, most caring people I could have found. "The Watermark was a very big community. We only talked to the sales person who was very nice and talked about finances. She explained the pay plan first, which was probably better because just looking at numbers, there was no way that my parents-in-law could afford it, so the meeting was short. She was very polite and explained the services. She showed us pictures of the cottages, and the social program seemed very rich. There were certainly plenty of things to do. She mentioned different classes, like language programs where you can learn a different language, concerts, speakers, and some person from a TV show that was supposed to visit and host some series of lectures. The grounds were nice and well maintained. The lobby and dining room were nice and had a country club feel with beautiful furniture and an atmosphere of luxury. There was nothing that I saw that I didn't like. "

"I visited this facility in order to check in on a friend. It was clean and well maintained but many of the rooms were large communal rooms with up to 8 beds occupied. Once outside the rooms into the common areas, it was nice. there are several areas where residents can go to visit with family or friends and have a pleasant discussion. My only criticism is the larger rooms. I spoke with the nurse with my friend's permission and they were very helpful. "

"My mother-in-law resided at Bridgeport Health Center for many years. The place itself was depressing as most are.Its hard to be more than a hospital setting while keeping a sterile and medically necessary type of environment. I feel they could do more to give the place a warmer feel. The staff though was genuinely helpful, kind, and caring, which is not something I normally think of when I think of a nursing home.Even though the center was not the most appealing to the eyes, the patients all seemed well cared for, and cared about. Most were dealing with severe illness yet the staff and nurses worked hard to keep everyone in good spirits. There were many activity to distract from the reality of the nursing home, and in general I would say that Bridgeport Health Center is better than most, yet could still stand some improvements. "

"My mother is at The Jewish Home in Bridgeport. The care she's getting, so far, is very good. The staff is very kind, friendly, and helpful. The room is very nice, the size is adequate and she's happy there. I'm also happy with everything, I can't say anything bad about it. She's also very happy with the food. The facility is clean and well maintained."

"The staff are very responsive and attentive and caring. The facility is clean and the grounds are pretty. The food is okay but my dad was on a salt restricted diet so they were great about following that."

"The Jewish Home for the Elderly is an excellent nursing home where my grandmother has stayed for 5 years. She's checked on regularly, her health is closely monitored, and has a wide variety of meals to choose from. While the facility primarily serves Jewish elderly, my grandmother has been Christian her whole life and has never been judged. She would say she is unhappy but she hasn't taken full advantage of the benefits of JHE, including the outdoor courtyard and gardens where families can eat out with them, or go for a stroll. They also organize live performances from local musicians and actors. Last fall, they had a Rat Pack Tribute perform and it was a big hit. She also has a few nurses who have taken to personally visiting her for a few hours each day. She may have to move into a shared room, but I think it will do her some good to get a roommate. "

"The staff of Lord Chamberlain was wonderful to my grandfather. He was very disappointed to have to go to a facility before returning home after a fall. However, the caregivers at Lord Chamberlain took extra special care of him! I cannot thank them enough! "

"The staff was diligent and well trained. Care was given in a caring and compassionate way. PT sessions were conducted on regular basis and tailored to the individuals needs. The food was served in a clean and open setting with residents encouraged to mix together. The diversity and portion size was adequate but not great. They tried to do rotating meal choices but it was difficult as many of the residents were there for extended times. In a situation like this nearly anything becomes repetitive.The facility was aging. Flooring and wall coverings and treatments were aging and wearing. Equipment was available for medical care use but was aging as well.Security was acceptable but was mainly for keeping the residents from wandering away rather than to keep outsiders from entering ( not viewed as a problem).My mother in law was there for about six months as she recovered and rehibilitated from surgery. I would rate the entire facility / staff as the middle of the scale but it was convenient for my father in law and affordable. All in all it was a safe and acceptable place that allowed my mother in law to recover and did not break the bank. "

"The staff at Bishop Wicke Health & Rehabilitation Center is excellent. They're very professional, always pleasant, and very prompt with any questions. I have no complaints whatsoever. The facility is very well kept up, very clean, and very welcoming. The grounds are beautiful too. They go out of their way to make us as comfortable as possible during the pandemic, which is surprising as it's a very difficult thing to do. They try to accommodate my mom as much as possible during the pandemic so that she can see her family. They have a lot of different activities. They have indoor activities and they're starting to have outdoor activities. They've done bingo, crafts, and outdoor activities for Mother's Day. My mom mentioned music, game playing, and some dancing that didn't include family because of the pandemic, but they are saying that they will be able to include more family eventually. I know that they said that before the pandemic, they were able to have picnics outside with the family, but as of now, they have not been able to do that. We have not been able to sample the food as family members, but my very fussy mom, says the food is very good there. We've made a couple of requests that my mom enjoys and they accommodated. They told us to just ask and as long as it's safe within her medication list, she can have it. I think we are getting what we're paying for. She's getting good care, everyone is very friendly. They remember, not just my mom, but each one of my sisters and me. They remember our names and who we are. They remembered to tell us my mom's needs especially because my mom has dementia."

"My mother is in Milford Health and Rehabilitation Center. She's in long-term care. We chose it because it's close to me. Everyone there is very nice. The layout is nice. They have a dining area, which they don't use right now because of Covid. They have a covered area where they can go sit outside. It's nice there. It's not very big, and I like that. We're not able to go in her room because of Covid, and she has a roommate. She likes the food, and she's happy there. There's a church, and she supposedly goes to church on Sundays. They have an area where they play games, but I don't know what's going on right now. The staff is very nice."
