My brother has been at Van Mall for a year and a half now. They help him with showers and change of clothes every day. They come in two times a day and give him his meds. The staff has been wonderful. They're all very nice. I think they're wonderful. They have a lot of things you can do. They have little parties for different holidays, dinners, and little things outside in the summer. They have different games. They take them for different rides if they want to go. They take my brother to the doctor on certain days, and that helps a lot. The food is wonderful. I've eaten there with him quite a bit and I think it's great. They have a good cook.

We toured Van Mall Retirement. It was somewhat modern. It was clean. It seemed very well-organized. The meals, the activities, and the space seemed very spacious for the amount of people that were there. The people that we passed that are living there, seemed very happy. I don't think we passed one person who didn't acknowledge the woman who was giving us our tour. I thought that was special and unique. It was a safe environment. The lighting was good. The one-bedroom apartment we looked at, the floor plan of it was acceptable. It would be a huge adjustment for my parents. It was large enough that it could hold some of their furniture and that it would be fairly easy to make it homey. The kitchen facility was more than adequate. The refrigerator was a decent size. The pantry was more than what they would need. It was just suitable for a couple or, or even for a single person. The grounds were very pretty. There was a beautiful courtyard. There was a place to do gardening, and there was a library. It just seemed very accommodating for my parents and anyone that wanted to be there. We looked at the menu and that particular location is set up like restaurant style so that the people living there can go in and order from an actual menu, which is pretty special, I think.

Van Mall was very nice and the apartment was nice, but it's near a mall. There were trees, and it's a more dense population, so it doesn't get natural light. The staff was wonderful and the tour person was very professional and very caring with a lot of empathy. They can relate with what the children are going through. They had good food.

I liked Van Mall. The place was very nice and very welcoming. The person who showed me around knew more about what I was looking for. She gave me more information than I usually get when I'm touring, so I was very pleased with her. I picked up their brochure and it showed me everything that they had, but I didn't notice any specific activities. They did have an activity room. Its location is very close to the shopping center, which I like, because I don't have a car anymore, and I could easily take my scooter over there to shop.

Van Mall was fine. The staff was friendly, but the rooms were rather small. It was very overpriced.

One of the nice features of Van Mall was that we were looking for a continuum of care. They have independent living, assisted living, and memory care as well. We thought that was a good concept. The thing that struck me about it was having to move into a much smaller space. I felt awfully cramped in this place. They have pretty much all the standard kinds of things. They offer transportation, trips to places, there was a pool table, they had a bunch of different groups, people who are interested in playing Bridge or Pinochle, that sort of thing. They have a small library for people who want to read. They were not as fancy as some of the other places I went to, but they had perfectly pleasant surroundings. I didn't meet much of the staff except the one person who took us on the tour. There was no big interaction between me and the rest of the people. There weren't activities that particularly interested me.

My mom is in assisted living at Van Mall right now. It is really like being in a fancy hotel instead of a retirement place. They have multiple choices of food, not just two, and the dining room is like a restaurant with linen tablecloths. It's a good place. They have more amenities and activities than any other place I visited. They have a little gym area with chair exercises and bikes, and there is somebody in there who can help you all day long. They have six to seven activities a day, like art and games.

I got a very happy feeling frpm Van Mall. The decor was very upscale, the people were very nice, and the dining room looked great. We really liked the floor plans of the rooms, which had two bathrooms. It seemed like a homey, little apartment. The staff was very friendly and nice, and the girl we talked to had been there for 10 years.

When I walked into Van Mall, it was like walking into a very comfortable cozy home. The people there were happy, laughing and talking together -- not only the employees but the people who lived there. It just presented itself as a very welcoming place. We liked it because it was very homey, and it had very friendly people. They had an exercise room. There was a lady leading several of the people who lived there in drumming, and it was very beautiful listening to them. They had their movie room. I thought my mother would really enjoy there.

Van Mall is the one that I’m considering for my brother. I like the family atmosphere, the good competent staff, and its nice facility. I would give them a 4, but there are some things that they do not include.

We didn't like Van Mall as much as the other place we visited. It didn't have a pool nor a wide range of activities. The rooms were fine.

Van Mall was a little rundown and needed some exterior maintenance. The staff was knowledgeable, but they were writing notes out of sight of us, so it seemed like they were hiding things. They were odd.

She was at Van Mall for four years. The rooms were good -- nice spacious rooms -- and the staff for the most part was great. The situation with my grandmother was she was on all of their services, and things didn't get done all the time. Yes, I would recommend.

Our dad lived in Van Mall Retirement. It was very nice and beautiful. The food is great, and they have lots of activities like watching movies. They were wonderful and very helpful. My dad is pretty happy and satisfied there. The place is very well kept, and it is nice place to be.

Van Mall is a fabulous community. The staff would bend their backs to do anything; they are great. They are very caring, and they know my step-mom's first name, who she is, and where she belongs. We have eaten there several times, and it's great. Their dining room is like a restaurant. Their menu changes daily, weekly, or monthly. She has an apartment, and it is beautiful. They do have all kinds of activities -- anything from going to the symphony to gong to the mall to shop. My stepmother has early Alzheimer's, and she is in a specific group aimed at activities for her needs. There are four other ladies in that group, they have one staff member who does memory exercises, and that kind of thing with them. She spends at least two hours a day at that group, and it's wonderful.

My mother is a current resident of Van Mall. I like their pricing and I like the facility. It isn't too big like some of the others. It has a lot of activities that she is interested in and so that was the one that I chose. The facility has independent and assisted living. Unlike some of the other facilities that just looked huge and really more catered to independent, this one caters to both and they engage in the activities together. It also has a combined eating area as opposed to a different eating area for independent versus dependent. It has a beauty salon. They have activities for people who need more assistance like my mother and for people that need less assistance. This facility has activities in the evening, which is important because often times seniors are lonely at night. It also has performers that come into their activities room. They have birthdays that my mother would get involved in. One thing that they have which I was unable to find anywhere else was that they have the thing called Life Enhancement. It is for individuals that need a little bit more one-on-one with their activities. This is a group of about seven women and they would get together in the morning, they would do light activities, etc. My mother looks forward to that. However, they don't have a two-person assist. When my mother was starting to need that service, as it turned out, they just put some physical therapy in place for her. However, if they would be able to accommodate a two-person assist, maybe the family would be willing to pay that additional cost rather than move their loved one. Regarding the staff and their care, some are more caring than others. I think most of them are in there for the right reason. However, what is really noteworthy is that the administration takes that very seriously. If there is any indication that somebody is being inappropriate or rough, they try to get to the bottom of that with re-training or whatever they need to do, so they're very responsive to the concerns that are raised.

I'm very well taken care of from where I am. I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever. I am at Van Mall retirement and assisted living. These people take loving care of me and I have almost died a couple of times. They take care of me.
