Nursing Home Communities in Stratford, CT

"I visited this facility in order to check in on a friend. It was clean and well maintained but many of the rooms were large communal rooms with up to 8 beds occupied. Once outside the rooms into the common areas, it was nice. there are several areas where residents can go to visit with family or friends and have a pleasant discussion. My only criticism is the larger rooms. I spoke with the nurse with my friend's permission and they were very helpful. "

"I went to this place because my friend was in an accident. He fell on the bleachers and injured his head. The place was really far from where I live but I went with a few friends. It was my first time going to a place like this. I thought the smell was gonna be like old people. It did not smell bad. My friend said the food was good and he really liked the rehab he was getting. He said the staff really worked him hard and he feels like he can soon go back home. Also they have a lot of outings they go to each week. I was surprised to see so many young people there as well. The place looked like it could also be a good place to work. All the workers were very friendly and act like a family. They bring in home cooked meals to share with the people. My friend said he really liked one of the workers homeade chocolate cookies. My friend gets up every morning to eat breakfast with the other people. He said if it wasn't for a few people his age at the place he probably would be kind of depressed. I guess a lot of young people these days have freak accidents But thank GOD for a place like this where they can go to get therapy and get back to a normal way of life. He cant wait to get back to the dorms and be like we were before. He said he will go back to visit the workers once he is released because he will miss them. I can see how he will. They are all so nice even to the visitors. "

"The staff was diligent and well trained. Care was given in a caring and compassionate way. PT sessions were conducted on regular basis and tailored to the individuals needs. The food was served in a clean and open setting with residents encouraged to mix together. The diversity and portion size was adequate but not great. They tried to do rotating meal choices but it was difficult as many of the residents were there for extended times. In a situation like this nearly anything becomes repetitive.The facility was aging. Flooring and wall coverings and treatments were aging and wearing. Equipment was available for medical care use but was aging as well.Security was acceptable but was mainly for keeping the residents from wandering away rather than to keep outsiders from entering ( not viewed as a problem).My mother in law was there for about six months as she recovered and rehibilitated from surgery. I would rate the entire facility / staff as the middle of the scale but it was convenient for my father in law and affordable. All in all it was a safe and acceptable place that allowed my mother in law to recover and did not break the bank. "

"My mom stayed there for about five or six months. I was very pleased. The food was good. It was very clean, it smells very nice, smells very clean, it did not smell like a nursing home. They were very professional, very cordial, and they treated mom and the family with respect. I really liked them. They gave me great advice. They were very direct with most of my questions. "

"I dealt with Astoria Park when I went in there to get paperwork. I asked some questions about the facility, and I saw residents outside. Years ago, my grandmother was in there, and they have a fairly good reputation. The staff were pleasant, and they had a lot of activities. They have a good relationship with the community, and I would recommend them. "

"My initial concern while looking for the most appropriate place for my parents assistance living facility was the fact that the only insurance she had was Medicare. I was never so impressed with a place as I was with Park City Residential Care. My sister, cousin & myself had been making the rounds looking at various places and were delighted to find this place for her. It is disturbing to read the sentences "The zipcode (06604) in Connecticut, where Park City Residential Care Home is located, has a below average safety rating based on recent crime statistics." I have lived in Bridgeport all my life (70+ years), and know the area well. The building is next to a homeless shelter also, however in the entire time my mother was living there, I was never concerned for her safety because immediately upon entering the building, there were friendly staff at the counter monitoring the comings and goings of residents and staff. One time when I entered there was urine in the elevator, which I informed the staff before I used the elevator. Upon leaving my visit, the elevator was cleaned & fresh smelling. I have visited fancier facilities that always had a urine smell in them, but I have never been there when I smelled anythingdistatsteful. Not only did the cleanliness impress me, but the way the staff went out of their way to integrate residents into the group to help make them feel more comfortable. I visited the home almost daily, remained in contact with staff if ever there was a question I had and never had cause for concern. They were by far the nicest, most caring people I could have found. "

"I’ve been to The Watermark a couple of times; I loved it. It has all kinds of things going on there: swimming, exercise, and computers. It’s very nice-looking, but you have to buy into it, and I can’t do that. The rooms were very nice one-bedrooms with a kitchen, living room, dining room, and bath. They had meals, and the food was very good; I’ve been there for lunch, and I really liked it. The staff treated me very well. The place is wonderful; I’d move in there in a minute, but I can’t afford it. "

"Bishop Wicke was a nice place and I liked that it was all in one floor. You walk in and it feels like you’re walking into little apartments. The location though was not good for my dad. "

"Very professional, comfortable environment. The staff is without exception very kind. This is an activity oriented facility, so if your person is anti-social or not able to participate at all it is not the place for him/her, although the staff does work with the individual to acclimatise and engage them. "Day Care" is a misnomer however, it is not analogous to child day care where you leave your child for the workday. It is more of an opportunity for the person to be socially stimulated. More "nusery school" than "day care"."

"My mom was there for about 4-5 weeks s/p hip replacement. She was welcomed to Milford rehab by LeeAnn who was great with communication and admission. She also had many nurses, CNA's and Physical therapist's that took the time and gave my mom 100% in her recovery. I appreciate the EXCELLENT communication that she had from admission to her discharge. My mom was very pleased by most of the staff and is planning on coming back in the future for her TKR in October. Thanks again to everyone and we appreciate everything with her recovery. JHF Elderly offers a safe, clean, supportive environment for all patients.Aides, nurses, social workers, medical personnel and administrators are attentive and very responsie. "Last year my grandfather began living here. There is a nice dining room that serves decent food. Its relatively inexpensive if a family member wants to pay to eat dinner there. The staff has always been extremely polite and caring. They take all of the necessary health and safety precautions. I believe they are required to wash their hands between patients room. This greatly reduces the chances of spreading germs from one patient to another.There are grab bars everywhere in his room. The shower has a bench so that my grandfather can still shower independently. There are also lots of activities offered at St. Joseph's manor. My Grandfather regularly plays cards, and bingo. I know some of the ladies have a knitting/sewing club. There are occasional opportunities for bus trips and shopping trips. The facility does a wonderful job allowing the residents to remain as independent as possible, while keeping them safe and feeling valued. "

"My Dad has been at Apple Rehab in Shelton for 3 years. They are wonderful. I have only witnessed staff treating residents and visitors with dignity, respect and care. They really are extended family The facility is clean and well run. During Covid the facility, administrator and staff took quick measures to protect patients, residents and staff. The weekly communication was helpful. "
