"I went to The Forum at Lincoln Heights. What I like most about The Forum are the amenities that it provides. It was clean and the location is close to shopping and churches. There's a covered heated pool where they do exercise. The staff is very knowledgeable and concerned about things that my mother likes."

She feels at home in this house and can rest assured she is given the best care she can. Shirley has gone out of her way to find doctors that will work with her insurance. "My wife moved into Brookdale Hollywood Park. It's a very nice establishment. It's home-like. It's like private apartments. We're pleased with that. She has a private space, and she has three meals there, and other opportunities. She's very inactive physically and spends most of the time in the room, and we are pleased with the way the staff takes care of her. They offer art classes and film and television viewing. The staff is supportive, competent, and present when needed. The facility is clean and well-maintained and seems fresh. I'm pleased with her being in that environment."

"My dad moved into Discovery Village Stone Oak. This community had a room that met his size requirements and had the space for him. He enjoyed the people he met and the staff who helped him with the transition. They recommended a very good mover to him who moved his belongings from his home to his new apartment. And he enjoys the community he lives in. He made friends. He likes talking to the people there, having meals with them, and doing other things. They have three meals a day. Not only is there a fully posted activities calendar with reminders and things going on all the time, but what really impressed me about this facility, I'm sure it can't be that way, but they've changed the decorations every time we walk in there - seasonal decorations, sporting decorations, not just in one or two places. I mean, wall panels, photographs, football season, Halloween - they do a very good job of keeping people aware of what is going on. I think the decorations help keep people aware that there's a lot still going on out there. However, the move-in process was a little chaotic because at the last minute, I kept finding out things that I suddenly had to produce in terms of documentation, doctor's notes, or things like that. That really caught me off guard for the 24 to 36 hours before he moved in. That was extremely hectic and very bothersome. Other than that, my dad enjoys the meals. He enjoys his living. The access is easy. The staff are friendly and outgoing, and they make every effort to help him and me. It's been an extremely good fit."

"I toured Franklin Park Sonterra. The community is beautiful, and it has multiple amenities that would make people feel very comfortable. The residents that were there were very friendly and welcoming. And they had a lot of security features that were also very nice. It looks like a wonderful property. The staff were very nice and very helpful. I liked their apartments. They were very spacious as well as suited for senior living. They had modern appliances. They had everything that would make all the conveniences and make living very easy for your loved ones."

"I moved to Independence Hill Retirement Community in San Antonio. I'm in their independent living community, and I like it very much. It has quite a list of activities that are available. The food is much better than the previous community that I was in. I have a lot more room. It's nice to have a full kitchen, my own washer and dryer, and an outdoor space with a small patio. The facilities here are very clean and well-kept. The staff is very congenial and very helpful. I enjoy being on the wake-up call list. In other words, they check on me once a day to make sure I'm doing all right. There are day trips to different activities and events in the area, and dining out, where they take you out to different restaurants. I still drive, so I don't need to get help going to appointments and things, but I do know that it's available, too. They have a theater, a pool, two different libraries, arts and crafts activities, and their own beauty salon. There are a lot of different amenities here, plus there's a home health care agency that has an office in the main building. They provide two meals a day, and then there is an option to take a third meal if you pay an extra fee. The grounds are very nice, with mature trees and flowers. It's much more pleasant than where I was before this."

"We chose Adante Assisted Living for mom because the place was very friendly, very clean, and there were no bad vibes. Everybody's just great and nice. They're very informative. The food is excellent. They have a chef on site, and he makes everything from scratch. They're always doing something. They have a salon, a pool, a clubhouse, a gym, and washers and dryers. They've got everything that you would need. It's very nice."

"We have moved my mother into the assisted living section of The Haven & The Laurels in Stone Oak. The place is very comfortable and home-like. The staff is engaged and caring, and my mom likes the food. Amenities include a beauty shop, activity room, and an exercise facility."

"I toured Lynridge of San Antonio, and I was happy. I liked the feel of going into the building. I liked how wide the hallways and rooms were, and the activities available. The size of the room was good for my husband. I felt he was safe and secure, and the location was convenient. I felt that the sales director was very friendly and happy to meet with me on very little notice. She made several follow-up calls to see if I had any questions. When I was signing the papers, she explained everything very clearly to me. As far as the nurse on staff, she went to where my husband was, which was very convenient for me. I didn't have to bring him anywhere and evaluate where he was physically and mentally to know what additional care he might need. They were prepared for him when he arrived. Even people who had nothing to do with me, who were in another room, made the effort to make eye contact, whether I looked like I was wandering or if they could assist me. It wasn't like everyone just took care of the job. I felt that all the staff were very alert to what was going on. And that's in its own way, a very subtle way of telling me they are watching the patrons there, that they are not closed off, that they're well aware of what's going on around them in case anyone was in distress or needed help. It was very wide open. It was either a new building or had been remodeled. I think it's a little newer. But I liked how high the ceilings were. I didn't have that sense of a little motel in these small rooms. I liked the view compared to some other places I had been. I liked its openness, and it was brighter."

"I moved my Mother to Carol Ann's Home 8 months ago. My Mom was in a corporate facility that neglected her healthcare. I was very fortunate to have Carol Ann's Home reccomended to me. The Memory Care location has 18 beds. The place is painted so the walls and ceiling are painted to look like an outside scene. Each resident has a private room which includes a tv with cable. The staff is amazing! My Mom is finally getting the care she needs and deserves. The price is very reasonable and everything is included. They post pictures everyday so even though I live 2000 miles away in another country I finally feel like she is home. I cannot reccomend the place highly enough. If you are looking for a place that's family run and not a corperate place when the almighty dollar is the main concern this is the place for your loved one. The activities are amazing. This week there was a party for Halloween. Family is always encouraged to come and unlike the corporate places I had my parents at they do not charge you to attend. They say 3 is charm and after 2 corporate run facilities I feel like I have finally found a place that doesn't treat my Mom like a dollar sign, but a realy person who has value. When I moved my Mom here she got the last spot so you many have to be on a waiting list, but it's so worth it! "

"I toured Shavano Park Senior Living. The tour was very nice. The people were very friendly. Their rooms were smaller than I'm thinking of because we're coming from a three-bedroom home, but it was very nice, and the staff were very friendly. They had a courtyard. It's off of a pretty busy road, so there isn't any traffic noise."

"I toured Brookdale Medical Center Kingsley. All of the ones that I went to see are kind of equivalent to each other, but the staff was friendly at this one. They gave me some more resources for financial help. So, that was nice. They were having a meeting. I got to meet the whole staff and the director. It was good to be able to talk with everyone. It is an older building, but it was clean inside. They had a nice courtyard in the middle and some porches on the bottom floors, which I liked. It's a back porch."
