What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
We require our staff to be certified in Personal Approach to Care and EssentiALZ from the Alzheimer's Association.
Describe the overall population of assisted living residents at Red Oak Memory Care. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?
We serve folks, typically in their 50s and up, who are seeking a residential home environment and need assistance with activities of daily living and memory care. We provide private bedrooms with exceptional caregiver to resident ratio.
What programs or activities does Red Oak Memory Care offer to enrich residents' well-being?
We offer a variety of programs designed to stimulate all senses. We try to offer other activities based on the personal preference of the resident.
What places are near Red Oak Memory Care or within walking distance for assisted living residents to enjoy?
We are almost centrally located with easy access to major streets and freeways such as highway 281 and 410. Due to our location we are within minutes from the San Antonio International Airport and many restaurants and shopping centers.
What transportation services does Red Oak Memory Care offer to assisted living residents?
Transportation can be arranged through a third party vendor at the request of the resident or legal guardian.
What makes the chef or dining program at Red Oak Memory Care exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?
We provide home cooked meals that are prepared by our staff under the guidance from a Nutritionist to ensure our residents get good nutritious home cooked meals.
What safety features or security measures does Red Oak Memory Care offer to assisted living residents?
We have several programs in place to ensure our residents are in the safest environment possible. Our home meets ADA accessibility by providing ramps, grab bars and hand rails where required. We have a fall prevention program augmented with the use of bed and chair sensors to minimize falls as much as possible.
How does Red Oak Memory Care keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?
We encourage family and friends to keep communication lines open to keep them informed of what's going on with their loved one via telephone or electronic mail.
What is the care staff-to-resident ratio at Red Oak Memory Care during daytime and nighttime hours?
Our exceptional care staff to resident ratio during the day is 3/4 residents to 1 caregiver during daytime and 6/8 residents to 1 caregiver at nighttime and a Registered Nurse on call.
If Red Oak Memory Care accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?
We do not accept cats, dogs or any other pet that require additional time and resources from our staff. Our sole focus are our residents.
What ongoing senior care training does the staff receive?
We provide training in care giving, first aid, body mechanics, resident transfers bed/wheelchair, etc. Our training is provided by our Experienced Registered Nurses.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
During daytime we average 2-3 staff members. One staff member is a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). At night time we have one caregiver and have one Registered Nurse on call available to assist over the telephone or in person at the facility.
What safety features or security measures does Red Oak Memory Care provide to protect residents who wander?
We have installed sensors throughout our facility in windows and doors to alert staff when a door or window is opened to stop wandering by our residents. On admission each resident will be issued a GPS tracker to track in real time a resident's location in case the resident was able to wander away from the facility.
What programs or activities does Red Oak Memory Care offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
Our activities are based on research. We try to stimulate the resident's brain by stimulating all their senses. We employ Music and Memory care, Aroma Therapy, Fidgeting blankets, Fiber Optic lamps. In addition we promote self worth and dignity by allowing residents, whenever possible, to engage in other activities such as gardening, baking, board games, movie matinee, or walking using our walking path in our back yard.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Our Registered Nurses do a full comprehensive assessment upon admission and every six months. Our nurses' daily or weekly interaction allows them to observe and report to the resident's Primary Care Physician of any sudden changes to health or cognition.
What techniques does Red Oak Memory Care use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
Positive Approach to Care, hand under hand has proven to be effective and gives a sense of normal feeding to a person.

We can communicate with family and friends as directed via telephone call or electronic mail.
